Post ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, SRK fans are now awaiting a real visual fest where you’d get to acknowledge his brilliant acting prowess. The king of B-town is known to dabble in movies that are high on entertainment and also do stuff that reflects his talent. His upcoming movie with Aanand L Rai is going to be an interesting project, primarily because he is essaying the role of a dwarf.

While the comparisons with Kaman Hassan’s ‘Appu Raja’ are only natural, you must remember  that for essaying a role of this kind, the only thing an actor can use are his acting skills. So the charm and music take a back seat. Kamal Hassan is still remembered for his iconic performance.

However, according to the latest reports about this untitled project, SRK’s character is actually inspired by Tyrion Lannister from the epic series called ‘Game Of Thrones.’

A close source was quoted as saying ,“The source of Shah Rukh’s character is definitely on the lines of Tyrion Lannister, who is happy and always celebrating his life. Shah Rukh will play a happy dwarf, who brings families together.” In the show, Tyrion is initially looked down upon by his own family and being a dwarf only makes him stand out. Apparently Shah Rukh’s character will be on the similar lines.

The movie is yet to have an official announcement regarding the leading lady but for long, the rumours of Katrina Kaif being a pivotal part of it have been floating around. The movie is probably going to release in December 2018.

Kangana Ranaut in the videoKangana Ranaut in the video

Kangana Ranaut and Tanmay Bhat are possibly two of the most politically incorrect people around. When the duo gets together to battle sexism, one can be assured that it will be an unfiltered and unadulterated account. The two recently teamed up for a promotional video for Ranaut’s upcoming film, Simran.

Sources from the set reveal that it’s an uproarious original song, based on a hit ditty, which sees the actor take on sexism in Bollywood. Directed by Bhat, the video stars comedian Varun Thakur.

One to champion gender equality, Kangana Ranaut was glad to collaborate with AIB on the subject.

Bhat said, “Kangana is a natural at comedy. The best comic actors are always those who are able to take a script and elevate it.”

When asked whether their act will ruffle feathers, he asserted, “Offense is taken, never given. So who gets offended how and when shouldn’t concern the artistes.”

Ranaut remained unavailable for comment.

Sneha UllalSneha Ullal

Salman Khan’s discovery Sneha Ullal, who featured in Lucky: No Time For Love (2005), is making yet another attempt to be back on the scene.

The Aishwarya Rai Bachchan lookalike features in a music video Ishqwaali Baarish, which releases later this month. Ullal, who has moved South, has not yet given up on Bollywood. A word from Khan would certainly help.

Former CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani aka Alok Nath’s doppelganger (in terms of sanskaar) aka the master of cuts, has finally shed his ‘sanskari’ image and how. Honestly, had there been a world record for suggesting extreme number of cuts in any movie, with words ranging from f**k, screw, a****le, bi**h to even Bombay; Nihalani would have broken all of them. Having said that, the man who was known for demanding unnecessary cuts in a movie during his tenure, seems to be on a erotic trip these days and his latest video *cough* ‘Julie 2′ trailer *cough* is proof of how fancy his life after CBFC is. We guess all those innumerable cuts suggested were finally put to some using and that was to make the script of a ‘clean’ erotic movie ‘Julie 2′. ‘Julie 2′ is the sequel to Neha Dhupia’s 2004 ‘Julie’.

Check Out The Trailer Of Pahlaj Nihalani's ‘Julie 2'© Triumph

The movie that marks the debut of actress Raai Laxmi in Bollywood has already dropped many a jaws, partly because of the steamy scenes and partly because we weren’t expecting this overload of carnal ‘sanskaar’ from Nihalani. Having said that, by the looks of the trailer, the movie does not seem to offer anything new as it revolves around the same old practice of casting couch and how some sleazy producers and directors often dupe newbies into giving sexual favours for movie roles. And while our protagonist Julie narrates her ordeal, audience is taken through a series of random close up shots of her swimming in bikini, she undressing herself and a CID officer Abhijeet (actor Aditya Srivastava) popping out of nowhere to solve a murder case. The movie is directed by Deepak Shivdasani and also features Rati Agnihotri, Sahil Salathia, Ravi Kishen and Pankaj Tripathi. It is slated to release on October 6.

Well, we guess Nihalani is spot on with his job even after his ousting from CBFC. Earlier, it was reported that he once said he will clean up all the Bollywood movies and he did that with ‘Julie 2′ trailer – he wiped all the ‘sanskaar’ out from this movie.

