We have all loved the street smart Bronn till now. The man can fight like a badass but he’s got no morals or loyalty to hold him back. The only thing he is loyal to is wealth, and understandably so. In a world where loyalty gets you beheaded and what not, perhaps the lack of it is not so bad.

‘Game of Thrones' Actor Who Plays Bronn Says His Postman Stopped Talking To Him After He Shot Drogon

But the 4th episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ changed all that. The minute Bronn ran towards Qyburn’s massive  scorpion-bow and aimed at Drogon, he lost all fans; even the diehard ones. Why would you do that, Bronn?! Guess that’s the downside of fighting for money.

Take a look at the explosive scene again:

Jerome Flynn, the actor who plays Bronn, is well aware of the lost fandom. In an interview for ‘Making Game of Thrones’, he confessed how his postman has stopped talking to him because he attempted to kill the dragon!

“I was surprised when I was watching it. I spent weeks on that sequence, but I was on the edge of my seat, the adrenaline was running — they really nailed it. Although since the day the battle aired, I’ve been a little unpopular, I have to say. My postman won’t speak to me because I shot the dragon.”

No doubt that scene was impressive as hell. Flynn himself was overwhelmed when he watched the scene again in its entirety even though he was the one in it! He further said in the interview, “It took four or five weeks to film that sequence, but the actual “death run” to Qyburn’s scorpion happened over a couple of days. And that one particular sequence was some of the most most exciting filming I’ve had.”

The visual effects in ‘Spoils of War’ were one of the best in the show so far, and we still can’t get over that image of Dany riding her dragon like a badass.

Watch how the GOT team managed to pull off this epic ‘Loot Train attack’ scene:

H/t – Making of Game Of Thrones

Aug 102017

The 4th episode of Game of Thrones season 7 was the most satisfying episode ever! While Arya’s reunion with Sansa left us with too many emotions, her comeback as a merciless assassin had us pumping our fists in the air. ‘Spoils of War’ finally gave us some explosive dragon action and we loved every bit of it. Watching Daenerys unleash brutality at the Lannister army with her fire-breathing dragon was the most orgasmic moments of the season. Let’s decode the images from Episode 5 and hope it is as exciting as this one.

Looks like Daenerys has begun to look up to Jon Snow more than her advisor Tyrion. Overruling Tyrion’s word of caution, she goes up to Jon to ask for his advice in the 4th episode. Though she still does what she wants to, it’s clear the Khaleesi is developing a soft corner for the king in the North. We hope sparks fly in the next episode.

We think Dany is stressing a little too much on ‘Bend the knee’! Considering Jaime and Bronn are nowhere to be seen, we can assume Jaime will have a little of his adventure getting out of that lake.

With the Dothraki army rallying behind her, Daenerys could be unstoppable.

Do we have any new visitors to Dragonstone?

Finally, Littlefinger might get going with some sneaky plan of his and finally, he will be digging in his own grave.

We expect nothing less than a plot-twisting discovery from Sam and Gilly.

Err..one question: now that he is not in the North anymore, why does Jon Snow still wear that thick furcoat?

Looks like Dany might have additions to the court, now that she has successfully defeated a part of the Lannister army.

There’s a bigger better war coming, and everyone needs a little more than just dragons to win it.

We feel for Tyrion. One of the sharpest characters on GOT, he is advising a queen against his own family and the queen is beginning to undermine his judgment.

Hard news for Cersei. Jaime is still missing and Cersei will have to come up with a better plan to save herself.

Despite all the leaks by hackers, we are still looking forward to when the show officially airs; after all, loyalty is a thing and in ‘Game of Thrones, the price for it is too high. In case you don’t have a Hotstar membership, GOT Season 7 airs in India on Star World and Star World HD every Tuesday at 11 pm. And in case you do, we’ll race you to the spoilers!

Valar Morghulis!

Aug 102017

The 7th season is on and as we overdose on ‘Game of Thrones’ theories, trying to imagine every possible plot twist, we can’t help but wonder about the new words GoT has introduced. Weddings, for GoT fans, will never have the same meaning now. And winter? We have another reason to look forward to it now. Like with every epic fantasy fiction, the author has introduced a whole range of words and phrases to accommodate the many myths, houses, supernatural elements and tradition. We look at the best words ‘Game of Thrones’ has introduced to us. Which one’s your favourite?

