Shahid Kapoor met the media persons at a recent award function and gave some deets about the controversy-laden film ‘Padmavati’. The film is currently with the CBFC for certification

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum-opus historical drama, ‘Padmavati‘, which was scheduled to release on December 1, 2017, got caught in a political storm, thus delaying its release. The film features Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singhas Sultan Alauddin Khilji. The film’s release was opposed by fringe groups on the accusation of distorting historical facts. Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was even mobbed on the film’s set and dismantled the sets. A delay from the filmmaker’s end to submit the movie to CBFC for certification further brought obstacles in the film’s release. The film is currently with the Central Board of Certification (CBFC) and there is constant speculation about its release.

When the film’s cast Shahid Kapoor met the media at a recent award function, he sounded hopeful that the film would get its final release date in the coming 10 days. The actor said, “I am sure we will have clarity by the end of this year about when the film is releasing but we want it to release as soon as possible.” He was also asked if the controversy has affected him or his career in any way, to which he said that 2017 has been a great year for him and credited Bhansali for it.

“It has been a great year. Of course, there has been the whole controversy around Padmavati, but it is such a special film. When I look back at this year, it has been one of the most exciting years in my career. To be doing Padmavati, which I really believe is going to be a historic and memorable film. That’s how I feel about the film. I am very happy with this year. The wait is killing me. I am dying for the film to come out,” said Shahid.

In his upcoming directorial venture “83”, which is based on India’s first Cricket World Cup win in 1983, filmmaker Kabir Khan says his attempt is to let Ranveer Singh adapt the persona of veteran cricketer Kapil Dev, yet retain his identity

In his upcoming directorial venture “83”, which is based on India’s first Cricket World Cup win in 1983, filmmaker Kabir Khan says his attempt is to let Ranveer Singh adapt the persona of veteran cricketer Kapil Dev, yet retain his identity.

Underdog India outclassed mighty West Indies by 43 runs in the final played at the Lord’s on June 25, 1983 to lift their maiden World Cup under Dev’s leadership. “Audience knows he is Ranveer and he is going to play the role of Kapil Dev in the film. Today, there is technology to make Ranveer look exactly like him, but that is not the attempt.

“He needs to get the persona of Dev and yet retain his identity as Ranveer. We want the audience to see and enjoy Ranveer playing Dev,” Kabir told PTI in an interview. He said Ranveer has already begun preparations for his role in the film.

“It is a simple brief to Ranveer. He just has to see Kapil Dev playing the game. The iconic body language of Kapil Dev, the way he used to bowl, bat. He (Dev) is monitoring it (training),” he added.

Kabir said the members of the 1983 World Cup team are set to supervise and coach the rest of the actors. Several members of the 1983 World Cup winning team, including manager Man Singh, were present at a function when the director announced the project.

The team members such as Roger Binny, K Srikkanth, Madan Lal, Yashpal Sharma, Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Sandeep Patil had narrated some anecdotes dating back to the historic day. Kabir added he would not need to take “cinematic liberities” during the filming as, “there is lot of material, we have hours and hours of sessions with the cricketers (the players), so it is a gold mine of material.”

The “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” helmer said the team would be majorly shot in London and they have the support of cricket authorities like the ICC and BCCI. “We will be shooting mostly in London, the whole story is what happened in London. We can’t shoot for seven-eight days at Lord’s, it is not possible. But we do have the permission in place to shoot there.

“The whole cricket community from all over the world, whether it is the ICC or BCCI is helping. It is such a celebratory story about cricket that any cricketing body would like to support it,” Kabir said. The makers are yet to rope in actors who would essay the role of other team members.

Casting director Mukesh Chhabra is currently busy scouting for talent. “We are casting not only for the Indian team but West Indies as well. We have to cast for Sir Viv Richards and all the greats. So, there will be lot of foreign actors.

“There is no leading lady as such in the normal way that we look at Indian cinema. It is a true story about a team, so obviously their wives will be there, they are central characters,” he said.

We noticed an uncanny similarity between Ranveer Singh’s cop look in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming film Simmba and Anil Kapoor’s 1994 film Mr Azaad – the twirled moustache. Ranveer is a fan of Mr Jhakaas and the two seem to believe in Big B’s iconic line from Sharaabi (1984) – moochein ho toh Nathulal jaise ho, warna na ho.

They are the most talked about pair in tinsel town and we don’t need to tell you why. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are the ‘IT’ couple. Even though the two have never openly spoken about their relationship, the way they keep talking about each other and are spotted around itself defines their relationship.

