Social media is a weird place. On one hand, you’ll see people wax eloquent about morals and ethics, and so on, and on the other hand, these are the same people who often forget that there are limits to what one can say.

It has now become a trend for trolls to pass absurd comments every now and then. Look, we totally support ‘freedom of speech’ but how about people understanding that there is a fine line between expressing yourself and writing ridiculous statements online.

And once again, social media has given us a great example of how expressing an opinion can go wrong on so many levels.

A troll abused Arjun Kapoor and called him a rapist, criminal and a creep. Now, do you get what we are talking about? This kind of slander is absolutely not acceptable.

Obviously, this would have made anyone in their right mind rather angry, but Arjun decided to give back to the hater in an eloquent and graceful manner.

A few days ago, while talking to a leading daily, he said, “First of all, social media has no bearing of male or female. It acts as a kick for people, who get pleasure out of hiding behind a keyboard. There is no binary in the trolling happening — males troll females and vice versa. I find it appalling, but that is society. It is shameful, but the reality is that trolling exists. You will never be able to stop it, unfortunately, because that is the power of social media. You can say what you want to and get away with it. This can’t be called a violation, as it’s everyone’s freedom of speech.”

He tweeted out, “This is an all-time low at trolling I feel…a woman, a girl shamelessly and causally using the term rapist isn’t trolling its saddening.”

Isn’t that reply just spot on? The girl has now deleted her tweet, and maybe she realised it was wrong of her to use those words. You can absolutely dislike someone, but please watch what you say in this day and age.

Randomly calling a guy a rapist hurts everyone the same way you casually call a girl a whore or a slut. It’s the same thing, so please stop it!
