The Brits are known for many things around the world. But today, the focus is only going to be on the way they celebrate weddings. While yes, it is the Prince of England getting married, this event is a very rare occasion, there’s no reason to believe all Brits don’t get married like this. We got to see a Prince of England get married in 2011 and we’re getting round two just 7 years later. Surely we won’t get anymore in our lifetime so let’s make the most of this one. Here are 9 pictures which justify why this is the most watched wedding in the world:

It’s not often George Clooney makes a public appearance. He’s more than happy keeping his handsomeness to himself (and sharing some with his wife perhaps). But, George and Amal didn’t just show up for the Royal Wedding, they gave us all hope. Hope that our looks can improve as we grow older.

David Beckham has worn many suits in his life. He’s also considered one of the most stylish Brits in the world. Hell, he may just be the best-dressed man in the world. It’s hard when you’re the best-dressed everywhere you go. Well, at least he’s trying not to steal the show this time round. It’s not easy, though!

Okay, the Prince of England is getting married. They call him the most eligible bachelor in England. There’s good reason too. Can you imagine what your life would be like if you were the Prince of England? Well, he may be used to it by now but his wife-to-be certainly isn’t. Here’s the man Meghan Markle is marrying. Don’t tell us there aren’t a million girls who would kill to take Meghan’s place.

It makes sense that, after the groom, we’d move on to the bride. What a beautiful bride Meghan is. We saw her get married on ‘Suits’ but who would have thought we’d be seeing her getting married in real life just a few years later? Yes, celebrities get married all the time. But, is the whole world watching when they do?

If you follow ‘Suits’ you’d know that Meghan Markle is romantically involved with Patrick J. Adams in the show. Although they’ve both left the show recently (isn’t it obvious, now that she’s Royalty), they are still in touch. How do we know? The entire cast was invited for the wedding. Boy did they show up!

Tom Hardy is known to be fully invested in any movie he is acting in. He has gone through numerous physical changes over the years for a role. During this time, he rarely makes any public appearances. But, even Hardy couldn’t risk skipping the Royal Wedding. You wouldn’t want to piss off your Queen, after all.

There’s at least one grumpy old man at every wedding. But, when it’s a Royal Wedding, even the grumpy old man is more popular than all of us combined. Sir Elton John, in the kind of glasses that only he could pull off. For your viewing pleasure.

On to a woman who’s hard to ignore. She’s an international superstar. She’s our very own, Priyanka Chopra. Best friend of the bride? One of the best friends for sure. She’s Bollywood Royalty for sure.

We’re going to end with a bang. It’s not often we talk about the Queen of England at MensXP. But, when her grandson is getting married, she deserves a mention too. She’s 92-years-old. Can you believe that? Even at that age, she chooses one of the most outrageous colours for a Royal Wedding. Then again, can anyone really say anything to the Queen?

In an exclusive interaction with mid-day online, actor Sumeet Vyas, better known for the web show Permanent Roommates, speaks about his upcoming films High Jack and Veere Di Wedding

Sumeet Vyas
Sumeet Vyas

No more only the poster boys of web series, actor Sumeet Vyas has carved a path in mainstream Bollywood films. After giving us some exceptional performances in films like English Vinglish, Parched, Ribbon, amongst others, his upcoming films, High Jack and Veere Di Wedding are geared to hit the 70 mm. Talking about films and his career graph, the actor gets candid with mid-day online in an exclusive interview.

Firstly, tell us about your film, High Jack, it’s termed as a stoner comedy but not everyone would understand what a stoner is?
Here, Highjack is a very trippy film… it’s in my head, a situational comedy, in Akarsh Khurana’s (director) head a thriller, in the editor’s head, an action film and in Nucleya’s head a musical. This freedom of expression is called a stoner comedy.

What attracted you to the film?
It’s the script and is one of the funniest scripts I’ve read in a while. I remember laughing like a crazy person alone in my room while reading it… this doesn’t happen very often. Also the team I was going to work with. Akarsh is like an elder brother to me… Kumud Mishra is a legend on and off the camera. Phantom Films, I was very keen on collaborating with. So yes, this film was the most fun I’ve had at work so far.

Could you please tell us about your character in the film?
My character’s name is Rakesh. He’s a struggling Disc Jockey (DJ), trying to establish himself and find that one big gig, which will change his life. Personally, he’s struggling on the financial front. In desperation, he agrees to do something stupid to get out of this crisis and lands up on a plane that gets high jacked by a bunch of amateurs. So, basically, he’s a mess, a bonafide loser, who resurrects himself in the worst possible situation ever.

