Marking his Kannada debut after a 27-year-long-career, Suniel Shetty says he has two South ventures

Surprisingly, Suniel Shetty has taken 27 years to mark his debut in the Kannada film industry, Unsurprisingly, the actor, adhering to his image of being an action hero, has picked a film based on boxing for his foray. In addition to this, Shetty has also signed a multi-lingual, fantasy-action-adventure-drama, titled Marakkar – The Lion Of Arabian Sea. The movie, based in the 15th century, revolves around sea pirates. It also apparently deals with the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV, a former Muslim naval chief.

Shetty tells mid-day that he is excited to work in a Kannada film, given that he hails from Karnataka. “Mumbai is my karmabhoomi, and Karnataka is my janmabhoomi. I am going back to my janmabhoomi after being in Bollywood for 27 years.”

A source reveals that the period film, to be directed by Priyadarshan, will also feature Nagarjuna and Mohanlal. “It will be in four languages [Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam] and will be mounted on a budget of Rs 150-crore, and will be along the lines of Pirates Of The Caribbean.”

Suniel Shetty says he is excited to collaborate with his co-actors, celebrated stars from the South Indian film industry. “I am working with my three favourites – Nag, Lal sir and Priyan. I have done many remakes of Lal sir’s films. I look up to Nag. Even today, he looks like he’s 26 [years old].”

Director Deb Medhekar, who adapted short story, hopeful that film Bioscopewala will get the nod to release in Afghanistan, the hometown of his protagonist

Even though Bollywood ventures are a big draw in Afghanistan – with many residents having picked up the language by bingeing on Hindi films aired on their TV sets – tense political climates have led to the closure of several theatres in the area. Inevitably, Hindi ventures are only infrequently aired in Afghanistan theatres. Writer-director Deb Medhekar, however, hopes his upcoming film, Bioscopewala, is among those that gets a nod for a cinematic outing.

Medhekar’s interest in the country stems from the plot of his film, based on Rabindranath Tagore’s classic tale, Kabuliwala. The short’s adaptation, featuring Danny Denzongpa and Geetanjali Thapa, revolves around a dry fruit seller from Kabul, who comes to India to sell his wares. He befriends a young girl, who reminds him of his daughter living in Kabul.

In his letter written to Dr Shaida Abdali, Afghanistan ambassador to India, Medhekar has urged for the facilitation of a screening in the country. While he is uncertain of getting permission for a theatrical release, he is hopeful his film will screen in schools, colleges or other public platforms.

The director tells mid-day, “While making the film, I hoped that, someday, it would screen in Afghanistan. The film traces the roots of the Bioscopewala back to his home country. I thought it would be befitting to screen it there. I’m keenly awaiting a positive response. It would give me satisfaction, [a belief] that, in the end, the Bioscopewala does find his way back home.” He says his letter states that Afghanistan has been portrayed in a positive light in the film.

In the past, several Hindi films have been shot in Afghanistan, including Feroz Khan’s Dharmatma (1975) – which also starred Denzongpa – Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi-starrer Khuda Gawah (1992) and Kabir Khan’s Kabul Express (2006) among others.

At the IIFA press conference in Delhi yesterday, she took her campaign — Beat Plastic Pollution — a step further as she found support from her friends in the film fraternity.

Speaking shortly after the event, Mirza said, “With India hosting the World Environment Day on June 5, we are mobilising a movement to beat plastic pollution. We want to create a mindset that outlast the celebrations. Public participation and civil awareness must continue to grow about the single-use plastic pollution.”

Dia Mirza lauded her colleagues for adding their might to the movement, which, she believes, is the need of the hour. “Having celebrities lend their voice to the movement will help us tremendously in expanding the reach of the cause.

It will help in influencing and inspiring millions of followers that these stars have. The enthusiasm that Ranbir, Shahid, Kartik and Karan showed in understanding the pertinence of the campaign, is exciting.”

Currently, Angad and Neha are enjoying marital bliss and were recently spotted at the airport after they returned from the United States, where they had reportedly gone for their honeymoon. And even after a week, stories about them are doing the rounds. However, the latest news about the couple that is getting a lot of attention from fans, is the tale behind their respective wedding rings.

Not many know the story of Neha Dhupia and Angad’s wedding ring. A source close to the couple reveals that the ring has been passed from generations.

“This is a family legacy that is now passed on to Neha and Angad Bedi. His parents have been married for the past 40 years and now they want to see the happiness and togetherness forever for the newly-weds. The ring signifies those sentiments,” added the source in a statement.

On the work front, Neha was last seen on the big screen in Tumhari Sulu, and the actress is also seen as a gang leader on MTV Roadies Xtreme. As for Angad, the actor was last seen in Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai and will be next seen in Soorma.

