The year 2017 was one hell of a year for Bollywood and we mean literally. While there were a few films that left us impressed, most of the movies that were released left us utterly disappointed. 

Films like ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, ‘Tubelight’, ‘Rangoon’ and ‘Half Girlfriend’ were the biggest blunders that B-town created this year. In fact, it would be perfect to say that these films were designed with the whole and sole intention to torture us thoroughly! 

From pure evil to kill-me-now flicks, here’s the list of films that tanked big time at the Box Office and left us numb forever!

Ok Jaanu

There was nothing ok with this Jaanu! This Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor starrer had given high hopes to the viewers, after all, they were coming back on screen after the commercial success of ‘Aashiqui 2’. However, ‘Ok Jaanu’ was nothing but a cliché film that left everyone wondering why was it even made? In fact, this film was just the start of the more disappointing string of films to come.

Raabta

This mediocre cliché love story starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Kriti Sanon and Jim Sarbh literally made everyone cringe. ‘Raabta’, yet another reincarnation drama takes you to two different time zones, making the past and the present both very difficult to bear. And now we totally understand what made Rajkummar Rao get that unrecognisable look. 

Half Girlfriend

This cheesy love story by Mohit Suri was anything but a love story. ‘Half Girlfriend’ was so bad that you would never like the concept of being half of anything ever again. This Chetan Bhagat’s book adaptation was below anyone’s IQ level. 

Jagga Jasoos

It feels sad to feature a Ranbir Kapoor- Katrina Kaif film in the list. Despite being a refreshing film by Anurag Basu, the film fell flat on its face at the Box Office.

Rangoon

Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Rangoon’ was one of the most anticipated films with a stellar cast like Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor. But the sloppy execution literally crushed the whole essence of this drama. 

Tubelight

We don’t need to tell you how excited everyone was when Kabir Khan and Salman Khan announced their third film together. This Eid, Salman disappointed millions of his fans with this emotionally annoying film. Set in the backdrop of the Indo-China war, this movie turned out to be more frustrating every second. The 1962 war was a lost cause for India and so is the film. And you don’t have to be a ‘Tubelight’ to figure this one out. 

Jab Harry Met Sejal

This Imtiaz Ali- Shah Rukh Khan flick got our hopes up for sure but our illusion was shattered once we witnessed it on the big screen. The star and the director failed to recreate the magic, making it the biggest bummer of the year. It would have been perfect if only Harry had never met Sejal!

Baadshaho

Well, if you thought Milan Luthria’s ‘Baadshaho’ starring Ileana D’Cruz, Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi has anything to do with the emergency, you are mistaken. This film is nothing more than a 90’s revamped version of the ‘chor-police’ saga. Blame the mediocrity of making for the failure of the film. ‘Baadshaho’ could have been a great, entertaining flick but in the end what we actually got was a film that thought it was entertaining but falls way short of the mark!

Haseena Parkar

What on earth could be funny than casting Shraddha Kapoor for the role of a don who ideally ran the city? Quite a misfit, isn’t it? Apoorva Lakhi’s film was nothing but a laughing stock of B-town. Shraddha tries something new and truly does try her best. But all we get is a tanned actress with terrible prosthetic work. In all, this film was a shabby, gutless, saga of Haseena, whose story just doesn’t make a difference and shouldn’t have been made. It’s high time Bollywood stops glamorising the underworld.  

Simran

Hansal Mehta’s ‘Simran’ starring National Award winning actress Kangana Ranaut was flawed. The aimless story lets down the sheer talented actress. Kangana is amazing sans this film. Even the controversy that began overt Kangana and Hrithik’s alleged love affair was not enough to save ‘Simran’ from drowning.

Bollywood simply loves remakes, and so do we, but only when it’s not a senseless rip-off. Since the time we got a glimpse of ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ trailer, we can’t help but get all excited about the movie which is set to hit the screens soon.

The reboot is one of the most anticipated films of 2017 and having Dwayne Johnson in it just adds more to the thrill of witnessing the twisted world of Jumanji once again.

Bollywood often comes up with remakes and we are seriously hoping this is on their list as well. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see who will say the epic dialogues in Hindi, “Did someone roll a five or an eight?” and “WHAT YEAR IS IT?”

Thinking about the Bollywood version, we already have some fabulous ‘desi’ actors in mind that would absolutely fit the bill.

