'Den of Thieves' Trailer: Gerald Butler Pulls An Al Pacino To Raise The Heat In This Crime Flick

Just like a great meal feels incomplete without a sinful dessert, an action movie is incomplete if there isn’t a badass cop who dares to cross the limits and go to extreme lengths to catch the bad guy. At times the lines are so blurred that we get confused if they are even supposed to be the ‘good guys’ and torchbearers of justice in the first place. You are compelled to question who’s more dangerous – cops or the criminals? Gerard Butler brings similar vibes to the upcoming crime thriller ‘Den Of Thieves’ and by the looks of the trailer, the movie has the potential to give 2018 that much needed action-packed start.

The storyline isn’t something extraordinary. In fact, it exploits the age old favorite trick of directors to gather a bunch of thieves and make them pull off one of the biggest bank heists in history. This movie too walks on a similar path – a group of bank robbers plan to take down the Federal Reserve Bank in Los Angeles. However, one of the thieves comes under the radar hands of Butler, who does not have words like mercy or kindness in his dictionary.

He is one straight-up badass, who looks like he was summoned from hell to make things unbearable and painful for people (read: criminals) on earth. The trailer does fulfill our sadistic fantasies, with a scene where Butler remorselessly interrogates a man and tells him that he won’t get any medical help unless he gives some important scoop.

He is clearly not a cop who will go by the book and neither was Al Pacino in ‘Heat’. First glance at the trailer and the comparison between 1995 ‘Heat’ and ‘Den Of Thieves’ is inevitable. Even if the background of LA does not convince you, a tough cop who thinks and works with equal savagery as criminals will surely remind you Michael Mann’s classic crime film.

‘Den of Thieves’ is helmed by Christian Gudegast and also stars Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent, Pablo Schreiber, Evan Jones, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Max Holloway. Well, after his ‘Geostorm’ tanked big time at the box office, we hope Gerard bounces back with much fierceness with this movie that will release on January 19, 2018.

Despite their divorce, Sussanne Khan and Hrithik Roshan maintain cordial relations. She has stood by Hrithik during his row with Kangana Ranaut. At an event in Mumbai recently, when Sussanne was asked about the Hrithik-Kangana feud, the interior designer dodged the question.

A few weeks ago, Sussanne hit back at Kangana on social media. She posted a picture with Hrithik and responded to the allegations made by Kangana and her sister Rangoli Chandel. “There is no allegation or sad plot that can have the weight to triumph over a good soul. #powerofthetruth #mafamilia #goodoverevil,” Sussanne had written.

Sussanne’s post came after Kangana Ranaut’s appearance on TV talk show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, where she said that Hrithik should apologise to her publicly for causing her trauma after their alleged relationship ended.

Raju Srivastava files police complaint against imposter for derogatory memes

After weeks of noticing how his picture was attached to disgraceful jokes about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other members of BJP that did the rounds on social media, comedian Raju Srivastava has taken matters into his own hands. The comedian lodged a police complaint against an unknown imposter at Oshiwara police station yesterday. In his complaint, Srivastava claimed that the imposter is maligning his image by sharing derogatory posts.

The grievance has been filed under Section 500 of IPC (punishment for defamation), a copy of which is in possession of mid-day. He stated that the imposter used his name with criminal intention “for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, insult, criminal intimidation and ill-will against me causing damage to my reputation.”

Speaking to mid-day, a livid Srivastava said, “Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but do not use my name. When the joke is not mine, why should I take the blame for it?” He added that the jokes circulated with his picture were in bad taste. “The jokes should be clean and should not target someone. Social media is a great platform to spread good word. Why use it to spread negativity? And don’t use my name or photo for the same.”

Ali Fazal: Every actor can aspire to play this part

His first actioner has already seen Ali Fazal train with different guns. Mirzapur, which is being produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani, features the actor as a local don. Fazal’s Munna rules over the fictional town of Mirzapur, which is set in the desi heartland. The Karan Anshuman-directed show marks Fazal’s return to the digital platform after he won accolades for Bang Baaja Baarat. In an interview with mid-day, Fazal talk about returning to a platform that “bridges the world” and finding inspiration in his close one for the part.

Tell us about the show.
I guess you can call it a concoction of Narcos and The Godfather. It has a rural setting and explores what goes on in the underbelly of the Hindi heartland.

