It was strange to see Anushka Sharma introduce Yash Raj’s new face, Anya Singh, at an event on Wednesday. Anushka, who is also a YRF discovery, was kept hidden by the production house during her debut film, ‘Rab Ne Bana Do Jodi’ (2008).

She stepped out only after the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer had hit the marquee. It’s almost a decade and it’s a different scenario now. Known for keeping things a well-guarded secret otherwise, this makes for a welcome change from YRF.

Katrina KaifKatrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif may be busy promoting her upcoming film with former lover Ranbir Kapoor, but it’s the opportunity to work with the top three Khans of Bollywood that has her excited and feeling fortunate.

Salman Khan

“It’s a coincidence that I am working with all of them around the same time,” says the actor, adding, “I am shooting for ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’. Salman is an amazing co-star to work with. I am comfortable around him. Recently, I wrapped up the shoot for ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ with Aamir in Malta. His approach is meticulous, he is dedicated to his craft. And next is a film with Shah Rukh.”

Putting her failed relationship with Kapoor behind Katrina Kaif, she wishes to now focus on her work. “Over the last year-and-a-half, people have spoken more about my personal life. But I wish that the focus now shifts to my work. It hasn’t been easy to get back to the grind, but I am enjoying it,” she says.

Kaif’s last two Bollywood outings, ‘Fitoor’ and ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ (both 2016), didn’t fare well at the box office, and she doesn’t deny that failure bothers her. “When a film doesn’t do well after all the hard work [you put in], there is heartbreak. It’s not a good feeling. I’d love to experience box office acceptance.”

ShahrukhRecently, Shah Rukh Khan, Imtiaz Ali and Anushka Sharma launched their second song “Beech beech Meina” which is a club song from their forthcoming film, in a club called Tamasha.

While speaking to the media, Shah Rukh revealed that he has not gone for clubbing much because back then he didn’t have money.

He said: “I haven’t gone for clubbing much. When I was in Delhi, that time I never used to have that much money to go into clubs and then I came here (Mumbai) to act in movies and became a star so I haven’t had much opportunity to go into clubs here as well. Whatever club hopping I have done is all because of Imtiaz while shooting for this film.”

Talking about the song “Beech Beech Mein”, he said: “‘Beech Beech Mein’ is a club song…this song comes when Harry and Sejal start celebrating in pubs, karaoke bars and night club with very few (friends) around them. It’s the couple partying. So our team thought that if we go to club or lounge to launch the song then it will be nice.”

“This song symbolizes the fact that there are times in a relationship when you are not certain about it. It’s somewhere in the middle without any conclusion so this whole song is like that and I feel people will relate to it,” Shah Rukh added.

Currently, Shah Rukh Khan, is gearing up for the release of his film “Jab Harry Met Sejal” and is leaving no stone unturned to promote it to the fullest.

tapaaseActress Taapsee Pannu has wrapped up shooting major portions of her upcoming film “Judwaa 2” and is now looking forward to shoot with superstar Salman Khan.

“Judwaa 2” is a sequel to the 1997 hit film “Judwaa” which starred Salman in a double role. In the second installment, Varun Dhawan reprises the role of the superstar.

When asked how is the film shaping up, Pannu told reporters, “The shooting is going good, it’s about to get over. Two songs and a scene with Salman are left. We will shoot that soon… I am very excited to meet him, it will be my first time, and to share screen space with him.”

The actress recently shot two songs for the movie which were retained from the original, “Oonchi Hai Building” and “Tan Tana Tan”.
“It was so much fun shooting ‘Oonchi Hai Building’ and ‘Tan Tana Tan’, I didn’t want the shoot to end. These are the songs I grew up listening so I can dance on them for days,”

she said at Sportsperson of the Year award event here last night.

Pannu said if not a movie star, she would’ve loved to be a sports personality as she admires them a lot.

“I feel if I had gotten a chance or had some sports skills, I would’ve definitely tried to be a sports star instead of an actor. I am a sports lover and admire it very much, because the way they play under pressure, with no retakes, representing the country, all of them are big heroes for me.”

srideviHer film Mom has received rave reviews and it seem the beautiful lady is extremely happy with the result of her hard work.

During the preview of her movie Mom, Sridevi shared a few moment with a reporter from the Times Of India. When asked what her daughters thought of the movie, Sridevi told the reporter, “My younger one, Khushi, hasn’t seen the movie. She has seen some parts and has loved it. But Janhvi saw the whole movie. Her first reaction was that she came up to me and just hugged me. She couldn’t speak. It was overwhelming. And I felt nice about it. I was happy that the film had really moved her.”

Mom, the movie is a thriller based on the mother-daughter relationship. Released five years after her first come-back film English Vinglish, when asked as to why she had taken so long to do her next film, she said, “No, it wasn’t. I have never planned these things in life. Even ‘English Vinglish’ just happened. After that film, for quite some time, I was just enjoying its success and got busy with my own stuff. Then Mom came up and we were all very excited about the film, the plot. But it took time to put things together – in fact, it took nearly two years for everything to fall in place, the director, the actors, the music.”

