After impressing Marathi film audience and bagging three National Awards, Priyanka Chopra’s production, Ventilator (2016) is set to find a wider audience. The Rajesh Mapuskar-directed comedy-drama is being adapted into a Gujarati play.
Confirming the news to mid-day, the actor’s mother Madhu Chopra, who heads their production house, says, “It’s a rare occasion where a film is being adapted into a play. The film made us proud on the national level and I hope people shower the same love towards it when it comes on stage.”

The play will be helmed by acclaimed theatre director Rajesh Joshi, the man behind Code Mantra — one of the costliest productions on Gujarati stage. Chopra adds that Joshi is an apt choice as he shares similar sensibilities.
“We’re glad that he is making it because he knows what he wants. Joshi is not making any changes to the script, he’s simply adapting it to suit the sensibilities of the Gujarati audience. I have read a few scenes and they have been written well.”
She also reveals that Mapuskar is collaborating on the play as a creative consultant. “With him on board, Priyanka and I know that it is in safe hands,” she smiles.
The play is tentatively scheduled to open early November.