1. Valar Morghulis

Valar Morghulis© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

A rather grim greeting in Braavos, Valar Morghulis (in High Valyrian) translates to ‘All men must die’. It is first used by Jaqen H’ghar, the faceless assassin who helps Arya escape prison in Harrenhal. The phrase helps Arya make her journey to Braavos and to the House of Black and White, where the Faceless Men live.

2. Valar Dohaeris

Valar Dohaeris© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

The response to Valar Morghulis, Valar Dohaeris is part of the customary greeting in Braavos. Fan theories have suggested that the phrase could refer to the fact that most of the people in Braavos are descendants of slaves who fled their masters and settled in Braavos, one of the most important of the Free Cities.

3. Dragonglass

Dragonglass© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

A type of volcanic glass that can kill a White Walker. Dragonglass is the only substance besides Valyrian steel that can kille the White Walkers. It is found in abundance on the island Dragonstone where Daenerys has currently set camp.

Dragonglass was used by the Children of the Forest to create the White Walkers – the magic ritual involved thrusting a dragonglass shard into a human, making him turn into a White Walker.

4. Warg

Warg© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

Wargs are people who can enter the mind of an animal and control it. They can also see the world through the eyes of the animal. The warg becomes numb during the act of warging. While wargs can only enter the minds of animals, an exception to it is when Bran wargs into Hodor. It is widely believed that all the Starks are wargs, but only Bran knows how to do it. Arya and Jon have been known to warg into their pet wolves, Nymeria and Ghost.

5. Khal

Khal© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

A khal is the commander/leader of a Dothraki community, khalasar. Each khalasar could easily be made of thousands of Dothraki people. A Khal is a powerful warrior who earns the title after hard-won battles and extreme display of power and ability to defeat his enemies. It is said that the Dothraki warriors don’t keep their hair long and cut it only when they are defeated in war. The longer the braid of a Dothraki warrior, the more wars he has won. Khal Drogo led a huge khalasar and had never cut his hair in his life.

6. Khaleesi

Khaleesi© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

Khaleesi is the title given to the wife of a khal. When a khal dies, the tribe leaves the Khaleesi behind and she is bound to join the dosh khaleen in Vaes Dothrak. Daenerys is the only khaleesi who refused to oblige and declared herself the leader of the Dothraki men and women who chose to follow her.

7. Greyscale

Greyscale© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

A skin disease that makes the skin scaly and dead, Greyscale is a dangerous ailment that gradually affects the entire body of an individual leading to death. Besides Jorah Mormont, Shireen (daughter of King Stannis) suffered from Greyscale. The disease was prevented from advancing but it left half of her face disfigured. The disease is extremely infectious and spread from touching which is why those suffering from it are exiled to the ruins of old cities.

Varys tells an interesting story behind the origins of the disease. Prince of the Rhoynar, Garin the Great, was defeated by the Valyrians who then rampaged his kingdom and made him watch as they went about killing his people and capturing women and children. A distressed Garin appealed to Mother Rhoyne and the city was flooded “with foul waters and a damp fog that caused the skin of the Valyrians to harden and crack, and thus was born grayscale,” as recounted by Varys.

8. Maester

Maester© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

A maester is a scholarly learned man and a healer in the Seven Kingdoms. Maesters are given an order of the Sigil, a golden chain consisting of 12 links, to be worn in the neck. The heavier the chain of a maester, the more learned he is. Every House has a royal maester. The Order of the maesters is a non-religious one and the maesters often serve as advisors to their king.

9. Septon

Septon© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

Unlike the order of the maesters, the Septon is a religious order. A septon is a male clergy member of the Faith of the Seven, the dominant religion in the Seven kingdoms. They function as priests and advocates of the religion.

10. Mhysa

Mhysa© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

Mhysa is the name give to Daenerys when she frees the people of Yunkai from the Masters. The word means ‘mother’ in the Ghiscari language.