1. Dwayne Johnson – Prabhas

Dwayne Johnson ‘The Rock’, doesn’t need an introduction and nor does our very own mighty ‘Baahubali’ aka Prabhas. With their identical muscular physique and amazing sense of humor, Prabhas is cent percent the right pick for this role. Known for giving his best, we can bet that Prabas will definitely justify the role of Dr. Smolder Bravestone, an archaeologist, and explorer.

2. Kevin Hart – Varun Dhawan

Who better than Varun Dhawan to play Kevin Hart role of Franklin “Moose” Finbar, a zoologist and weapons specialist? Varun fits perfectly into the funny shoes of Kevin since he himself is a big fan of the WWE star and nurtures the dream of working with him someday.

3. Jack Black – Arshad Warsi

There is no one like Arshad Warsi when it comes to comedy and wit. The man can literally leave you in splits in seconds with just a straight face. So who other than Arshad to don Jack Black’s role of Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon, a cartographer, cryptographer, archaeologist, and palaeontologist? We can already imagine Arshad taking it to another level.

4. Karen Gillan – Katrina Kaif

After having played an explorer-cum-spy-cum-writer in ‘Jagga Jasoos’, Katrina is one hell of an actress who is even known for doing her own stunts. She is one who can easily transform herself into the chic jungle fighter flawlessly. Karen plays Ruby Roundhouse, a killer of men and dance fighter and this role needs someone who can do it all effortlessly and Kat is the one and only for it!

5. Director – Jake Kasdan – Rohit Shetty

Making a Bollywood version of Jumanji needs an actor who can totally pull it off with style and who better than Rohit Shetty to deal with a subject like that? Maybe Rohit should take our suggestion seriously and work on this project.

Now doesn’t that sound like a full proof plan for a blockbuster Bollywood film? The film ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ is all set to hit the screens on 29th December and we bet this reboot will be one hell of a watch.

1. Amelie

2. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

This movie fulfils every travel enthusiast’s fantasies. The story is about a simple middle-aged man named Walter Mitty, living a regular life, working a 9 to 5 job where every day is pretty much the same(basically, us). As the title aptly suggests, the story is about his secret life- his wild imagination; an alternate life that is enthralling. In a compelling turn of events, he embarks on a global journey to find his idol. One gets engrossed as the lines between his secret life and the real one gets blurred as he goes through some extraordinary adventures. 

3. Little Miss Sunshine

The story is so brilliantly laid out that it simply touches your heart. ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ is the story of a dysfunctional family as they embark on an adventure of a road trip, determined to enter their young daughter, Olive, a dumpling of a child with oversize glasses and a seemingly endless reserve of optimism, to compete in a beauty pageant called Little Miss Sunshine. This marvellous satire on modern life with its humorous one-liners along with the wonderful character development and terrific performances which gives us a sharp depiction of contemporary America makes for a touching human comedy.

4. Trolls

What better to feel happy than to watch the happiest creatures on earth. Trolls is an irreverent comedy extravaganza with incredible music featuring some of the biggest singers in very colourful avatars, this movie leaves you with that happy feeling. It is about a group of adorable trolls who are supposed to be the happiest creatures on this planet and are attacked and eaten by the Bergen (monsters) who believe that eating trolls is the only way to get happiness. However, this movie that may seem like a sweet concoction version of the Smurfs has a deeper message underneath it and is more relatable than you think. This movie tops the list, especially when you’re feeling down and low.

5. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Director Tim Burton brings his unique vision and sensibility to Roald Dahl’s classic with his lavish screen interpretation. Charlie Bucket, who is poor but has a loving family, is lucky enough to obtain one of the golden tickets to visit Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Charlie is in for the ride of a lifetime as he tours the strange and remarkable world of Wonka with fellow winners. 

6. The Intouchables

Based on a true story, ‘The Intouchables’ is a heartfelt movie about a beautiful friendship between two oddballs, Philippe, a rich widower who is paralyzed neck down and Driss, an ex-convict from Senegal. The two form a close bond where both lives are developed for better. An international blockbuster, ‘The Intouchables’ is a heart-warming and engaging movie that leaves you with a smile on your face.

7. About Time

This romantic comedy deals with about the vicissitudes of life and love. The film is every bit entertaining and revolves around 21 years old Tim, who realises that he has the ability to travel in time. He often time travels to help people around him and help build a strong bond with his family. However, he soon realizes that his exceptional gift does not protect him from the normal ups and downs of life. Filled with moving scenes and deep life lessons, this makes for an inspiring watch.