Taking a breather out of a “roller coaster ride” that she has had at the French Riviera over the last five days, Das says that after the last-minute running around before she arrived for the festival, the “carnival-like energy” lifted her spirits. Das says the premiere garnered a four-minute standing ovation, and strangers hugged her while sobbing.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actor Karan Patel tied the knot with television actress Ankita Bhargava in 2015 and is now expecting a beautiful addition to their family. The couple will soon be proud parents to their first baby. While there were several reports of Ankita’s pregnancy, the actor took to his Instagram account to confirm the news.

Karan Patel shared the happy news in the most creative way possible. The television star did it in the way of a Bolly film poster! The poster shared by Karan, read, “Yeh Diwali Hogi Babywali. Produced by Patels in association with the Bhargavas, directed by Almighty (sic).” He is also seen carrying a bunch of shopping bags around, which perfectly describes the phases a would-be-mother goes through. Cravings, mood swings, nap time, diapers, nanny – these are the things written on each of the shopping bags. Isn’t it creative?

The seductive and sensuous actress, Sunny Leone creates a storm on social media with her stunning pictures. The actress has now posted a few photos, which seemingly is a photoshoot for one of the lingerie brands. Dressed in a bikini, Sunny flaunts her curvaceous body.

Sunny Leone captioned one of her photos as, “Here’s to not holding back and just letting it go.” The artistic photo has got everyone appreciating her beauty. The comment section of the photo kept flooding with positive comments. Even, television actor Priyank Sharma couldn’t resist his opinion about the photo and complimented her. He wrote, “Ok that’s hot (sic).”

After posting these sassy pictures, Sunny posted an image with husband Daniel Weber. The couple’s image was from the Wankhede Stadium, watching T20 match.

On the professional front, Sunny will be seen doing a music video with Canadian producer and DJ of Indian descent, UpsideDown. He will be releasing his first solo single titled Got It All featuring fellow Canadian and singer-songwriter, The PropheC. The duo join forces for the first time, and they’ve roped in Bollywood actress Sunny Leone for the music video.

Apart from working in films, and being an entrepreneur, the actress is also shooting her biopic. Talking about which, a source had informed mid-day, “The first season, which consists of six episodes, traces Sunny Leone’s childhood and teenage years. The second part will highlight her career in the US and may even include her marriage to Daniel Weber. There is a possibility that Daniel will make a cameo in the series.” The makers, we hear, are hoping to release the second instalment later this year.”

Leone, who recently turned mother to twin boys Asher and Noah through surrogacy, says that the audience curiosity around her prompted the idea of the biopic. “A lot of people out there are curious to know who I am, where I have come from and what motivated the decisions I’ve made in my life. I want them to watch the show to know the real me, instead of harbouring the perception that they have created in their minds. I can’t reveal much about the second season as we have just started shooting,” says the actor, who burst on the Indian entertainment scene with Bigg Boss in 2011 and went on to pursue a career in Bollywood. While a child actor has been roped to essay the young Leone, the actor will be seen playing herself for a major part of the narrative. Leone admits that reliving her journey, albeit for the cameras, has not been easy.

“Since my parents passed away many years ago, we brought in two actors to play them. It has been particularly difficult to shoot the scenes with them. I thought I would be fine, but when we started rolling, I realised I was not emotionally prepared. No one would be fine reacting to emotional and traumatic moments. Going through them once again was a challenge. There were times when I broke down.”

After secretly tying the knot with longtime girlfriend Sonia Kapoor last week, Himesh Reshammiya headed off for their honeymoon to Dubai. The couple has already returned from their honeymoon destination but looks like they are still in the vacation zone. Himesh took to his Instagram account to share a few pictures from their honeymoon.

In one of the pictures shared by Himesh Reshammiya, the couple is seen completely soaked into each other’s eyes, as they sit by the pool. The musician-actor captioned the picture as, “Cheers to love.”

While making his wedding news official, the Tera Suroor singer said that he was excited to embark on this new journey. Himesh had mentioned, “I am really happy that Sonia and me have started this new journey, she is a lovely girl and I have loved her unconditionally and the same is with her”.

Talking about this new journey, his lovely bride Sonia Kapoor, who was dressed in a pink lehenga for her wedding, gushed, “Himesh is a wonderful human being and my soul mate. He means the world to me and I am very happy to start this beautiful journey with him.”

Himesh will be announcing two new films as an actor. His wife Sonia will not be taking up any acting offers now as she wishes to focus on family.

This is Himesh’s second marriage with television actress Sonia Kapoor. He was earlier married to Komal, and they have a son together named Swaym. The couple parted ways after ten years of their marriage and were officially granted divorce on June 7, 2017.