Since the film’s backdrop is that of a plane and the funny incidents that take place, are there any real-life incidents wherein, you’ve found something really hilarious on your flight?
Oh yeah, all the time! The first time I travelled business class I couldn’t believe the niceness of the air hostesses, and all through the flight I was nervous they’re going to yell at me and send back to economy (class) where my legs don’t fit. Also, it’s on a flight I realised that I snore sometimes when I’m exhausted because once I woke up and found everyone staring at me. The air hostess was sweet enough to tell me that my snores have destroyed the other flyers’ business class experience.

A piece of advice… if you’re really tired, “Don’t drink and fly.”

Are you happy with the way your career is taking off?
I’m happy that people are appreciating my work. The fact that filmmakers and producers are showing trust in me and are willing to invest in my talent… I must be doing something right. Having said that, I’ll any day swap my career with Ranveer Singh.

After working for Television, web shows, and films, which is the medium that you enjoy doing the most?
See, deep down I want to be the highest paid actor for a certain period at least. So, any medium that manages to do that is the medium I love.

Tell us something about Veere Di Wedding, working with Kareena Kapoor Khan and others?
Veere Di wedding is a fantastic ensemble film. It’s been an honour to work with Shashank Ghosh (film’s director). I’ve always admired his work. Also, Kareena Kapoor is one of the most gifted actors we have in our country. Everyone knows it, I observed it first hand, and when you praise someone like her, you’re stating the obvious.

Also, tell us about your future projects?
Future is very bright. There’s Tripling Season 2 that we’re working on, and some exceptional scripts that are floating in the atmosphere will find my address.

Mid-day online gets in touch with the versatile Vinay Pathak to speak about his film, Khajoor Pe Atke

Vinay Pathak

Vinay Pathak’s witty and humble nature might put anyone at ease. His films are a classic treat, as the actor admits it’s all about story-telling. The Bheja Fry star’s method acting is a delight to watch. While he has always been entertaining the audience with several mad-cap satires, Pathak, once again is all set to mesmerise the audience with a phenomenal subject – a tongue-in-cheek comedy, Khajoor Pe Atke. In an exclusive interview with mid-day online, Vinay Pathak explains the subject of this film and why every middle-class family will relate to it.

Excerpts from the interview:

We sure know the meaning of the idiom, Khajoor pe Atke, but we would like you to make us explain the context of it in terms of this film?
It’s a fantastic film. Khajoor Pe Atke is a Hindi idiom as we all know. So, the film is about getting out of a problem just to fall into another trouble. Lots of time what happens is that you think you’re troubles are over, and then you realise that a bigger trouble is awaiting you. So, that’s what it means. The reason the film has a title like this because the plot is such. It is very realistic. It’s not deliberately given a comic plot. In fact, it’s a very serious and tragic one. There are three brothers, and I am playing the younger one. Manoj Pahwa is playing the elder brother, and the other brother is in the ICU. He is comatose and it’s the family tragedy that occurs. So, the film starts with it, and the brother, who is in the ICU lives in Bombay, and the other two brothers live in different cities.

Why do you think one should watch this film? In what way will it strike a chord with the audience?
In the wake of such a tragedy, the family gets together, and what happens in a middle-class family is what the film is all about. For instance, overnight you have to leave with all the family members, buy a flight ticket, there are small children, what should we do? How many leaves should we apply for in the school? So, all these things from the external point of view are very comic and funny, but for people who are stuck in it, these things aren’t funny at all. If somebody has to spend 50-40k overnight just for a flight ticket, it’s a huge casualty. But, middle-class problems, families are about all these casualties. It’s a very realistic film and families go through such extreme realistic situations every other day. That’s why I feel the connection with the audience is stronger, even in a comedy like this.

Didn’t you’ll have to be very cautious with the subject?
Of course, we had to. The good thing about this is they (makers of the film) engulfed the satire in a screenplay, in a dialogue format. The comic moments are situational. We are not doing a deliberate comedy. It comes out naturally because it’s a well-written, well-researched script. Something like this has happened in director Harsh Chhaya’s own life. So, his anecdotes and scenes have come from there.