When asked about how different it is to shoot in the modern era with everything being digital, Sridevi says it’s very different. “Work ethics, sincerity, hard work… the core factors have remained the same. But technically, there has been a huge change in the industry. I was discussing with Boneyji the other day – earlier, there used to be film rolls, and with every retake, everyone, from actors to producers, would get tensed. Each roll meant additional cost. As an actor, you would feel guilty after a few retakes… you would say to yourself, ‘Oh god, producer dekh raha hai, poora film roll khatam kar diya retake karte karte’. But now you have hard drives. Ab kitna bhi marzi aap retake lo, till the director feels everything is perfect. And nobody has to be tensed!” She adds.

Being a mother of two daughters herself, we wonder if the movie resounded with her in some intrinsic way. When asked, she said, “I play a mother in the film, but I must say, at a personal level, I couldn’t connect to the character at all. Devki (her character in the film) is a very strong mother. She can do anything, go to any extent for her children, for their safety and happiness. This is a quality every mother has. Yes, that way, I could identify with the character. But the rest of it is really unnerving and disturbing.”

Ranbir-Kapoor-katrinaRanbir Kapoor’s personal life has always been the object of discussion in media and elsewhere.

After breaking up with Deepika Padukone, then Katrina Kaif, a report according to DNA states that the actor may have found new love in his life.

The report states that Ranbir Kapoor is dating a Mumbai-based girl, however she is not an actress, neither does she have anything to do with the film industry. Reportedly, she even joined him on one of the promotional events of ‘Jagga Jasoos.’ Not just that, she even met Ranbir’s ex, Katrina Kaif and the latter is definitely not happy about his new-found love interest.

The source added that it is not clear if Ranbir is simply hanging out with her, but it could be construed that he is rubbing his new object of affection in Katrina’s face, who is also hanging out with her ex, Salman Khan, these days. Ranbir is constantly on the phone and this seems to irritate Katrina. Their irritability and uncomfortable vibes were sensed by one and all, who attended the promotional events of ‘Jagga Jasoos’.

sridevi-janviRavi Udyawar, who is making his debut with Sridevis “Mom”, says the veteran actress elder daughter Jhanvi suggested Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiquis name for the role of a father in the film.

“Jhanvi is the one who recommended Adnan Siddiqui’s name while we were casting. We were looking for somebody for a father’s role and Jhanvi said, ‘I’ve seen this actor called Adnan Siddiqui, who has done ‘A Mighty Heart’ with Angelina Jolie. I had also watched that film, so I looked up for him and we cast him in the film,” Udyawar told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

Besides Adnan, “Mom” also features Pakistani actress Sajal Ali as Sridevi’s daughter in the film.

“It was amazing working with them (Adnan and Sajal), they are fine actors. It was important to cast the daughter as she had to connect well with Sridevi’s character. So, they have done a brilliant job,” said Udyawar, who has previously worked as an art director, producer-director on television entertainers and has also directed commercials and music videos.

Besides them, “Mom”, releasing on Friday, also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna.

Udyawar says the idea behind making “Mom” was to “explore mother-daughter bond and put conflict into that”.

“I really love the intricacies of relations where things are not spoken, but you can feel the problems in it. I am trying to give an answer to the question, ‘What it really means to be a mother?’ It’s a fictional story, but a relevant story in today’s times,” he said.
The process of the film’s making started in 2014 when Udyawar met Sridevi’s husband producer Boney Kapoor.

“We discussed some ideas and I liked one of them which talked about a mother and her daughter. I always wanted Sridevi ma’am as the protagonist and he said, ‘You have to pitch it to her and if she likes it then we will make it.’

“I showed the script to ma’am and she loved the idea and we started shooting,” Udyawar recalled.

How was it working with Sridevi?
“As it was her 300th film and my first one, there was a lot of responsibility looking at the kind of work that she has done. Yes, there was pressure on me, but working with her is amazing,” he said.

“After all these years, even now when she comes on set, she is like a newcomer — as if she is starting it again. She is really excited and enthusiastic about scenes and tries to push her limits as an actress. That’s something that we can learn from her.

“She herself is a mother, so I am sure people will connect with her when they will see her. Although it’s not her own story, she must have added some personal touch to her character,” he added.

Udyawar considers himself “lucky” to have got a chance to work with Sridevi, Nawazuddin and Akshaye in his debut film. He has already started thinking about his next project,

“If given a chance I would love to direct her (Sridevi) again. I will like it if she acts in a comedy film directed by me. That would be great. She has done amazing work earlier in comedy. She is still the same. She is fantastic while doing that,” Udyawar concluded.

Akshaye-KhannaSridevi worked with Vinod Khanna in the 1989 film “Chandni”. Back then and even later, she never thought she will end up acting with his son Akshaye Khanna, with whom she has shared the frame for “Mom”.

“I used to meet Akshaye on the sets of ‘Chandni’ while working with Vinod Khanna, but I never imagined that I would ever work with him,” Sridevi said in an interview to IANS here.

