Oscar nominee Guillermo del Toro needs no introduction. He is undoubtedly one of the finest directors, a glimpse of which we saw in his latest movie, ‘The Shape of Water’ that acts as a window to del Toro’s incredible world of fantasies and fairy tales for adults. While del Toro is basking in the success of ‘The Shape of Water’, it is only a fraction of the incredible movies he has given us.

After toying with our imagination with his intriguing aquatic monster, del Toro is now low-key gearing up for another kickass sci-fi monster movie, ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’, a sequel to his 2013 movie ‘Pacific Rim’.

The first installment enjoyed a good amount of success in the sci-fi genre back then, and by the looks of the recently released trailer, the sequel too is going to be great as it promises to be bigger and better than the first one. In the first movie, Raleigh’s commanding officer, Stacker Pentecost gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous ‘Kaiju’, a bunch of huge alien sea monsters who invaded the planet from an interdimensional portal called the Breach located at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Fast forward ten years and ‘Kaiju’ aliens have been summoned to earth by someone (with an unknown agenda) and it is now in the hands of Stacker’s son Jake Pentecost, an ex-Jaeger pilot to save the world. ‘Star Wars’ actor John Boyega has been roped in to play Jake, who will take down the Kaiju in a deadly conflict between these sea monsters and the human-piloted super machines. How Jake steps out of the shadow of his father’s legacy and expectations and writes his own victory story weaves the rest of the plot.

The trailer completely lives up to the hype that people were expecting from the ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel and Boyega truly stands out as the baddest action hero of this year.

Trailer highlight: Jake Pentecost’s inspiring speech, which manages to strike the right chords with us; although it doesn’t inch any close to Idris Elba’s iconic ‘Cancelling the apocalypse’ speech in the first one.

The movie is directed by Steven S. DeKnight and also features actors Charlie day, Burn Gorman, Scott Eastwood, Rinko Kikuchi, Cailee Spaeny and Jing Tian. ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ is expected to release on March 23, 2018.