Have you ever been stuck in such a situation?
There are so many, all our lives – schools, colleges. I remember, when I was in school, I wasn’t really good in Mathematics. So, before the board exams, my father suggested I go for tuitions. It was a headache for me because I did not enjoy maths. I started going every day for three hours and told my father that I have learned enough and I don’t think that I need tuitions anymore. My father spoke to the teacher and next evening, the teacher comes and tells me, now that you are ready with Maths, let’s get to chemistry because your father also told me and even I found out that your chemistry is worse than your maths. And then I had to take chemistry tuitions. So, this was one of those moments, ‘Aasmaan se gire, khajoor pe atke.’

What kind of films do you get attracted to because we see you in fewer films?
I’m very attracted to and excited about story-telling films because if it’s not driven by the story or the plot, I somehow lose interest. I’m not saying that I don’t like song and dance films, but only to watch them. When it comes to me, I don’t think I have the talent to do song and dance film, and carry it off and be as convincing as many fantastic actors are. My focus is very simple and straight-forward. I look for a story, screenplay and dialogue-laden wonderful scripts, which I still get very excited to do.

What are your upcoming projects?
Apart from Khajoor Pe Atke, there are films, which I’m extremely excited about. One is a mad-cap political satire with director Anubhav Sinha. We’ve just finished shooting for it. I am very happy with the way the film has shaped up, and can’t wait for it to release. There’s another film called Chintu Ka Birthday.

What are your expectations from High Jack?
The trailer itself has crossed a few million views already. The response has been very generous, feverish and favourable, very positive. That’s why we are very excited about this film and we are running around to promote it.

People address Hrithik Roshan as a ‘Greek God’, the ‘World’s Most Handsome Actor’ and the hottest actor in Bollywood. Well, we can’t argue with anyone here, because this man has earned all these titles.

However, for his upcoming movie ‘Super 30’, he let go of all that and underwent an insane transformation to look like Anand Kumar. And given the amount of dedication he has shown and hard work he is putting in for the movie, it looks like this can be his best performance so far.

Hrithik Roshan Looks Unrecognizable In The Latest Pictures From 'Super 30'Instagram

From turning into a papad seller to reportedly taking public transports, Hrithik Roshan has left no stone unturned for this ambitious project and his first biopic. His transformation pictures are already taking the internet by storm and the following pictures only stir it more.

Hrithik Roshan was shooting on the sets of ‘Super 30’ with his co-star Veerendra Saxena, and we can bet most people would have glanced twice or thrice to confirm whether it was Hrithik standing next to him or not. This is the picture we’re talking about.

We are highly impressed with this insane transformation, but at the same time can’t help but think that he actually looks like one of our neighborhood uncles who will always stop you while you are playing, just to ask you about your exams and whether you’re studying hard or not.

Hrithik will play Anand Kumar, the man behind Super 30, a programme that coaches 30 deserving students from the economically backward or weaker sections to crack IIT-JEE, the entrance exam for the Indian Institutes of Technology. The movie is being directed by Vikas Bahl and is releasing on January 25, 2019.

There is no smoke without a fire, but in case of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, there is a massive firework happening right under everyone’s noses. Well, we are glad for all those understood what we are trying to say, and for those who didn’t, we are here to help!

The rumor of the two dating has been creating a buzz for a while, and things did become a little more evident when we spotted the two missing from Sonam Kapoor’s mehendi function and attending the ‘Raazi’ screening together instead.

Later, the two arrived together for Sonam and Anand Ahuja’s reception and the whole attention shifted from the newly married to the next potential couple in B-town. Yeah, we’ve got to admit the two do make a lovely pair.

But things might get complicated considering the fact that Alia and Katrina Kaif are BFF’s. For people who don’t belong from planet Earth, Ranbir is Katrina’s ex and if the rumours of Alia and him dating are true, things might not end well between the besties.

At present the duo is working together for Karan Johar’s production film ‘Brahmastra’ and they are spending a lot of time together. During ‘Raazi’ promotions, Alia openly admitted how Ranbir has always been her biggest crush and how she admires him as an actor and a person.

And now joining the equation is Ranbir, who for the first time admitted to having a crush on Alia too.

It all happened at the IIFA press conference when Ranbir was told how it was dream come true for Alia to work with her crush. He instantly smiled and said, “Well, I have a boy crush on her now.”

And this obviously managed to get an “aww” from Karan Johar, who thoroughly enjoyed this conversation.