11. Wildlings

Wildlings© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

Wildlings is the name given by the people of the Seven Kingdoms to the Free Folk who live beyond the Wall. They are descendents of the First Men and are divided from the Northerners by the Wall which was originally built to protect the Seven kingdoms from White Walkers. The Free Folk don’t follow a monarchic order and choose their leader themselves. ‘Wildlings’ is a derogatory term given to them.

12. White Walker

White Walker© MensXP/Disha Bhatia

The White Walkers are the enemy behind the Wall. Snow-cold icy dead men marching across a frozen sea, killing anyone they touch. A clever synonym for zombies basically. The White Walkers were created by the Children of the Forest to protect themselves from the Andals, but soon they went rogue and the Children of the Forest could no longer control them. They can transform any dead body north of the Wall into another White Walker.

All of us are guilty of getting a little too attached with our favorite fictional characters. Be it superheroes, kings and queens, or badass villains. But behind those larger-than-life action scenes is..well… a superb visual effects team. They really do package it so well for us that we can’t help but fall for the big picture. While we all know the reality, it’s comforting to take refuge in fantasy every once in a while. After all, what are we without a little imagination. So when we came across these crazy visual effects on Twitter, naturally things were ruined for us. We thought it’d be selfish if we suffered alone.

Safe to say you won’t be able to unsee these.

Pictures of ‘Game Of Thrones’ author George RR Martin from his younger days have surfaced and are making fans go crazy. The reason – he looks uncannily similar to Jon Snow, the brooding stylish hero of ‘Game Of Thrones’ the show. The same soft locks, shy smile and deep eyes. George RR Martin is Jon Snow!

It won’t be wrong to assume then that Jon Snow is here to stay and do greater things. It’s been widely assumed that Samwell Tarly was the author’s voice. But these pictures of Martin tell a different story for sure.

Now fans are using this resemblance to predict Jon Snow’s future on the show. Rest assured Snow is not gonna die anytime soon. While of course the resemblance is a coincidence – the books were written way before the show and way before Kit Harrington was signed on for the role of Jon Snow. But perhaps some casting director or produce had a clever sense of humour? We can only guess!

Things didn’t really end well in the 3rd episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ and Cersei has drawn first blood in the war. Daenerys and Jon’s meeting was comical, to say the least, and we do hope they find a mutual path soon. The 4th episode is just round the corner and HBO has released brand new images of the episode and looks like the winds are changing direction. Let’s have a look at the pictures and go crazy with the theories already!

Tough Reunion For Theon

Theon arrives at Dragonstone on the Greyjoy ship that rescued him and it looks like a few heavy steps towards a reunion with Jon Snow.

The New Pictures Of Episode 4 Of ‘Game Of Thrones' S7 Are Out© HBO

Theon has quite a lot of bad blood with the Stark clan – he cruelly took over Winterfell to please his indifferent father, murdered the maester who taught the Stark children, carried a fake murder of Bran and Rickon Stark by burning two farm boys. Sansa might have forgiven him after he risked his life to save her, but Jon might not.

The New Pictures Of Episode 4 Of ‘Game Of Thrones' S7 Are Out© HBO

Going by their grim faces, there’s more bad news perhaps. If it’s Theon on the other end, he will have to face a lot of wrath. Tortured by Ramsay Bolton, Theon is still haunted by the memories and suffers from PTSD but abandoning your ship when your sister has a sword to her throat will not warrant a hero’s welcome for him, of course.

Do we see a love story blossoming there?

The New Pictures Of Episode 4 Of ‘Game Of Thrones' S7 Are Out© HBO

Good to know Jon is lingering around long enough for Daenerys to develop a liking to him. King of North too seems to be taken by Dany too. Though we cringed at Khaleesi’s cocky tirade when they first meet, we would very much like to see them together, thank you. Incest, you say. *cough* Lannisters *cough*

The New Pictures Of Episode 4 Of ‘Game Of Thrones' S7 Are Out© HBO

Missandei’s sly smile and Dany’s mock anger could very involve some good-humoured teasing here, we reckon. Turns out Jon Snow does know something.

Sansa Set For A Third Wedding?!

