Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha who was rumoured to be dating sports manager Bunty Sajdeh, is on the lookout for a bae, sparking rumours that she is currently ‘single’

Sonakshi Sinha has been linked with most of her co-stars. Right from Arjun Kapoor to Ranveer Singh and even Shahid Kapoor, back when he was single. However rumour mills were rife with news of Sonakshi Sinha dating Bunty Sajdeh, Seema Khan’s brother. Sonakshi and Bunty were rumoured to be dating for quite a long time and were even supposed to get engaged in February 2017. That is until, the news of their break-up hit the media. Apparently, both had issues with settling down and careers. The duo were spotted on various occassions and Sonakshi is even close to Bunty’s sister and Salman Khan’s bhabhi, Seema Khan. Sonakshi was also present at Bunty’s mother’s 60th birthday celebrations.

Bunty and Sonakshi neither confirmed their relationship nor did they confirm their break-up. The rumoured couple always maintained a stoic silence on the status of their relationship. Recently, Sonakshi shared a picture on her Instagram story wearing a t-shirt with a caption ‘bae watch’. She also captioned her Instagram story saying ‘kidhar hai bae’. Looks like, Sonakshi is definitely on the lookout for a ‘bae’. Guess, that can answer the question of her relationship status.

On the workfront, Sonakshi Sinha will be next seen in ‘Crazy Hum’ opposite Diljeet Dosanjh.

‘Ittefaq’
Director: Abhay Chopra
Actors: Akshaye Khanna, Siddharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha
Rating: 3 stars

It’d take a lot of guts to put together a tight-skinned, song-less mainstream film, starring top A-listers, and to top that, begin the picture with a wholly unrelated, trippy, psychedelic, multi-coloured, rotating animation stinging your eyes in a dark hall for almost three minutes at a stretch, even before the frickin’ opening credits have begun to roll! Wait, what was that for? Well, just!

'Ittefaq'
Sonakshi Sinha and Sidharth Malhotra in  a still from the song ‘Raat Baki’

That, incidentally, was Yash Chopra’s Ittefaq (produced by BR Chopra) from back in 1969, starring Rajesh Khanna (at the peak of his career), no less. This is a fun-fact to bear in mind, for millennials who either unfairly believe Yash Chopra was simply the ‘king of romance’, or that experimentation in popular Hindi cinema began with the late ‘90s brat-pack—Anurag Kashyap, etc—viscerally inclined towards the dark side.

This film, produced by Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, among others, marks the directorial debut of BR Chopra’s grandson, Abhay, and so far as thrillers go, the first thing it gets right is that it packs up in under two hours flat (an hour and 45 minutes, to precise). Which is perfect duration to give the screen your undivided, unwavering attention for a whodunit that otherwise might leave you with more questions than it answers. Before your mind wanders in those directions, you’ve had your fill (of the popcorn and the pic), and you’re good to go.

I’m going to set aside the ItteFAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) you’re likely to have, since that would inevitably mean giving the movie away. Much like Hitchcock’s Psycho, the promotion of this picture itself is pretty much hinged on urging audiences not to reveal the end—it’s the only one they’ve got!

As for the beginning, all you need to know is there’s a cop (Akshaye Khanna, in superb form), looking to solve two murders that ittefaq se, or coincidentally, to the point of disbelief, take place over the same night, and involves one person (Siddharth Malhotra) being present at both crime scenes. The two murders, or if they were even murders in the first place, on the face of it, have nothing to do with each other, except that in one case (a hotel room), a wife is found dead (Malhotra’s), while in the other (a super fancy apartment), a husband (Sonakshi Sinha’s).

Malhotra plays a popular crime-fiction writer, based in the UK. Looking at him, the cop immediately says, “Hey, but you don’t look like a writer.” Well he doesn’t, but then again, who does? He’s a quiet sort of bloke though, at the centre of a murder mystery that, as per diktat, has to be solved in three days, no more. Which is as long as this film needs to pack audiences in theatres and walk away with a hit. Does this movie hit you in the way it should though? Honestly, you wish it wasn’t so overtly production-designed, even sanitized—and there was more ‘Mumbai’ in a movie so ‘Bombay’—for a grimy thriller. But it keeps you thoroughly glued to your seat, and that, for a pay-off, is pretty much worth whatever you paid for.

Thankfully I don’t remember Yash Chopra’s Ittefaq that this is a remake of (poor memory has its benefits). It’s available on YouTube (I rightly stopped right after the pre-movie psychedelia!). It was evidently inspired by a Guajarati play Dhoommas, which in turn was based on the play Signpost To Murder, that had already been made into a film by the same name. Given the number of hands the first script has passed, with sufficient changes made each time (I’m told, in the beginning, there was only one murder, instead of two), it’d be fair to consider this a fully original version by now!

I also don’t remember the last time I watched a full-on, no-nonsense, whodunit Hindi mainstream murder mystery in a theatre, with no way to talk about it but to urge you to see it, because that’s the only way we can discuss it any further. I think you should check it out, just so we can take this conversation offline, to start with!