Akshay Kumar and Ranveer SinghAkshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh

Nine years after Akshay Kumar’s Singh Is Kinng (2008) spun magic at the box office, producer Shailendra Singh is keen on making a sequel to the action comedy. He is in talks with Ranveer Singh to step into the shoes of Kumar.

However, Singh has run into his first hurdle in the nascent stages of production itself — filmmaker Vipul A Shah, who has the copyright to Singh Is Kinng, has refused to part with the title.

What’s interesting is that while Shah is giving Singh a hard time over the film’s title, he was embroiled in a similar situation in July. The filmmaker had to rename his Namastey London sequel as Namastey Canada since Kumar, who co-owns the intellectual property rights of the film, refused to part with the titles, Namastey England and Namastey London 2.

Talking about his ordeal, Singh says, “I created the franchise — the concept of the movie and the title was owned by me. I gifted it to Akshay, who, in turn, gave it to Vipul Shah. They have even thanked me for the title in the credit roll. I have been begging Vipul to return it to me, but he hasn’t relented.”

Singh adds that whenever he broaches the subject with Shah, the filmmaker states that he needs the title as he intends to make a sequel. “Yesterday, I sent him a text saying, ‘It’s been more than nine years and it’s obvious that you are not making Singh Is Kinng 2. So why not give the title back gracefully? Be a gentleman!'”

Disappointed by Shah’s behaviour, the producer has now submitted another title for registration. “I don’t want to fight any longer. I have got a new title; it’s sexier than Singh Is Kinng,” he claims.

Singh adds that he has already bounced the idea off Ranveer. “My priority is to work with Ranveer Singh. He is a lethal combination of Salman Khan and Johnny Depp. The film will be a heist drama. As soon as the script is ready, we’ll give him a narration.”

We reached out to Shah, but he remained unavailable for comment.

Sona Mohapatra and Kangana RanautSona Mohapatra and Kangana Ranaut

Playback singer Sona Mohapatra, who rose to fame with the song ‘Ambarsariya’ is renowned for her outspoken nature on social media platforms for raising their opinion on the heated debates of Bollywood.

Recently, Kangana Ranaut appeared on the popular show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ and without mincing any words, she, once again, spoke unabashedly about her alleged affair with Hrithik Roshan.

Post which, there were discussions happening on the social media about this stint of Kangana as a publicity stunt for her upcoming film ‘Simran,’ which is due to release. On the other hand there were people who sympathised with her and spoke harsh words against Hrithik Roshan, which was a never-ending debate.

Talking about which, Sona Mohapatra took the Facebook route to express her opinion and requested Kangana not to wash the dirty linen of her affair with Hrithik in public and make it a circus, rather let her deeds speak louder.

The singer wrote: “Dear Kangana, I have always cheered loudly, in private & in public for you. Long, long before you turned queen et all but your current run across the airwaves regurgitating personal details of your love life over & over again, washing dirty linen in public & more so as part of a professional PR campaign before your film release is in bad taste. No two ways about it. Also, it does a big dis-service to the cause of feminism & fair play. Wish you well & wish you would rise above this muck & make your point through actions & your work. Your success doesn’t need this tabloid trail. Your well thought out & superbly worded open letters of the past, fearless interviews addressing larger issues, taking a stand, taking legal recourse are welcome. The current ‘circus’, not.”

The post further read: This is just another opinion in the public domain from one working woman to another, from the heart & on an impulse. There is no PR machinery or team guiding me here. I do believe that there are plenty of feminists in the opposite gender. Men who cheer the cause of outspoken, feisty, fierce & hard working women like you & me. We don’t ‘need’ them as such but let’s not forget them & also the thousands of amazing women who fight the good fight on a daily basis with dignity.”

“Life might not have been easy but you are in a great place now. More so to influence positive change. That is worthy of a daily celebration. Also, today is Onam, a thanksgiving festival in the South. The mythology surrounding the festival is significant – it emphasizes the Hindu belief in the cyclical nature of events, that no individual, no ruler and nothing lasts forever, except the virtues and self-understanding that overcomes all sorrow. So, Happy Onam. Big love & healing to you. (P.S To the so called ‘journos’ hankering after this masala & asking those thaka hua questions. (sic),” concluded Sona.

However, this is not for the maiden time that Sona has been vocal about an issue.

Earlier, Sona had grabbed headlines for taking a jibe at Salman Khan and in the recent past, she put forward her disagreement on actors turning towards the mic.

