Filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts wants to create a new Marvel movie that does not feature superheroes. The Kong: Skull Island filmmaker has ideas for an “absurdist” sci-fi entertainer that sounds far from the current Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, which includes the latest movie Avengers: Infinity War, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“I want to direct a Marvel movie that features no superheroes. It would be an absurdist ‘dramedy’ that follows a group of random humans who deal with that magic and aliens exist,” Vogt-Roberts tweeted.

Rumours of Irrfan Khan consulting Ayurveda doctor Vaidya Balendu Prakash, who also treated Steve Jobs, has been rubbished by the actor’s spokesperson

Irrfan Khan
Irrfan Khan

Actor Irrfan Khan, who is suffering from a neuroedocrine tumour, is not undergoing any Ayurvedic treatment, his spokesperson said today. Debunking the reports that Irrfan is consulting Ayurveda doctor Vaidya Balendu Prakash, who also treated Steve Jobs, the spokesperson said the actor once spoke to the doctor about his health but there have been no further “conversation or consultation”.

“As suggested by recent news reports, Mr Khan is not consulting with Vaidya Balendu Prakash. He at one point had contacted him but other than one phone call there has been no conversation or consultation whatsoever. It is unacceptable to be using someone’s illness for your own publicity and personal gain. Like Irrfan Khan’s previous statements, we all need to respect the space asked for and wait for him or his wife’s statement for any further update,” Irrfan’s spokesperson said in a statement.

The 51-year-old actor had recently said that he will be travelling abroad for the treatment.

Salman Khan
Salman Khan

While Race has been a successful franchise, producer Ramesh Taurani is well-aware that he has got a trump card in Salman Khan who has joined the cast of the third instalment.

Khan, who is also one of the co-producers of Race 3 that also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol among others, is making the most of the star power that he brings to the action thriller – rumours are rife that the makers are eyeing a whopping Rs 150 crore for the film’s satellite rights.

A source reveals, “Salman Khan‘s last outing Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) had earned around Rs 70 crore from the satellite rights, which was said to be the highest price paid for a Bollywood film. With the actor joining the cast of Race 3, Taurani and he are looking at doubling the figure. After a few talks, the duo has decided that they will offer the airing rights at Rs 150 crore.”

The insider adds that a leading channel has already offered Rs 75 crore, but the producers are in no mood to reduce the price. “Salman has also decided to take a percentage of the film’s profit and the earnings from the satellite rights.” When contacted, Taurani said, “I am not aware [of this] and I would not like to talk about it.”

Mithoon talks about composing music for the Prabhudheva-starrer Mercury

Mithoon Sharma
Mithoon Sharma

Mithoon says composing music for the Prabhudheva-starrer “Mercury”, a silent thriller, was an adventurous process for him. “When the film came to me and I sat with the director (Karthik Subbaraj), I realised the challenge I was getting into. Creating music for ‘Mercury’ was an adventurous process for me. I had to recreate music which is metaphorically reflective of the film’s narrative, but not the film. It was pretty interesting,” Mithoon told IANS.

“He wanted me to create a nine-minute piece where the music with a song…that will incorporate the deeper aspect of the narrative and the dance of the great Prabhudheva,” added the “Tum hi ho” composer. The film also features actor Sananth Reddy.

“I requested our lyricist Sayeed Quadri to retain the word ‘mercury’ in the song and play around it. The word ‘mercury’ has to do with dynamism as the song has ups and downs, musically. In the nine-minute piece, there is a part that goes into complete silence for a moment and raises up with zombie dance… of course by Prabhudheva. So yes, it is filled with musical adventure,” said Mithoon.

The film will release on April 13.

Rani Mukerji says that the audiences have celebrated working mothers and that she will be forever thankful to them

Rani Mukerji

Rani Mukerji is overwhelmed with the response she has got for her comeback film “Hichki” and says that the kind of love audiences have showered on the movie proves that good cinema and performance is the only thing that matters and not marital status or parenthood. Hichki marks Rani’s comeback to acting after a gap of four years. The film raked in Rs 3.30 crore on day one, a statement said.