You perform a fair share of action in the show. What prompted you to take it up?
I’ve never performed action sequences of such intensity. In fact, when I’m in character, I can hardly recognise myself. The role is one that any artiste would aspire to play. I’ve tried to imbibe the qualities of a man that I’ve looked up to all my life for this outing. However, the role is only loosely based on him. We’ve already commenced filming for it in Benaras.

How have you prepared to get into character?
I need to have a grasp over the local dialects of Uttar Pradesh. The dialect changes from Bihar, Allahabad and Lucknow, and the nuances are different. I haven’t mastered it yet, but have learnt enough to do justice to my part. Also, I learnt how to shoot with different guns.

Your web show, Bang Baaja Baraat, was among the first to gain popularity online. Do you think it paved the way for other actors?
It did. And look at where the Internet has taken it now! The web world is bursting with great and unique content. The world is getting smaller, the stage, bigger. I can’t wait to bridge it all. So, I am happy to spearhead this show.

Has your approach to your craft changed after you acted with Judi Dench in your last film, Victoria & Abdul?
She taught me compassion and gratitude. If Judi still likes to call herself a working actor [at 85], then it’s time to revisit how we view our job. Every day is a new day, and one full day. Life is more than just, worrying about paying s**t off.

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, who essays the fantastical character of Hela in “Thor: Ragnarok”, says she “really enjoyed” beating people up as the female villain of the film. “I think so (whether Hela is the most physical role she has ever taken). I’m pretty physical when I’m on stage. ‘Indiana Jones’ was quite physical. But in terms of hand-to-hand combat, this definitely wins. And that’s been part of what I’ve relished actually,” Blanchett said in a statement.

She said she enjoyed working with Zoe Bell, whom she called “the most extraordinary stunt person and also a wonderful actor”. “We had this sort of really symbiotic relationship. She’s been very generous and clear and such an incredible teacher, showing me how to mime better. But also to say that this moment leads here and that there’s an opportunity if you wanted to do something in here.

“It’s not looking at a fight in a traditional way, which is a series of punches and kicks and knocking someone to the ground. There’s a psychology in it, which has been really fun to play with. I’ve loved it,” she added. Blanchett also said that “some of the happiest times on this film for me have been beating people up. I’ve really enjoyed it”.

“I was like, ‘oh, I don’t have to speak today. I can just throw axes into someone’s gut and decapitate that person there’. So, it’s been good,” she said. Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok” is directed by Taika Waititi and also stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins and Jeff Goldblum among others. The movie will release in India on November 3.

'Winchester' Trailer Recreates The Horror Of Living In The World's Most Haunted Mansion

What was once a personal residence and ‘home sweet home’ of Sarah Winchester in California’s San Jose, is now amongst the most haunted places in the world, and the reason will creep your senses out! While one builds a house for themselves or their family, Sarah was constructing an asylum for hundreds of vindictive ghosts. She got people to work on an insane schedule of 24-hours a day, seven-days a week for decades and built a seven-storey tall, monstrous, mansion with hundreds of rooms, to appease the spirits. The horror of living with ghosts is now being recreated on-screen and the trailer is already out with the iconic Helen Mirren playing Sarah Winchester.

This Gothic mansion exists in reality and is infamous for being the world’s most haunted house and the trailer of ‘Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built’ does complete justice in portraying the same. Helmed by the Spierig brothers, this movie revolves around the Winchester firearms heiress and widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, Sarah Winchester.

After the sudden death of her husband and child, she believes that she is cursed and begins building a mansion with hundreds of rooms in it. But here’s the catch. She is not building a house; she is constructing an asylum or prison for ghosts, one of whom has an old score to settle with the Winchesters.

In fact, if the real stories are to be believed, Sarah didn’t hire an architect, but built the house in a haphazard manner with stairs and doors leading to nowhere and windows overlooking other rooms; owing to her belief in ghosts. Apparently, the spirits directly ‘inspired’ her to design the mansion with number 13 and spider-web motifs looming heavily on the interiors; such as a chandelier with 13 candle holders, drain covers on the sinks with 13 holes, and a large bell which rung 13 times at 1300 hours on every Friday the 13th.

It will be interesting to see how the Spierig brothers who are famed for movies like ‘Jigsaw’, ‘Predestination’ and ‘Daybreakers’; work their magic around this supernatural horror film. While the movie had us at Helen Mirren, names like Jason Clarke, Sarah Snook and Angus Sampson; hit that last nail on our binge list. The movie is slated to release on February 2, 2018.
