The common perception is that AIB has been at the forefront of upholding feminist ideals in this country through their humorous sketches. But now, two former actors in their videos have taken the comedy collective to the cleaners over the lack of female representation in their videos, outside of ones that are obviously women-centric. In fact, Aayushi Jagad and Sumedh Natu — in their damning video – have even gone to the extent of pointing out that female actors in general AIB sketches are so non-functional that they can even be replaced with a table lamp.

This comes as quite a slap in the face of the comedy group that projects a progressive image amid the sanskari overtones rapidly spreading in Indian society. But to be fair to them, AIB hasn’t taken the criticism with a pinch of salt, and has instead released a statement saying that they acknowledge where they went wrong, and promise to work on making their videos more representational. Now, all we have to do is wait for them to turn their words into action.
