What made this award a fair and pleasant watch was the fact that unlike the previous award shows where Varun Dhawan won the Best Actor award for ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya’, over Irrfan Khan and Rajkummar Rao and ‘Golmaal Again’ took home the award for Best Film, Filmfare critics took the other road, making some equitable choices.

“I have no hesitation or embarrassment in discussing any kind of relationship with Babil, even if it is sexual. Every parent knows that it is difficult to communicate with their children because they have a mind of their own. It is better to have a friendly relationship with them,” says the actor.

On Friday, the trailer of Irrfan Khan and Malayalam beauty Parvathy Menon’s rom-com film ‘Qarib Qarib Singlle’ was launched amidst much fanfare at a suburban multiplex. Irrfan and Parvathy’s characters are as quirky as the film’s title and they were at their casual best at the trailer launch.

The Hindi film industry is seeing a drastic downfall in earning good reviews and collections at the Box Office, whereas content-driven films are at par with the reviews and its collections. Irrfan is one such actor, who delivers critically as well as commercially driven films, with the recent one being ‘Hindi Medium’. When the actor was quizzed about the drastic change in the scenario and content being the king, this is what the prodigious actor said.

“The audience has evolved and welcomed the change a long time ago. The change has already started. Footfalls in the main Hindi films have ended. People want to relate themselves with what they are watching. Audience shifts to watching Hollywood films or either regional films. They do not connect with these films. I want to be a part of films, wherein the people can keep talking about it even after watching the film.”

He even cited it as examples being of Rajkummar Rao’s recent released films, which was commercially and critically equally acclaimed.

“Recently, Rajkummar Rao’s content-driven films have done exceeding well. Nobody thought it would do such a kind of a business,” reiterated the ‘Hindi Medium’ actor.

Also, an elated Parvathy said that she was immediately hooked up to the film by hearing its genre ‘rom-com’. It was after reading the script she learned that she had to star opposite the phenomenal Irrfan Khan.

The new-age light-hearted film is slated to release on November 10.

Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan had been guarding his look in Karwan and even resorting to wearing surgical masks. Now that he has started shooting for Akarsh Khurana’s film, leaked snapshots from the set tell a different story. Khan looks like he normally does. So, what exactly was the actor hiding? The film also stars Malayalam actor Dulquer Salman.

To make a great film all you need is a great story and cast. And despite having a great script if you pick up a wrong cast and vice versa, your film is bound to tank at the box office.

2017 hasn’t been a great year for Bollywood with so many films failing despite big star cast. But looks like someone has just announced the cast of the year and we totally love the idea of seeing them sharing screen space together.

Well, you ain’t really a millennial if you don’t know who Mithila Palkar is. She is one of the most influential and favourite internet beings. From presenting the traditional Marathi folk song with cup beats to entertaining us in web series like Little Things and Girl In The City, she is one hell of an entertainer. And finally, she is all set to rock the silver-screen as well. We ain’t kidding, she has signed a film and we are too excited.

Thank you for this amazing feature @rollingstonein ! 👗 @pepejeansindia 📸 @juietakesphotos

She also did a Marathi film opposite Amey Wagh, Muramba and now she will be seen with none other than Irrfan Khan. Isn’t that great? Well, that’s not it, making his debut in the same film will be Malayalam super star Dulquer Salmaan.

Thank you Behindwoods for my Best Actor Critics award ! Feels epic to win a Gold Medal ! Was a lovely event and I had a blast. Always great catching up with friends from both Malayalam and Tamil industries. A big thanks to my buddy @osmanabdulrazak for my perfectly tailored suit and of course @kalyanidesai for styling me ! #behindwoods #awards #suited #walkingtheramp #feltspiffy #smance #worepinkforprincess #babyboo #suddenloveforpink #daddycool

Now doesn’t that really sound like a great cast and we just wonder what the script might be. After all these three together, the film already shouts ‘hit-hit-hit’. We already have very high hopes from the movie.

The film will also mark the directorial debut for Akarsh Khurana and will be produced by Ronnie Screwala.

Mithila also shared a post on Instagram and wrote, “Living the Bollywood Dream alongside these supremely talented superstars.”

Big props to those who created this post. Thank you! Living the Bollywood Dream alongside these supremely talented superstars @dqsalmaan @irrfan ! Big hug and pappi to @akvarious ………….. DULQUER SALMAAN TO MAKE HIS BOLLYWOOD DEBUT :)) #DulQuer will debut alongside Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar in Ronnie Screwvala’s yet-untitled production. The film marks the directorial debut of #AkarshKhurana , who has co-written the script with Hussain Dalal, the dialogue writer for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and 2 States #Bollywood #DulQuer #mipalkarofficial #irffankhan #dulquer #dulquersalmaan

When asked about the casting Akarsh Khurana told TOI, “I have been following Dulquer for a while after Mani Ratnam’s O Kadhal Kanmani. And I really loved his movie, Charlie. He has showcased a fantabulous performance in it. Then I watched his movies, Bangalore days, Kammattipaadam and so on…He is the perfect cast for the movie.”

