If you ever felt that you are falling short of reasons to look forward to the remaining months of 2017, Bollywood has sorted things out for you with a ‘killer’ line-up of movies. And the torch-bearer of these awesome releases is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’. Even before its release, the movie has been turning several heads and how. First, it was the controversy around the movie’s plot and the film sets being vandalized, and then things took a lighter turn when we saw how striking Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor will look in the movie as goddess queen Rani Padmini, and fierce and undefeated Maharawal Ratan Singh. We are already gasping for air after looking at the two.

With kohl eyes and a cold deadly stare, long tresses and a scar on his face; Ranveer Singh looks like a badass, making it harder to wait for the release.

Bhansali is known for his larger than life movies, which are filled with grandeur and opulence and this magnum-opus promises to tick all those boxes as well. Ranveer Singh will play the role of a cruel and ruthless antagonist who gets mesmerized by the beauty of Rani Padmavati. Well, when you have Deepika Padukone as the lead, it’s really difficult for anyone to not fall for her charm.

Ranveer has really worked hard for this role and the first look hints at how difficult his character is going to be. In fact, Ranveer got so engrossed into the character that he is reportedly consulting a psychiatrist to come out of this evil phase. This period drama ‘Padmavati’ is expected to release in December and is definitely going to be a game changer for Bollywood.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali kickstarts the promotional spree of his labour of love today, by launching the first look of Deepika Padukone from the film. The filmmaker thought it apt to bring forth his vision of the legendary Rani Padmini as the country prepares for devi sthapana (first day of Navratri).

A unit hand says, “Since ‘Padmavati’ celebrates Indian culture, today served as an apt occasion to launch the first look.” Bhansali has a knack for doing justice to Padukone’s ethereal beauty in his films. Considering Rani Padmini was famed for her beauty, the curiosity around Deepika Padukone’s look in the film has peaked. A source close to the production reveals that she will be seen sporting a minimal makeup look in the film that also stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.

The source says, “We did thorough research on Rani Padmini — from the kind of outfits she wore to her makeup. Women back then used natural ingredients to enhance their beauty. Bhansali was certain that he wanted to retain the authenticity. So, Deepika used very little makeup for her role. It would take her 30 minutes to get ready.”

Despite being the queen of Mewar, Padmini’s outfits have been influenced by Sinhalese style. “Since Padmini originally belonged to Sri Lanka, her outfits have a strong Sinhalese touch, although they are regal Rajputani attire.”

Given their success rate at the box-office and their shared affection, it is not surprising that Padukone was the first choice for Bhansali. “He believes that she is his lucky charm. It was an unsaid thing that Deepika and Ranveer will come on board for this film.”
Bhansali says, “I’m happy to bring the story of ‘Padmavati’ to the screen. It was a fitting date for us to launch the first look of the film and celebrate this auspicious occasion.”

padmavati-first-look-a On the auspicious occasion of Navratri on Thursday, the makers of period-drama film “Padmavati” unveiled the first look of the film in which actress Deepika Padukone looked every inch a reigning empress.

The first poster of the film shows Deepika donning a red lehenga and choli by designer duo Harpreet and Rimple, paired with elaborate Rajasthani jewellery by Tanishq.

Some 200 ‘karigars’ (craftsmen) worked for 600 days to create some of the most iconic pieces that will be showcased in the movie. Each piece of jewellery worn in the movie plays a significant role in some of the most crucial scenes such as the celebration of Diwali, Holi, Ghoomer and the Jauhar scenes, said a statement.

The poster shows a group of women in veils standing behind Deepika who can be seen standing with folded hands. The actress is essaying the role of Rani Padmavati of Chittore.

The “Bajirao Mastani” actress captioned the first poster: “Devi Sthapna ke shubh avsar par miliye Rani Padmavati se ‘Padmavati’.”
The second poster also shows the actress, who is sporting a unibrow for the first time, standing inside what seems like a temple.
She captioned the second image: “‘Padmavati’.”

“Padmavati”, which will release on December 1, tells the story of Alauddin Khilji, the medieval-era Delhi ruler who fell in love with Rajput queen Padmavati.

Actor Ranveer Singh, who is playing Khilji, also shared the poster and captioned it: ” Mallika-e-Chittod – ‘Padmavati’.”

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali — known for his grand period dramas — “Padmavati” also stars Shahid Kapoor.

The movie’s shoot went through a lot of hurdles.

In January, activists of outfit Shri Rajput Karni Sena had assaulted Bhansali and vandalised the movie’s Jaipur set over alleged distortions in the film’s script.

Later, once the filmmaker had moved the film’s shoot to Maharashtra, an outdoor set of the historic period drama in Kohlapur was reduced to ashes after two dozen unidentified persons torched it in March.

The star will essay the role of Deepika Padukone’s husband, Raja Ratan Singh, a just ruler and a warrior who gave his all to the battlefield. Shahid, who trained with a language coach before and during the shoot of the film , to get the finer nuances of the language and accent right ,will now have his coach accompany him to the Padmavati dub as well.