For a while now, Alia & Ranbir have been constantly flaunting their love for each other publicly and we hope this doesn’t create a rift between the two divas. The last thing we would want is a guy being a reason for the downfall of their friendship.

Taking about Alia’s performance in Raazi, he said, “I watched the film one week before its release and it blew my mind. It’s one of the greatest films ever made in Indian cinema.”

Will they make their alleged relationship become official or not, is a discussion for another time.

Coming to Karan Johar, when he was asked about what he learned from the IFFA last year (of course, every one of us remembers the whole Nepotism drama), he simply said, “To keep my mouth shut and open it only when the teleprompter comes out and not give my vishesh tippani on anything on the stage.” Good going Mr.Johar.

IIFA is all set to take place this year in Bangkok and we are pretty excited. The 19th IFFA will have some pretty amazing performances by Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt. Even Kartik Aaryan will be seen making his stage debut in the famous awards night this year.

It’s always great to see Indian directors moving away from the clichéd topics, and coming up with content that will be loved by the millennial audience. It is refreshing to watch a film that’s not from a dreamland where everything is about ‘happy endings’, but more realistic and veristic.

Following that trend, Netflix has released the trailer of its second Indian film after ‘Love Per Square Feet’, ‘Lust Stories’ that’s quite intriguing.

Netflix's 'Lust Stories' Trailer Is A Must-Watch© Netflix

‘Lust Stories’ is an anthology of four short films by famous Indian directors Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee. The film weaves in four different stories with one common point, which brings modern relationships to life from a woman’s perspective.

This becomes the second film after ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ that portrays what love, lust, and betrayal is like from a female point of view. Call it a need of the hour or need of modern times, it’s interesting how these topics are finally being given importance.

Starring Radhika Apte, Manisha Koirala, Bhumi Pednekar, Neha Dhupia, Kiara Advani, Vicky Kaushal, Sanjay Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat, Akash Thosar and Neil Bhoopalam in vital roles, every character in the film leaves an imprint in your mind with their sheer acting skills.

The first part shows a house help (Bhumi Pednekar) falling in love with the owner (Neil Bhoopalam). The second one highlights the issue of sexual dissatisfaction between a newly married couple Vicky Kaushal and Kiara Advani, a topic that’s very much neglected in our country.

We also see Neha Dhupia making a small appearance, though nothing much can be said about her role yet. Sanjay Kapoor, Manisha Koirala and Jaideep Ahlawat star in the third part which revolves around a marriage, its complications, and an extramarital affair. The final film, featuring Radhika Apte and Akash Thosar is about an unconventional modern relationship.

According to Netflix, ” ‘Lust Stories’ is a contemporary take on real-life relationships through the lens of four women and their desires. The anthology film is a take on love, sex and everything in between!”

From raw emotions, unsaid words to deprived needs and wants, the tale brings up relationship issues that we often fail to address or shut ourselves out from discussing. The trailer boldly yet beautiful talks about sex and desire without making it sound crass.

The trailer leaves you pondering and makes you question when was the last time you actually cared about your partner’s sexual satisfaction? Just give it a thought!

Ranveer Singh was the only reason I made up my mind to watch ‘Deadpool 2’ in Hindi. The idea of him becoming the voice of Wade Wilson aka Deadpool, the witty af anti-superhero was enough to make me excited. After all, which Bollywood lover, and more importantly, a Ranveer fan would miss this opportunity?

I don’t regret the decision, but it wasn’t my smartest one either. Going to watch Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool has its own magnetism. Needless to say, the punches that the Merch with a Mouth comes up with are hysterical. The first installment entertained us in the most unexpected ways, so obviously, hopes are high for the second movie as well.

Ranveer Singh As Wade Wilson In The Hindi Version Of 'Deadpool 2' Is A Disaster

Roping in Ranveer for the Hindi version did sound like a smart move, after all, he has all the characteristics required to voice Deadpool, but somewhere it falls flat. The Padmaavat actor sure gave it his all in voicing Wade Wilson, but being Deadpool is no walk in the park.

I wish Mayank Jain, the writer of the Hindi dialogues, had realised the same which then would have made a hell lot of a difference to the movie. But then again, maybe the translation is to be blamed for it.

I can’t deny the fact that it’s amazing to see Ranveer showcase Wade’s trademark traits, in the most natural manner imaginable. He curses like a boss and can seamlessly jump from Marathi to Punjabi accents giving it a desi touch. But turns out, that’s exactly what’s wrong with the Hindi script.

