After seeing a downfall, India’s favourite funny man Kapil Sharma is now on the road to reformation. He agrees that it will be a tough ride to regain his lost glory, but one that he is determined to make. Sharma has already taken the first step – the comedian reveals that he has buried the hatchet with his long-time friend and The Kapil Sharma Show co-star, Sunil Grover. The two had a bitter fallout in March this year amidst rumours that the comedian had hurled a shoe at Grover on a flight.

But it’s all in the past now. Sharma hints at a reunion as he says, “Sunil and I haven’t met in a long time, but we chat over messages. He is currently in Canada. As soon as he returns, we will meet up and discuss the possibility of a new show. Hopefully, we should be back together. The rest of the cast members are also ready to come on board.”

Sharma agrees that the past incidents took a toll on their friendship. “When he had left the show earlier [to pursue his own show, Mad In India], I had dissuaded him from leaving us. This time too, I was sad that our issue had become so big that it had started affecting our friendship. I tried explaining to him that everyone makes mistakes and I too had committed one. But he wouldn’t have any of it.”

Probe him on the abrupt decision to pull The Kapil Sharma Show off air and he reasons, “The channel [officials] didn’t ask me to go off air. It was a mutual decision between us as I thought we needed to take a break. Also, I felt a lot was written on the controversy that happened.” While a new show is on the cards, Sharma, at the moment, is looking forward to his Bollywood project, Firangi. He hopes the audience showers as much love on him in his big screen endeavour too. “We have usually seen emotional dramas on Partition. But Firangi is a satire on it. It is a situational humour which I hope people will appreciate.”

Maryam Zakaria, who had wowed many with her dance moves in Dil mera muft ka (Agent Vinod, 2012), is back with a special number in Kapil Sharma-starrer Firangi.

Excited about the track, she says, “I have not done a song like this before. With Chinni Prakash as the choreographer, I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the number. It has a 1920’s set-up and my look is designed accordingly. The song is an important part of the narrative.”

Ace comic actor Kapil Sharma has quite often been alleged to have a drinking issue, which is also indirectly blamed for the downfall of his once famous show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show.’ During the trailer launch of his upcoming film ‘Firangi’, Kapil candidly spoke about the problem.

‘I cancelled a lot of programmes; like recently I cancelled a programme for the BSF in Delhi. I really wanted to do a show for soldiers like this. When I started my show, I went to the Wagah border,’ the comedian told the media. ‘I got to realise that I drink everyday to escape my problems. So I have decided to reduce it,’ he added.

The stand-up comedian further said, ‘Now, I feel a bit happy by coming in front of you all and also opening about my problems.” Kapil added that his mother was not informed about the cancellation of his show and controversies surrounding it. ‘My mother was not informed about the issue. She was told that there was a strike, due to which the shoot was cancelled. She’s too innocent, but later on, she came to know about the whole incident,’ he said.

The ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’ actor also revealed that there is no bad blood between him and co-star Sunil Grover despite of the infamous mid-air fight between them. He even said that he had called Grover for the launch of his new movie but the actor is currently out of the country busy with another show in Canada.

‘Firangi’ is an upcoming historical period drama film set in the year 1920 and is directed by Rajiev Dhingra. Apart from Kapil, the cast includes Ishita Dutta and Monica Gill. It is slated to release on November 24, 2017.

The pre-independence era and British rule was possibly one of the toughest times to live in. On one hand where people’s hearts were burning with raging revolt and unparalled love for their country, the British were going to extreme lengths to crush that mutiny under their feet. While, our freedom fighters fought with their blood, sweat and tears; we don’t think there was anyone who openly dared to kick the Britishers in their ass. But, our beloved Kapil Sharma did exactly that and instead of getting killed, he got himself a job under a British officer (someone who was kicked by him). This is the premise of Sharma’s upcoming movie ‘Firangi’, which is in reality as desi as one can expect it to be.

Instead of tickling your funny bones, Sharma will actually be seen in a different avatar. He plays a young man who feels that British aren’t bad people. He eventually falls in love with a girl but things backfire when the whole village turns against him thinking he is a traitor working for the British and try to kill him. How will he prove his innocence and convince the villagers and his lover about Britishers not being bad, weaves the rest of the plot.

The trailer packs a lot of funny, intense and romantic moments, which makes this movie a complete entertainer and with Kapil being at the center of this film, you can be ensured that you won’t get bored while watching it. The movie is directed by Rajiev Dhingra and stars Ishita Dutta as his love interest. This film also marks Kapil’s foray into production. From playing comedy roles, romancing multiple women at a time to playing a serious role like this, Kapil has come a long way in Bollywood and we don’t think there’s anything that’s stopping him.

The movie is slated to release on November 24.