Ecstatic over the response, Rani said, “All my life, I have tried to entertain, tried to spread love and happiness to my fans and audiences through my films. Their happiness made me happy, motivated me. Yesterday, I felt the same emotions that I had faced when my first film released. I was nervous. I was jittery. My first love is acting. Nothing gives me as much joy than being on the set of my film. I chose marriage when I wanted to.”

The actress, who has a daughter Adira, 2, says she chose motherhood and “I chose to prioritise these for four years before I again chose to return to my passion wanting to feel the rush of challenging myself with a truly remarkable role.”

On the first day of the film’s release, Rani felt like it was a “do or die test”.

“I did draw courage from the success stories of the outstanding artists who decided to settle down and then returned with great comebacks but deep down I was nervous that if I fail, I would be forever succumbing to the archaic stereotypes to the same hichkis that have been prevalent for so many years” she said.

“With the incredible love that audiences have showered on ‘Hichki’ and on me, they have proven that for them good cinema and good performance is the only thing that matters – not marital status, not parenthood,” added an emotional Rani.

The actress, 40, says that the audiences have celebrated working mothers and that she will be forever thankful to them. In “Hichki”, Rani plays the character of Naina Mathur who suffers from Tourette syndrome that forces an individual to make involuntary repetitive movements or sounds.

The Siddharth P. Malhotra directorial focuses on turning disadvantages into opportunities and staring down at challenges that life throws at one and ultimately winning over them. “This box office validation gives me incredible confidence to continue my journey as a working mother who can aim to balance her professional and personal life to a T,” Rani concluded.

Deepika was in New Delhi along with her mother and younger sister to launch a report on Public Perception Towards Mental Health in India by her foundation The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF)

Deepika Padukone

As multiple Bollywood films are celebrating how weaknesses can be turned into strengths, leading actress Deepika Padukone says it is important for celebrities to use their place of influence and power to bring about change in society. “I think it is extremely important for those who are in positions of influence or power to bring about social change. It is extremely important for them to speak up about whatever issue it might be,” Deepika told IANS in an interview.

Of late, film actors and filmmakers are attempting storylines which have a strong underlying message that can bring change in society. The latest example is Rani Mukerji’s “Hichki”, which talks about how a woman with Tourette Syndrome, a neuropsychiatric disorder, makes it her strength and becomes a teacher.

Deepika Padukone, one of Bollywood’s top-earning actresses, believes people can see if you do not have genuine connect or if it is not authentic. “For many years, people always said, ‘You know you are successful, you should do work in social sectors as well or associate with an NGO’. There were so many options (for me), but I didn’t feel like I was being honest to them.

“It didn’t come naturally to me until I came across mental health, also because of my personal experience,” said the actress, who had earlier opened up about her battle with depression. She feels speaking up for a cause has to be an “organic” process. “I don’t think there is any fixed time as to when one should do it. I think you should do it when you feel it is right.”

Deepika was in New Delhi along with her mother and younger sister to launch a report on Public Perception Towards Mental Health in India by her foundation The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF), which aims to reduce the stigma around mental health. The report’s findings indicate that a majority of people feel that mental illness is still considered a severe disorder like schizophrenia and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. But are celebrities not more prone to depression and stress, especially when they are constantly under the scanner, more so with the emergence of social media?

“No. I think I have understood the correlation between consumption of social media and when it helps. I always believed that whatever you consume, you consume in moderation. If you consume too much, it could have various sorts of impact, not just on your mental health but physical health too. I know people who are up at social media in the wee hours and probably letting it eat up their sleep time. As long as anything that you consume, whether it is social media or otherwise, is done in moderation, and you are aware about your social health, I think you are on the right path,” said the 32-year-old.

At the end of the day, the only thing that matters to her is “peace of mind”. Deepika said she wants to see India as the happiest nation in the world. “My vision for the Foundation is that we become the happiest country in the world. I see Bhutan having their happiness minister, and even some of the Scandinavian countries have the highest rate of mental happiness and I want India to be there, sooner or later,” she signed off.