‪Astonishing how effectively I’ve managed to out-crass my Canadian counterpart @vancityreynolds. Never realised how fulfilling & rewarding foul Hindi language can be! #Deadpool2Hindi @FoxStarIndia Trailer link in bio.

A post shared by Ranveer Singh (@ranveersingh) on May 6, 2018 at 11:31pm PDT

I love the idea of a desi Deadpool, I really do! But when a movie is dubbed, we often tend to forget that in the process, it loses its essence and enticement. Despite Ranveer taking charge, you feel radically disappointed. There comes a point when you feel like weeping, because this isn’t how Deadpool would ever speak (something only a true fan will understand). Maybe I just expected a lot from Ranveer because of the standards he has set for himself.

‘Deadpool 2’ sure is entertaining, but in Hindi, it just goes overboard with the quirks and punches, making me wish it wasn’t dubbed in the first place. TBH, now that I have watched the movie, it feels like the first cut Hindi trailer was a lot better than the second one, where the entire cast was changed.

Ranveer Singh As Wade Wilson In The Hindi Version Of 'Deadpool 2' Is A Disaster© Twitter

Ranveer is an exceptional and versatile actor, who can entertain you in the truest sense, but this wasn’t just meant for him. As a human, you tend to make an error and this is just one of those choices. The movie is packed with pop-culture references that Bollywood lovers can easily connect with, but it gets taxing after a while. I am all for Hindi cinema but not at the cost of boredom.

There is so much going in the film that I feel I will have to watch it again in English to get the real ‘Deadpool’ vibe. You don’t want to watch a Deadpool who tries to sound cool but fails terribly at it. Deadpool is an incredible and unique character and if you can’t justify his humour and persona, you have no right to destroy it as well (Bet hundreds of followers will agree with this).

Ranveer Singh As Wade Wilson In The Hindi Version Of 'Deadpool 2' Is A Disaster

For those who are kind of clueless about the character, Deadpool is the tale of a former Special Forces operative who turns into a mercenary. He was first seen in a cameo in ‘X-Men Origin: Wolverine’ in 2009.

Despite his torturous transformation, he still managed to have his wit and humor intact. He has a punch line for almost everything no matter who is saying and has deadly combat skills making him one of the most popular anti-superheroes of all time.

Possible Spoilers Ahead.

At the beginning of the film, Deadpool is seen trying to end his life, but the entry of a mutant kid gives him new purpose. Then comes the antagonist, Cable – a time traveller (Josh Brolin) who wants to kill the child.

Interestingly, Josh also played the mighty Thanos in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. That’s why we even see Deadpool referring to him as Thanos in the movie and believe me, that scene is a must watch! However, my favourite scene for sure is that of Deadpool holding open auditions for people to join his X-Force team.

Ranveer Singh As Wade Wilson In The Hindi Version Of 'Deadpool 2' Is A Disaster

‘Deadpool 2’ is densely displayed and amazing in every frame. Ryan Reynolds, who plays both Wade Wilson and Deadpool, can easily be seen switching his emotions. At one point he is emotional, loving and sincere and the next second, he is harsh, mean and rude. It’s like watching two different people. Pulling off such parallel characters is a tough job indeed, and the Hindi version doesn’t let you see that. In fact, at times you even begin to doubt if it indeed is Ranveer’s voice that you are hearing? There is something about his voice that turns you off.

Famous YouTuber Bhuvan Bham pulls off Dopinder- a Gujarati driver’s character efficiently. Absolutely love it when he refers to Deadpool as ‘Pool Bhai’.

However, most of the dialogues are connected to Bollywood that gets repetitive after a while. It’s sad to see how the nature and substance of the script gets lost in literal translation. Just imagine Deadpool slicing someone’s hand off and saying, ‘ab tujhe samjh aayega ki thakur ka dard kya hai’ or him saying, ‘hum sabki g***d chir dene wali team banayenge’.

But I have to give him points for singing ‘mera jiwan kora kaagaz kora hi rah gaya’, that did manage to leave everyone in splits.

Ranveer Singh As Wade Wilson In The Hindi Version Of 'Deadpool 2' Is A Disaster

The action sequences and the story flow is great and even the horrendous translation can’t take that away from the movie. ‘Deadpool 2’ is fun but nothing out of the box. It’s quite similar to the first instalment, as a matter of fact. There are liberal doses of violence and gore, just like the first movie, so be prepared for that.