“He (Akshaye) is a focussed and dignified actor, and you come across only a very few actors like him. It was wonderful to work with him,” added the actress, who was in the capital for the film’s promotion.

It is after a leap of five years that the 53-year-old actress has returned to acting in Bollywood. She last regaled her fans in a mother’s role in “English Vinglish”, and she is once again playing the role of a mother in “Mom” — but with a difference.

“For two years, I was enjoying the success of “English Vinglish” (2012). I got many scripts but that spontaneity of saying ‘yes’ did not strike me. The script of ‘Mom’ script really touched me and moved me. So I decided to work on it,” Sridevi added.

The story of “Mom”, directed by Ravi Udyawar, talks about how far a mother can go for the sake of her children. It also features critically acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a key role.

“It’s a universal subject… This mother character is strong and she is not on the softer side,” said Sridevi, who “really enjoyed” how the film gave her a chance to portray an “intense, emotional and genuine” part.

A mother of two daughters — Jhanvi and Khushi, how is she as a mom off-screen?
“I am not possessive, but a very protective mother. Me and my daughters are more like friends, so we share and discuss everything.
“Mother is a mother — everywhere it’s the same — the concern, the worries always remain,” she said, adding that the story of “Mom” is very relevant in today’s time.

The film is produced by her husband Boney Kapoor.

She calls him “the most passionate and involved producer I have come across”.

“Not just in financing the movie, but in each step he was there for the actors and technicians as well to fulfil their views towards the movie,” said Sridevi.

The evergreen beauty, who worked as a child artiste first and then took on leading roles starting 1976, has worked across Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema. Loved for her expressive acting and dancing skills, she has delivered memorable performances in films like “Himmatwala”, “Mr. India”, “Sadma”, “Nagina”, “ChaalBaaz” and “Lamhe”.

“Mom” will release on Friday.

“Jab galat aur bahut galat mein se chunana ho, toh aap kya chunenge?” (When you have to choose between wrong and very wrong, what would you choose?”). This question posed by Sridevi stays with you long after you leave the theatre. The intensity of this one line is so deep that it keeps echoing in your head.

‘Mom’, starring Sridevi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Akshaye Khanna isn’t just a film that entertains you, but it is a film that moves you and brings back the reality that we try to shun time and again. From making you restless to giving you goosebumps, ‘Mom’ is a film that you end up liking despite its predictable plot.

‘Mom' Review: Sridevi and Nawazuddin's Performances Definitely Make It A Must Watch© ZeeStudios

The whole premise of the film revolves around Ary Sabrwala (Sajal Ali) who is gang raped by her classmate Mohit and his friends. This shatters the lives of Devaki Sabarwal (Sridevi, Arya’s mother) and her family. But due to the “loss” of evidence, these culprits are declared innocent by the court. Devaki decides to take revenge! What’s left for the audience is to see if she succeeds in doing what our justice system failed to do?

From portraying a strained relationship between a teen and her stepmother to the story after her sexual assault, Ravi Udyawar’s directorial debut brilliantly captures the myriad of emotions associated with a dark and deeply disturbing topic and it will keep on the edge of your seat.

Saying anything else about the plot of the film is as good as giving you a spoiler. But we can surely drop some hints on Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character. He plays a detective named DK who helps Sridevi. You also have Crime Branch Officer, Francis, (Akshaye Khanna) who has his own set of suspicions and is tracking the case on his own.

To sum it up, here are the reasons why you should watch ‘Mom’ this weekend.

1. The film proves that Sridevi is one of the finest actors around and no matter how far she stays away from the silver screen she is just fabulous when she is on it. She carries the whole movie on her shoulders and delivers a performance for the ages. She isn’t playing a character, she IS that character.

2. What can we say about Nawaz? Has this man ever disappointed us? You give him a character and he gets into the skin of that role. He provides some much-required humour in the film amidst all the drama and tension. He is just outstanding!

3. Watching Akshaye onscreen after such a long time is a treat. We’re just wondering why we don’t see him more often?

4. Saljal and Adnan (Arya’s father) mark their Bollywood debut with ‘Mom’ and there have impressed us with their acting skills.

‘Mom' Review: Sridevi and Nawazuddin's Performances Definitely Make It A Must Watch© ZeeStudios

5. A R Rahman’s music and background score are truly exceptional and add so much to the film.

6. From direction to Anay Goswamy’s cinematography, the film keeps us focused on the screen right up to the end.

7. The film justifies the famous line, “Bhagan har jagah nahi ho sakta….isliye usne Maa banayi hai.” (God couldn’t be everywhere so he created a mother).

8. Sridevi and Nawaz sharing screen space together just takes this film to another level. We bow down to them!

However, the only problem with the film is its climax and it is sadly, a little too predictable and gets too dramatic giving it a completely mainstream and dull end. But apart from those last 20 minutes, this film worth every penny. Do not miss this hard hitting story. Check it out this weekend.
