Jab Harry Met Sejal tickets sold for Rs 2,400 at this theatre

JHMS-e-lIt’s not an uncommon practice to raise the prices of tickets when a film, headlined by big stars, is gearing up for release. However, if you thought that it deterred the audience from flocking to the theatres, you couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Sample this: A ticket of Shah Rukh Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal, which releases today, has been priced at Rs 2,400 at PVR Director’s Cut in Delhi.

A quick online check will tell you that the amount is almost equivalent to a one-way air ticket from Mumbai to Goa.

But, looks like no price is too steep for Khan’s fans. The Imtiaz Ali-directed film saw a huge demand in advance booking at this theatre in Delhi. As a result, the love story raked in a whopping Rs 12,15,600 from this screen alone, even before it hit the marquee. At Rs 12.15 lakh, the movie has already matched the lifetime collections of indie films.

The situation isn’t too different in Mumbai either — another stronghold of Khan. A VIP/Gold Class ticket at PVR Icon in Versova has been priced at a cool Rs 1500.

Ask trade analyst Amod Mehra what drives the audience to pay such a high price to watch a movie and he reasons, “There haven’t been any good films in the recent past, which would have motivated the audience to spend money. So, people who have the money will not mind spending a huge amount on this one.”

Projects starring any one of the Khan trio — Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh — are mounted on huge budgets. No wonder then, the tickets rates shoot up during their film’s release.

However, Mehra points out that it is the distributors and not the producers, who are to be blamed for the hike. “The production cost of a film like Jab Harry Met Sejal is really high. So, to recover that cost, distributors tend to increase the rates.”

He cautions that it may not necessarily be a smart strategy. “On the contrary, I feel if they reduce the price, it will work as an advantage and will lure more people to watch the film.”

Another trade exhibitor, on the condition of anonymity, says, “Rs 2400 plus food and conveyance is really high. But then, the advance booking shows that people who wish to spend so much, have bought the tickets. I can get a premium membership of Netflix at the same price and watch so much of content. In the end, it’s all about what you choose.”

Popular Kannada actress Sanjjanaa Galrani, whose nude video from film ‘Dandupalya 2’ leaked online, claims the clip has been morphed.

Sanjjanaa took to Twitter to release a statement. She wrote, “I will not shoot 100 percent nude even if it is a James Bond film, coming in from strong Indian culture I keep in mind my limitations.”

‘Dandupalya 2’ team has denied the video leak being a publicity stunt

The clip is a scene from the film that shows the heroine being stripped by a police officer played by actor P Ravishankar.

The controversial sequence, however, has been deleted from the final cut of the movie after Regional Censor Board objected to it. The movie released last Friday in some parts of India. 

Questions were raised if this was yet another publicity stunt. But ‘Dandupalya 2’ team has denied it being a promotional gimmick. Sanjjanaa has said that the film is already doing well at the box office and doesn’t need a promotional stunt.

The team is clueless as to how the deleted scene made its way online.

While speaking to Times of India, Sanjjanaa said, “Yes. I shot for it, but I was not nude. I have pictures that show my body parts covered up with a towel that were clicked in my caravan. What is eventually seen in the film is the result of computer colour grading, which was made to show the scene in that fashion.”

“My character, Chandri, is a victim of sexual abuse in this scene, so this was meant to showcase that. I am appalled at how the scene has been circulated by people and has been shown repeatedly on media platforms. It shocks me that people want to share content like this among themselves,” she told the newspaper.

“I thought it would be shot aesthetically, but the way it has been picturised is downright vulgar. The fault is in the making. It might have been shot like that keeping the mass audience in mind,” added Sanjjanaa.

Before being dragged into this controversy, the actress made headlines for the wrong reasons. Sanjjanaa was at loggerheads with the makers of the film for apparently cutting down her role in the movie and giving more importance to Pooja Gandhi. She ended up boycotting the movie promotions.

The film also stars Makarand Deshpande and Ravi Kale.

The Kannada film is a sequel to 2012 movie ‘Dandupalya’ and revolves around a criminal gang from Dandupalya, a place near Hoskote in Bengaluru. The gang had forced the makers to change the title of the film to ‘2’ from ‘Dandupalya 2’. 

‘Dandupalya 3’ is set for August release.

Priyanka Chopra can be seen with her co-star Adam DeVine in the clip. In the scene, Priyanka Chopra is seen to be ‘choking’ and is saved by Adam DeVine who gives her the heimlich, a first aid procedure.

PeeCee began shooting for her third Hollywood outing yesterday.

Production has begun on Priyanka Chopra’s next Hollywood project after Baywatch and A Kid Like Jake, for which PeeCee is currently shooting in New York. The film titled, Isn’t It Romantic?, stars Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth.

New Line Cinema announced the start of principal photography for the romantic comedy, being directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson.

Priyanka Chopra will be seen in the role of yoga ambassador while Wilson will play an architect from New York City, who works hard to get noticed at her job, but is more likely to be asked to deliver coffee and bagels than design skyscrapers. Hemsworth stars as a handsome client with Adam Devine as Wilson’s best friend.

Strauss-Schulson is directing the project from a screenplay by Erin Cardillo, Dana Fox, Katie Silberman, and Paula Pell.
The film is set for a 2019 Valentine’s Day release.

CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani wants ‘intercourse’ word removed from Jab Harry Met Sejal trailer

srk-anushka-trailer-newCentral Board of Film Certification chief Pahlaj Nihalani has pulled out his scissors yet again, with Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming comedy, Jab Harry Met Sejal becoming his latest muse.

Nihalani has objected to the use of the word ‘intercourse’ in the film, which features in the second trailer released on the internet on Monday. While airing the trailer online wasn’t a concern, that the uncensored version has been screening on television has upset Nihalani.

Talking to mid-day, he reasoned, “The trailer has to be played on television. Many children follow Shah Rukh Khan. They will watch the trailer and want to know the meaning of the word. The word intercourse has to go if the makers of the film want a UA certificate, which allows them to play the trailer on television.”

Should director Imtiaz Ali choose to retain the word, he will have to accept an A certification, Nihalani said. “Then, it cannot be played on television. They (the makers) will have to make the choice.”
