Madhu Chopra with daughter PriyankaMadhu Chopra with daughter Priyanka

After impressing Marathi film audience and bagging three National Awards, Priyanka Chopra’s production, Ventilator (2016) is set to find a wider audience. The Rajesh Mapuskar-directed comedy-drama is being adapted into a Gujarati play.

Confirming the news to mid-day, the actor’s mother Madhu Chopra, who heads their production house, says, “It’s a rare occasion where a film is being adapted into a play. The film made us proud on the national level and I hope people shower the same love towards it when it comes on stage.”

The play will be helmed by acclaimed theatre director Rajesh Joshi, the man behind Code Mantra — one of the costliest productions on Gujarati stage. Chopra adds that Joshi is an apt choice as he shares similar sensibilities.

“We’re glad that he is making it because he knows what he wants. Joshi is not making any changes to the script, he’s simply adapting it to suit the sensibilities of the Gujarati audience. I have read a few scenes and they have been written well.”

She also reveals that Mapuskar is collaborating on the play as a creative consultant. “With him on board, Priyanka and I know that it is in safe hands,” she smiles.

The play is tentatively scheduled to open early November.

Tamannaah BhatiaTamannaah Bhatia

Last November, Tamannaah Bhatia had been finalised for the Tamil remake of Kangana Ranaut-starrer ‘Queen’ (2014). In an interview with mid-day, she had said she’d like tips from the National Award-winning actress to prep for the role. However, it seems the project has been sent to the cold storage.

“We were supposed to do that film, but it’s not happening anymore. The reason is unknown to me, but I know it’s shelved,” Tamannaah says on the sidelines of ‘Baahubali 2’ promotions.

Like most fans of the war-drama franchise, the actress too is excited about the release of Bahubali: The Conclusion, which will finally unlock the mystery behind the question: Kattappa ne Bahubali ko kyun maara? “The first part will be re-releasing soon, and that’s a first for me.”

Post Bahubali (2015), Tamannaah adds, filmmakers are looking at her in a different light. “I am getting better offers since directors feel that I am versatile and can be more than just a girl next door. I am also consciously trying not to be repetitive.”

Ask her if she thinks she will get another film as big as Bahubali in future and she says, “This film happened to me after I went through a lean phase in my career with films like Himmatwala (2013), Humshakals (2014) and Entertainment (2015). So, I think my reality is way better than my imagination, but I still hope that many more Bahubalis happen in my life.”

Rajkummar RaoRajkummar Rao

National Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao is a talent powerhouse, who goes the extra mile to do justice to his roles. He admits that his upcoming film, ‘Trapped’, was a physically exhausting project. In fact, Rajkummar got injured on shoot.

“I had to pull something off with great effort in a scene. In the second take, I exerted more pressure than required and that resulted in a severe muscle pull.”

However, the real-life incident seemed so visually appealing to director Vikramaditya Motwane that he decided to retain it in the film.

Despite being in pain, the actor continued shooting so that the scene would look authentic.

“I saw a doctor later that day, popped medicines and continued shooting. I survived on painkillers for two days,” recalls Rajkummar.