Bobby Deol

Even though he has several commercial successes to his credit, Bollywood actor Bobby Deol acquired the image of an artist whose acting prowess couldn’t earn him sufficient screen time.

Deol, who last featured in the 2013 comedy, ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’, alongside father Dharmendra and brother Sunny, is still trying to comprehend what went wrong in his career. “I did absolutely nothing over the last four years. I don’t know what went wrong. Either I was not appealing, or, the roles that I wanted to be part of, did not come my way. I laid low since I was losing the plot,” he tells mid-day.

After enduring what he describes as the “most frustrating and depressing phase” of his life, Deol is now focusing on his forthcoming release, Poster Boys, which also features Sunny and Shreyas Talpade. The star son calls this outing an effort to “start from scratch”. “I have come out stronger and exorcised the demons in my mind.”

That Deol 2.0 is indeed determined about this second inning is evident when he says he is looking forward to portraying “character roles” and will not restrict himself to films that feature him as the leading man. He credits Talpade, also a producer on the film, for showing belief in his work. “Shreyas helped me when I was frustrated. He believed that I could pull off the role of a small town man. Bhaiya [Sunny] and I are doing things we have never done before.”

An unkempt facial fuzz that Deol had sported over the past few years had given cinephiles reason to believe he was losing interest in his work. But, he clears the air, saying the look was for a role in a film that never took off. “The beard kept getting longer while the project stayed in the backburner. One day, I decided to go clean, knowing the film would never roll.” There was also talk of him turning DJ, but Deol terms his foray into music as a figment of someone’s imagination. “I read those reports, they were untrue.”

Pahlaj Nihalani, along with the entire team of his upcoming  film ‘Julie 2’ was present at its trailer launch, which stars the bold
and beautiful Raai Laxmi as the film’s central character.

The trailer of the film highlights erotic and sensuous scenes from the film, the reason the lead actress Raai Laxmi cited for it is ‘commercial purposes’.

In the past, films like ‘Udta Punjab’,’ ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha,’ ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz,’ and several other films have faced the wrath of Pahlaj’s harsh censor board’s scissors, whilst his tenure as the Censor Chief.

At the media interaction, when Nihalani was prodded with the question of what certification would he pass ‘Julie 2’ with, had he still been in the  Chief’s chair?

To which, he fumed with anger and said, “I wouldn’t say anything, whoever is the CBFC chief, will do it. It’s a clean adult family film. I wouldn’t  have given any cut, would pass it with A certificate. It’s a clear adult film. India is a place where nothing’s achieved without being a well-cultured person. Mai sanskaari tha, sanskari hu, aur sanskaari rahunga. (I am, was and will always remain a well-cultured person).

Contradictory to the film’s trailer, distributor Nihalani says, “There are no such bold scenes in the film. It is not an adult film which would act as an obstacle for me to not distribute the film. The sanskaari tag that people have given me, after watching the film people will realise why I’m  distributing the film. People are reacting as though Julie 2 is a foul word.” Further talking about the subject of the film, distributor Pahlaj revealed,

Talking about using CBFC as a marketing tool, ex- CBFC Chief said, “We will not use it (CBFC) as a platform as a tool of marketing and publicity. Earlier, filmmakers, who wouldn’t market their film enough, would use CBFC as a marketing tool. “

Tisca ChopraTisca Chopra

Although she was applauded for her role as Darsheel Safary’s mother in Aamir Khan’s directorial debut, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ (2007), Tisca Chopra’s appearances in commercial Bollywood films have been far and few between. Ageism, a phenomenon that Hollywood artistes are being increasingly vocal about, is cited as the reason for the limited screen time the actor enjoys.

“I am willing to do any film, even mainstream Bollywood projects. But, the industry doesn’t have enough space for artistes like me. It doesn’t know how to cast an actor who would not fit into the quintessential role of a bhabhi, behen or biji. There aren’t enough characters written [for such actors]. While people talk about how the industry is changing, it will take several years for such stronger characters to become a part of cinema.”

Chopra, who is gearing up for her forthcoming Indian drama, ‘The Hungry’, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, alongside Naseeruddin Shah, says that despite its progress, Bollywood still banks on stereotypes. The actor says she derives satisfaction by creating her own content instead.

“Who would have thought that a film called Chutney will earn over a million views and bag awards,” she questions of her 2016 short which revolved around a housewife and her cheating husband. The Hungry pairs Chopra with Shah for the first time. The actor, she admits, she has known “beyond movies”, but terms watching him perform, and enacting alongside him ‘surreal’. “There’s so much to learn from him.”
