The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has voiced its support to the filmmaking team behind the Oscar-nominated documentary “Last Men in Aleppo” that will not be able to attend the awards ceremony due to travel restrictions

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has voiced its support to the filmmaking team behind the Oscar-nominated documentary “Last Men in Aleppo” that will not be able to attend the awards ceremony due to travel restrictions. “As supporters of filmmakers – and the human rights of all people – around the globe, we stand in solidarity with director Feras Fayyad as well as the film’s producer Kareem Abeed,” the Academy said in a statement to hollywoodreporter.com on Tuesday.

Abeed, who currently resides in Turkey, will not be able to come to the US after being denied a travel visa due to restrictions placed on eight predominantly Muslim countries by the Trump administration. Along with the filmmaker, the documents’ subject, White Helmets founding member Mahmoud Al-Hattar, will also not be able to attend the Oscars.

“Last Men in Aleppo”, which documents those on the frontlines of the Syrian civil war, will be vying for the Best Documentary honour at the March 4 ceremony to be held here.

Oscar-winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, who was nominated in the Best Foreign-Language Film for “The Salesman”, did not attend last year’s Academy Awards to protest US President Donald Trump’s policy. Khaled Khateeb, the Syrian cinematographer behind last year’s documentary short Oscar nominee “The White Helmets”, was barred from entering the country. Both Farhadi and Khateeb’s films went on to win in their respective categories.

Priyanka Chopra doesn’t need any introductions. She’s one of the most famous people not just in our country, but she’s also managed to make a huge fan base all over the world.

A post shared by Priyanka Chopra (@priyankachopra) on Feb 3, 2018 at 1:03pm PST

Yes, we love her and yes, she still does star in Bollywood movies, but don’t you think we’re slowly losing her to Hollywood? It’s a huge loss for our own film industry because PeeCee is an incredible actor and one of the biggest stars in the country.

will miss you ocean.. #islandgirl 🧜?♀🌊☀🌗

But, while she was holidaying it up last weekend, the internet was up at work and found the perfect doppelganger of her, and even we can’t deny that the resemblance is way too real. Let’s compare, here’s Priyanka.

And, now meet Megan Milan.

Look at them, they’re practically identical!

(And, if you disagree, sorry to break it to you, but you’re racist.)

So, I have a great idea. Since she’s spending so much time in USA starring in her hit show and doing blockbuster movies, we should get Megan, who’s a model, here to India. The internet gave us a big gift by finding Megan, but now it’s all up to Bollywood to make the most of it.

Till then, let’s appreciate the internet and the people who found her.

And, well, we don’t have to say much about this joke, but Megan herself retweeted it.

If Priyanka Chopra’s recent fashion stints have taught us anything, it is that no matter how many great fashion choices you make in life, controversies and memes will always overshadow them.

She wore a kickass ubercool Ralph Lauren beige trench-coat gown, but all that people could see was a cup of ‘masala chai’.

She met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Germany, and Twitter ended up having a gala time bae-watching the two and dolling out their opinion like fashion critics for showing off her legs.

And things are no different for her even now, as she recently found herself being trolled for her photograph in Assam tourism calendar.

It’s very rare for a celebrity to come under the radar of critics for a brand they are the ambassadors for. But, for Hollywood’s resident bae Priyanka Chopra, that ‘rare’ thing happens more often than anything else in her life. Honestly, as the brand ambassador, she seems to have gained more controversies than any brownie points for the state.

After finding herself in the controversy for being the brand ambassador of Nirav Modi’s jewellery brand, Priyanka Chopra was recently targeted on social media for her choice of clothes for the calendar of Assam Tourism. Her frock did not go down too well with people, as they think it wasn’t ‘sober enough’. In fact, the opposition Congress leaders had problem with her opting for a frock instead of the traditional ‘mekhela chador’.

This is the calendar we are talking about.

According to a report in DNA, Boko MLA Nandita Das and MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi raised this issue stating that the calendar pictures are not sober and that frock is not an Assamese attire. In fact, her cleavage was an issue for people too.

But, there’s nothing to worry Priyanka Chopra because your fans are standing in solidarity with you.

Didn’t you noticed she also wore saree for their ad ? Get a life you haters pic.twitter.com/NGhYpRjMJw

She dressed in sarees & traditional wear for all the promotional materials. One picture in a dress and yall losers lose ur shit. I know @aweassam bcz of Priyanka Chopra because of her ur state gets attention worldwide. Also personally I don’t feel anything bad about dress.Grow up! pic.twitter.com/7nlB3528tC

— VISMINI (@yasiru_vismini) February 20, 2018

OK agreed please explain why ur profile picture is in suit rather than a traditional dress. First change ur self before complaining about others

— Prasanth P Bhat (@prasubhat) February 21, 2018

Common.. Grow up.. Assam would have been much rich and progressive if we use our time in more innovation n constructive works. Time to change urself first

— Himaxi Gohain (@himaxi_gohain) February 19, 2018

Unfortunate that a party which claims to be progressive .. which till recently had a woman as its chief is now making a big deal about Priyanka Chopra’ satire for Assam ad …

— pallavi ghosh (@_pallavighosh) February 21, 2018

@priyankachopra : Proud of what you are doing. Neckline controversy in Assam tourism advert has been created for no reason and by people with shallow thinking … reflects their archaic mindset! You go girl!