With time, they have grown in many ways and we often see the two showcasing their love and care that they feel towards each other, even on social media now. Be it liking or commenting on each other’s pictures or displaying their crackling chemistry, they are always giving us some or the other relationship goals.

Just recently, Deepika graced Shah Rukh Khan’s show ‘Baatein With The Badshaah’. King Khan played a video clip where Ranveer Singh was seen singing ‘ek ladki ko dekha to aisa laga’. Deepika couldn’t help but was smile ear to ear looking at this loving gesture from her man.

Well, that was just one thing, but he also shared a beautiful message that made the diva blush.

Ranveer said, “Mandir mein ho ek jalta diya, diya, yaani ke Deepika, yaani ke aap. Aapke baare mein kya kahun? Jis tareeke se aap, apne karoron chahne waalon ke dilon me ujaala ban ke aayi, meri zindagi mein ujala ban ke aayi. Mai upar wale se yahi dua karunga ki aapki bhi zindagi me ujala barkaraar rahe, humesha humesha ke liye. (There’s nobody like you! God bless you and love you lots!” What should I say about you? You are like a glowing ray of light, you bring light into my life, I pray to god that this light remains in your life as well).”

This video has been going viral around the social media and people can’t help but admire Ranveer’s love and affection for Deepika even more.

In fact in an interview by Filmfare, when Deepika was asked about what is the best thing when in Ranveer’s company she said, “When we’re with each other, we don’t need anything or anyone else. We’re comfortable in each other’s presence. Sometimes it’s intelligent conversation, sometimes just silence, sometimes there’s a childlike innocence. We keep each other grounded. We are good in that sense.”

It was supposed to be a routine launch of a sports merchandise store in Santacruz that Ranveer Singh had been invited to yesterday. But with the controversy surrounding his upcoming film, Padmavati, the actor had to take police protection to step out of the store. He didn’t disappoint the media, though, and took position atop his car to answer their questions.

Ranveer Singh, one of the three lead actors of Padmavati, on Tuesday said he stands by the movie and its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali 200 per cent amidst the ongoing controversy over its alleged content. “I am 200 percent with the film and I stand by it as well as Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Given that it is very sensitive time right now, I have been specifically asked not to say anything. Whatever official communication with regards to the film needs to be made, you will receive it from the producers,” Ranveer told the media in Mumbai.

The actor was wary of talking about the movie as he was present at the launch of Adidas Original’s first ‘Fashion Destination Door’ format store here. Before any further questions could be put on “Padmavati”, Ranveer told the media: “Thank you very much for coming out today and before some ruckus happens here, I need to get out of here.”

The actor plays Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji in the movie, which Bhansali says is a tribute to the valour of Rajput queen Padmavati. The film is in the eye of a storm following protests from conservative groups over alleged tampering of historical facts — a contention Bhansali has denied repeatedly. The release of the film, which was earlier slated for December 1, has been deferred as the filmmakers are yet to secure a censor certificate. Ranveer, otherwise, appeared joyous as he launched the new store for the brand which he represents in India.

The lead actors of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati – Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh – have been given special security by the Mumbai police after the fringe group, Rajput Karni Sena, threatened Padukone with physical harm on Thursday. Members of the group threatened to “chop her nose”.

Deven Bharti, joint commissioner of police (Law and Order) told mid-day, “Mumbai police does not interfere with protest which is conducted in a democratic manner. Any individual or group which attempts to be adventurous, will be dealt with sternly and will face strict legal action. We assure them that we will not allow miscreants to create any problem and they can indulge in their routine activities without any fear.”

Social media has become the hotbed for controversies these days and Bollywood celebrities are at their vulnerable most, on social media. Right from being shamed for wearing inappropriate clothes to being called out for their personal/political views. However, the film ‘Padmavati’ seems to be on the receiving end of the incessant trolling and bashing ever since its inception. There has been a lot of discussion and contention over the portrayal of Queen ‘Padmavati’ and Sultan Allaudin Khilji.

While, Bhansali has clarified time and again that there is no interaction between Khilji and Padmavati, some fringe outfits still want a ban on the film. There was a lot of flak received from the liberal side also, over the portrayal of ‘Khilji’ who is shown as a megalomaniac.

The filmmakers, however, stick to their stand that the movie is based on the poem ‘Padmavat’, written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. Ranveer Singh, who went out of his way to portray ‘Allaudin Khilji’is getting trolled on social media for posting an image of himself with the caption, ‘Losing My Religion’. The caption is inspired by the lyrics of an iconic song ‘ Losing My Religion’ by the popular American rock-band from the 80s, ‘REM’. Here are some of the hilarious tweets which Ranveer received, after he posted the tweet.