‘Judwaa 2’
Director: David Dhawan
Cast: Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Taapsee Pannu
Rating:

David Dhawan’s films have the same brief – give the audience’s brain some downtime. Anything is possible in his world. One of the supporting characters insists the music notes go, Sa Re Ga Ma Amitabh. Big B did Pa, get it? Another one wonders aloud: Are Einstein and Valentine related? Okay, then. There’s a passport agent who feels he should deal with Aadhar cards for better business, while another asks: Ab ki baar kiski sarkar? It’s okay to be politically incorrect to raise the guffaws. The makers are not looking for logic, nor do they claim to, it’s only harmless fun.

As Dhawan reboots his Salman Khan-starrer with son Varun two decades later, he relies heavily on the original rather than weaving in some freshness. So, you have the Timid Twin and the Turbulent Twin separated at birth by the villain. One grows up in London, the other in Mumbai. It does not take long for the latter, who also has a sidekick with a speech impairment, to wing his way to the Queen’s city. Nor does it take time for the twins to find their respective ladylove there. Enter two Ms Hot Pants to prance around with, in some exotic locales.

Varun continues his Main Tera Hero (2014) act. He can mimic B-Town’s leading men, make you laugh, cry and everything in between. It’s clear he wants to give it his all, doing what he loves to do: entertain the masses, even though he is two times over.

The writer duo, Sajid-Farhad, known for penning comedies like Golmaal Returns (2008), All The Best: Fun Begins (2009), Housefull 2 (2012), have simply woven a lot of gags together to pass it off as a story. They even make turn a moongphali into a Baahubali when not pondering about Big Ben’s small sister. To give credit where it’s due, there was a lot of cackling in the auditorium every now and then. But the question is, for how long can you bear the double dose of nonsensical onslaught? It’s funny in parts, but meanders in the second half. As one of the tracks goes: Chalti hai kya nau se barah? It’s your call.

Recently, it was reported that Sonakshi Sinha was upset when her seat on a reality show was occupied by co-judge Shekhar Ravjiani.

A source says that Ravjiani was given the centre seat prior to Sinha’s arrival. “Sonakshi was not aware if it. When she entered and saw Shekhar seated in the centre, she asked for the seat, and he obliged,” says the source.

Given that the fashion police is usually up in arms against Tinsel town celebrities, particularly during awards galas, it was unusual, bold even, for Sonakshi Sinha to sport a multi-coloured floral nine-yard for the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) in New York earlier this year.

Sinha received flak for her unusual outfit until it was later revealed by a celebrity photographer that the look was part of her upcoming Vashu Bhagnani project, based on the coveted awards night. Responding to the criticism, Sinha tells mid-day, “There was a lot of confusion over my outfits, because, one was for the shoot and the other was what I chose for the event.

When people will watch the film, it will make sense.” The IIFA film, believed to be India’s first staged reality film, pairs Sinha alongside Diljit Dosanjh. Sinha says she couldn’t refuse the film owing to her long-standing association with IIFA organisers, Wizcraft. “Also, the concept is interesting, yet borderline bizarre. Nobody knew that an actual film was being shot live on the green carpet. It was funny as fans were calling out to us and we couldn’t react because we were in character.”

We know the idea of watching Sonakshi Sinha and Ramdev Baba is pretty interesting and fascinating. Well, the first thought that comes to our mind is that what are these two collaborating for? Is Ramdev Baba making his debut as an actor? Or is Sonakshi Sinha getting ready to learn Yoga?

It’s none of that; as per reports the two will be seen wearing the hat of a judge for an upcoming reality show. You might think it’s just a random show, but boy this is something new and will leave you stunned!

The duo is coming in a show named ‘Om Shanti Om’ which will air on Life Ok. As the name suggests, it’s a bhajan talent competition. The makers have planned to focus the show on bhajans where the contestants will give it a new peg. Putting it simply, it’s recreating those religious songs all over again. It’s like hearing ‘Shera Wali Mata’ track on ‘DJ Wale Babu’ background score.

Or if not something like this, get ready to hear something definitely around these lines.

Yes, that’s something new…..though we don’t know whether we love the idea or hate it!

Singer Kanika Kapoor and music director and singer Shekhar Ravjiani will also be seen judging the contestants. And guess who will be the guest for the first episode? None other than Ranveer Singh.

It’s a known fact that the actor shares a great rapport with baba and we wouldn’t be surprised if these two dance to some bhajans as well!

Sonakshi Sinha, who has stepped in for the sequel of Happy Bhaag Jayegi (2016), will play the runaway bride crossing into China. The film’s first outing had Diana Penty make her way to Pakistan. The makers want to set the story in another neighbouring country for the second outing.

Sona was to shoot for Force 2 (2016) in China, but the makers were unable to procure permission then. Let’s see if the Happy Bhaag Jayegi 2 unit manages to shoot in China.

Sonakshi Sinha may not have commented on her fashion faux pas at the IIFA green carpet after Twitterati trolled her for her multi-coloured saree, but the actress has made her displeasure evident to her stylist.

Apparently, Sona had a long discussion with her stylist post the incident. The actor has taken several years to establish that her sartorial choices are noteworthy, and she clearly doesn’t want to take a chance with her attires.

Rumour has it, the actor’s turn was not part of the event, but was her look for Wizcraft’s upcoming film based on the IIFA.