— Ryality (@bharatryali) February 21, 2018

It’s sad for people to fight over a dress worn in a tourism calendar and shift their focus entirely from the places itself. I mean, I don’t remember the last time I visited any place looking at the traditional dress of that region. Honestly, I would go and try a Hanbok in South Korea, but I wouldn’t go there just to wear it. Let us know about your thoughts, guys!

She has received appreciations from critics and audiences alike for films like Pink, Naam Shabana and Judwaa 2, but actress Taapsee Pannu, who has been described as the “most powerful woman of the year” by a magazine, says she is yet to succeed

She has received appreciations from critics and audiences alike for films like Pink, Naam Shabana and Judwaa 2, but actress Taapsee Pannu, who has been described as the “most powerful woman of the year” by a magazine, says she is yet to touch stardom and still feels like a struggler.

Considering her achievements, does she feel she has gained stardom?

“Not at all. I don’t even feel like a star. I still feel like a struggler because I need to really work hard and make sure that my Friday works for me. I still don’t feel I am the one who will get the audience into theatres as yet. I don’t see that I have that pull, I am trying to make that,” Taapsee told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

She started her career as a model in 2008 and made her acting debut with Telugu film “Jhummandi Naadam” in 2010. Three years later, she stepped into Bollywood with Chashme Baddoor.

“The day I feel my audience is taking a ticket of my film and says ‘It’s Taapsee’s film, let’s go and watch it’, that day I will believe I am a star, before that no,” she added.

She has featured in a myriad of genres like comedy, thriller, drama, courtroom drama and romance.

Asked if she is trying to balance between genres, she said: “Of course yes, that is the idea behind mixing things up because I feel if I keep doing hard-hitting films which people (the audience) have loved me in and I am very happy about it, I feel people will stereotype me. They will start calling me that I am someone who does only these kind of not so mainstream cinema.”

The actress says she does not want to get pigeonholed in a particular genre.

“I don’t want them (the audience) to stereotype me because then the impact of these hard-hitting films will die down after a time because they would know what they would expect out of me. So, the fun is to mix and match because then you don’t know what you are coming up with next,” she added.

Taapsee, 30, is riding the burgeoning wave of films with female lead or co-lead roles with films like “Baby”, “Naam Shabana” and “Pink”. She feels confident that it is a trend going in the right direction and will continue.

Talking about the swift change from male to female lead actors in films, Taapsee said: “Of course efforts have been made and I am so happy to see each and every leading lady trying to make an effort to do a female-centric film. I think it’s a good way to begin at least to be open to taking risks and chances.”

The actress said that when she made her debut, she only saw particular actresses, who weren’t termed as mainstream heroines and doing female-centric movies.

“But within four years, you can see such a huge change where all the female A-listers, mainstream actresses today are doing at least one female-centric film a year which is so beautiful to see and the result of it is at par as the male-centric film but at least it is headed towards the right direction,” she added.

Taapsee also credits the audience for the positive shift.

“We are giving the audience content and the audience is slightly opening up I feel… At least they are giving us little bit of an opportunity. We just need to make sure to do good films as female protagonists as the audience continues to believe in us,” she added.

I’ve rarely met anyone who isn’t a fan of the iconic TV show ‘Friends’, because come on, it’s the greatest sitcom of all time, and that’s not just me saying it, it has officially been ranked as one. We still sit and watch all the reruns on Comedy Central all the time (I honestly record all the episodes on TV because ‘Friends’ is the best thing to watch while eating dinner) because it’s still that funny to watch as it was the first time.

Matt LeBlanc Replies To The Criticism Against 'Friends'

But, with ‘Friends’ coming on Netflix recently, there were so many people who watched the show for the first time and obviously it was well received by most of them. But there were still people out there pointing out all the problematic things about the show. Okay, I agree anything and everything can be problematic at some point but watching a show from the 90s keeping today’s time in mind can be a bit of an unfair comparison.

It’s such a loved and relatable show that we still happily watch it and it has withstood the test of time flawlessly; it did not do that by being ‘so problematic and offensive’.

Matt LeBlanc Replies To The Criticism Against 'Friends'

The show has been accused of a number of different things – sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and fat shaming. Okay, let’s break all of them down. The fat shaming part is obviously related to the running gag of ‘Fat Monica’ and poking fun at her weight. The transphobia comes from the fact that Chandler was ashamed of his drag-queen dad. Remember when Ross couldn’t believe that a guy was a nanny, and then just assumed he was gay because of his profession? That’s the sexism accusations. And, lastly the show is being called homophobic because Chandler was paranoid about being perceived as a gay man.

Wow, that was a lot!

Matt LeBlanc Replies To The Criticism Against 'Friends'

Now, let’s move on to Matt LeBlanc’s reply, because that is what we’re here for. Disagreeing with all the criticism, he said, “I’ve heard those rumours too about people taking pot shots at Friends, but I don’t want to get into that. I disagree with all that. I see young people enjoying and loving the show. Everyone gets up in arms about one thing or another these days. I think that will go as quickly as it came. I don’t think it’s something Friends will be judged by.”

He went on, “On Top Gear we tend to steer clear of any sort of political content, nothing too topical. On Friends we steered clear of that kind of thing, too. Friends was about themes that stand the test of time – trust, love, relationships, betrayal, family and things like that.”

Matt LeBlanc Replies To The Criticism Against 'Friends'

Well, we’re still talking about ‘Friends’, even 14 years after it went off air, so I guess that’s all the proof you need about how it can stand the test of time.