Says a source, “Shahid’s prep for Padmavati included training under a language coach ,since certain dialogues in the film were typical of that period. His coach will also be with him while he’s dubbing for the film so that he aces the accent and sounds authentic. Shahid’s role in Padmavati promises to be his career’s finest . He is going all out for the film, as he essays the role of the hero and has been looking into the minutest details with complete attention and dedication.”

‘Padmavati’ stirred more controversy when it was announced than most movies when they are being edited by the censor board. The historical epic story idea was picked up by none other than Bollywood’s magnum-opus specialist Sanjay Leela Bhansali and stars Deepika in the titular role, along with Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, who will essay a negative character.

If you noticed what I did, then the first thing that comes to the mind when you look at her in the poster is Frida Kahlo. The unibrow resemblance is uncanny.

The reason is easy to decrypt. Kahlo’s unibrow was a symbol of repression, courage, boldness and a refusal to bow down to anything. According to our sources, Deepika Padukone will star in Kick 2 in place of Jacqueline and will be seen romancing Salman.

From Shah Rukh Khan to Salman Khan, no one seemed to be able to weave their regular magic on the viewers this year.

However, 2017 has witnessed the soaring rise of small films where new stars have done wonders, while movies with Khans just tanked.

We are a country where we plan our weekends around movies. A three-hour film is the best way to unwind and can have a therapeutic effect. But this year, many an irate audience left the halls fuming after spending money on disappointing shows.

Nevertheless, the show must go on, and there is still a bevy of promising films lined up that might make up for the earlier upsets.

‘Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost’ and here are nine movies to watch out for:

Simran (September 15)

Set to hit the screens within few days, this film doesn’t need any introduction. ‘Queen’ Kangana Ranaut will be seen in a new Gujarati avatar and we bet she will nail this character as well.

Simran is the story about a woman who lives in USA. She is a gambler and a kleptomaniac, who believes in living her life to the fullest.

Helmed by Hansal Mehta, who has made films like Aligarh and Shahid, we are expecting a lot from this one too.

Judwaa 2 (September 29)

There is literally no one that we know of, who isn’t looking forward to watching this film. The ‘1997 Judwaa’ still makes us laugh. From leaving us in splits to making us groove to ‘TannTana Tan Tan Tan Tara’, Salman and Karisma left us stunned. And the cherry on top was seeing bhaijaan in a double role. Let’s hope the remake doesn’t ruin the classic.

Judwaa 2 stars Varun Dhawan, Tapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez, and is being directed by none other than David Dhawan who also directed the original.

Chef (6th October)

After a long time, we will finally get to see nawab Saif Ali Khan gracing his fans on the silver screen. This time he is all set to impress us with the official remake of Jon Favreau’s ‘Chef’. The movie beautifully narrates the story of a man who is trying to balance both his personal and professional life, a tale that many of us can relate to. The film looks promising and we can’t wait to watch this father-son saga.

2.0 (October 19)

This is one of the most awaited movies of the year, after all, we get to see Akshay Kumar and legend Rajinikanth sharing screen space together. The sequel to 2010’s blockbuster film ‘Enthiran’, this film has already made tons of money before its release itself. Directed by S.Shankar, we will see Rajinikanth reprising his original role, while Akki will be seen donning a negative character. The film is already being called as the most expensive Indian film made till date!

Golmaal 4 (October 19)

This is the fourth film from the Golmaal franchise. Every instalment has not only entertained us but managed to make good bucks at the box office as well. This time joining the Golmaal family are Tabu and Parineeti Chopra alongside Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu and Shreyas Talpade. This Rohit Shetty film will also recreate famous song ‘Neend Churai Meri’ from the cult film ‘Ishq’.

Padmavati (November 17)

Everyone knows that filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movies are larger than life. It’s not only entertaining, but what he brings on the screen is an experience that we cherish. And now he is busy bringing the story of Padmavati to life, which is based on Rani Padmini, RanavRawal Ratan Singh, and Alauddin Khilji.

This magnum opus stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Before release, the film is already in news like all the other Bhansali films and we can’t wait for its first look to be out.

Tumhari Sulu (December 1)

Vidya Balan is a powerhouse actor, who often moves us with her acting, However, lately her films haven’t been doing well, but we still have high hopes for her second release this year.

Fukrey Returns (December 8)

Tiger Zinda Hai (December 22)

Irrespective of the past Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are known to set the screen on fire with their amazing chemistry. The movie has a long way to go before its release, but it has already begun making rounds on. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film is a sequel to 2012’s super hit film, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’.

T-Series join hands with KriArj Entertainment and Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures to present ‘Sapna Didi’ biopic starring Deepika Padukone and Irrfan.

The ‘Piku’ pair of Deepika Padukone and Irrfan are back in an untitled film based on the life of mafia queen Rahima Khan popularly known as ‘Sapna Didi’ that will be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj’s long time associate Honey Trehan. The film is based on one of the chapters of former investigative journalist turned author S Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

Sapna Didi was one of the most feared female dons from the 80’s. The film will be produced by T-Series, KriArj Entertainment and Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures.

Producer Bhushan Kumar says, “Deepika and Irrfan are great actors. We are very excited with the subject and are proud of associating with KriArj Entertainment and Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures on this film.” Shooting of the film begins early 2018 and it is slated for release in October 2018.