And here’s what he has to say about the characters, “The characters are from different walks of life who come together at one juncture of their lives.”

The Hindi film industry is home to a vast amount of talent, but most of its talented actors are often not given the right kind of fame that they deserve. While some actors have more than their fair share of accolades and adulation, most of the talented thespians are often relegated to the shadows. A mediocre film with huge star power will see huge box office collections, but films with an extremely good storyline and amazing actors hardly ever get a big release and fades away from public memory quite fast.

But, for when you have had enough of the so-called “talented” stars of Bollywood, do give the films made by these offbeat non-commercial actors a look to genuinely appreciate good cinema being made.

1. Abhay Deol

He doesn’t shy away from speaking his mind, and the characters he has played on-screen prove that. While he may have been a part of commercially successful films such as ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara’ and ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’, Abhay Deol is one actor who never got his due. His debut film ‘Socha Na Tha’ was a class apart and so have many of his other films been such as ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local’, ‘Manorama Six Feet Under’, and ‘Ahista Ahista’. Watch his films when you want to understand the depths to which actors can go to look convincing.

2. Radhika Apte

This pretty actress is truly an unconventional heroine and takes on roles that require her to be more than just a pretty face and supporting actor. She started her career with a small role in the fantasy film, ‘Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!’ in 2005 and then went on to deliver phenomenal hits such as ‘Rakta Charitra’and ‘Shor In The City’. While she may not have found success in Bollywood, she went on to deliver good projects in various regional language films, such as Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, and Telegu. She has even tried her luck in theatre and various short films. So, when you feel like watching good cinema that is high on quality, do watch Radhika’s short film ‘Kriti’ and ‘Ahalya’.

3. Kalki Koechlin

Who can forget Kalki’s tomboyish avatar Aditi in the film ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and as Lisa in ‘Ek Thi Daayan’? While these films attained commercial success, many of Kalki’s other films did not get the attention they deserved as they did not have the star power required to make them commercial hits. Do watch Kalki’s amazing performances in ‘Margarita With A Straw’, ‘That Girl In Yellow Boots’, ‘A Death In The Gunj’, ‘I Am’, and ‘Waiting’ to understand the depth of her performances. Apart from acting in films, Kalki is also a part of various stage plays and is known to voice her opinions strongly for any cause that she feels about.

4. Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan is probably the most underrated actor in the Hindi film industry. He has given some mind-blowing performances in movies such as ‘The Lunchbox’, ‘Hindi Medium’, ‘Paan Singh Tomar’, ‘Maqbool’, and ‘Haasil’, to name a few. He has also been a part of various international projects such as ‘Life Of Pi’, ‘Inferno’, ‘Jurassic Park’, and ‘The Namesake’. While his acting is no doubt excellent, Bollywood has failed to recognize his talents and he is often relegated to the roles of a supporting actor or when he is the male lead, the film fails to garner much support and is not a major hit. If you want to know the powerhouse of talent that is Irrfan Khan, do watch his films such as ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’, ‘Talvaar’, and ‘Madaari’.

5. Nawazuddin Siddiqui

He is the dark horse of the Indian film industry, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui has proven himself time and again. With films such as ‘Raman Raghav 2.0′, ‘Freaky Ali’, ‘Manjhi: The Mountain Man’, and ‘Haraamkhor’ to his credit, he is a force to be reckoned with. He is a powerhouse performer and his acting prowess is unmatched. In films like ‘Raees’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Badlapur’, ‘Mom’, and ‘Talaash’, when he has been cast alongside famous actors, he has proven his mettle and outshone them.

Offbeat Bollywood Actors© Facebook

6. Swara Bhaskar

Swara Bhaskar achieved commercial success after a string of failures with movies such as ‘Madholal Keep Walking’ and ‘The Untitled Kartik Krishnan Project’ when she played supporting roles in films like ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, ‘Raanjhanaa’, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, and ‘Listen… Amaya’. When her solo hits ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ and ‘Anaarkali of Aarah’ did well on the box-office, it was then that critics stood up and took notice of her. However, she is yet to make it to the list of Bollywood’s A-listers. But, we do not see her complaining and she has been known to take a stance for important issues and is not one to back down from any controversies.

While these actors may have started out small, they are in no way behind the stars of today and have their own fan following, who religiously watch all their films.