The New Pictures Of Episode 4 Of ‘Game Of Thrones' S7 Are Out© HBO

As current Warden of the North, Sansa has a lot of hard decisions to make as Jon extends his stay in Dragonstone to mine Dragonglass. With winter knocking at Winterfell’s doors, Sansa has already leapt in action. If Jon doesn’t return on time, she has to take charge of defending their kingdom. Seen here in Godswood, the area of worship and meditation, Sansa looks like she is about to make a big decision and needs strength from the gods – do we hear wedding bells? Maybe. Marrying Littlefinger would give her control over the Vale; of course, he could be killed later.

The New Pictures Of Episode 4 Of ‘Game Of Thrones' S7 Are Out© HBO

As loyal GoT fans, we don’t trust this character one bit. Seen here in all his sly glory, Littlefinger looks like he has another scheme up his sleeve.

The New Pictures Of Episode 4 Of ‘Game Of Thrones' S7 Are Out© HBO

We haven’t seen Podrick and Brienne in a while now and it’ll be good to see Podrick as a skilled fighter trained by Brienne. We know Sansa is in good hands as long as Brienne of Tarth is serving her.

We are not liking the confidence on Cersei.

The New Pictures Of Episode 4 Of ‘Game Of Thrones' S7 Are Out© HBO

The fear on Jamie and Bronn’s faces makes up for it. The war might come sooner than we expected. While returning from Highgarden, the Lannister army led by Jamie could be faced with Daenerys’ Dothraki army. And even King Robert Baratheon knew “Only a fool would meet the Dothraki in an open field.”

We can only form theories and imagine every possible plot and scheme in our minds till nothing surprises us anymore, as Littlefinger advises Sansa. Tell us what you think of these pictures from Episode 4; let us hear some crazy theories! Game of Thrones Season 7 airs in India on Star World and Star World HD every Tuesday at 11 in the night.

Melisandre has always been somewhat of a mystery and we loved the touch of magic in the show, save for the fact that her miscalculated prediction causes the death of a little girl. After all, dragons can’t do much beyond breathing fire, can they? In her brief appearance in episode 3, Melisandre drops a very important hint about Varys that we have most probably missed.

The Huge Plot Twist Behind Melisandre's Words To Varys© HBO

After bringing fire and ice together, Melisandre decides to leave Dragonstone; of course, we know why she is avoiding Jon Snow and Ser Davos – the blood of a little girl on her hands doesn’t look too good. She tells a suspicious Varys that she is going to Volantis. Varys slyly tells her not to return to Dragonstone as it might not be safe for her anymore.

Melisandre’s response “I will return […] one last time. I have to die in this strange country, just like you”  left both Varys and the viewers stumped. What did she mean?! Is she predicting Varys’ death? Does she know something we don’t?

The Huge Plot Twist Behind Melisandre's Words To Varys© HBO

First things first, if you thought Varys was being hostile towards the Red Witch for no reason, you are right. The reason can be traced back to the tragic incident that changed his life forever. Varys was bought by a sorcerer who castrated him as part of a magic ritual and later left him to die on the streets. He confesses to Tyrion that he hates magic and sorcerers and explains his dislike of the Red Witch.

The Huge Plot Twist Behind Melisandre's Words To Varys© HBO

If you recall, Varys hears a voice from the flames, a fact he is uncomfortable with. The fact that Varys has a connection with the supernatural world has been established in the show. Fan theories suggest that he is not lowborn, but of royal blood – something the Red Witch also hints at when she says, “None of us are common folk anymore.” It is believed that the voice speaks to him during the blood ritual, because he is of royal blood.

The Huge Plot Twist Behind Melisandre's Words To Varys© HBO

Melisandre’s prediction of his death hints at two major possibilities – Varys could betray Daenerys, the result of which would be him being burned alive, or he could be capable of magic himself, just like the Red Witch, even though he hates it.

Throwback to season 6 when Kinvara, a priestess in R’hllor, stumps Varys by asking him “Should I tell you what the voice said? Should I tell you the name of the one who spoke?”  Was the voice predicting his death? Does he know he will die in fire?

Varys, if he indeed betrays Daenerys, could then change the course of war since he is an insider in her camp and would be privy to the most confidential of plans. Whatever it is, one thing is for sure – Varys will not have a linear role in the coming episodes.

The second episode of ‘Game Of Thrones’ season 7 wasn’t exactly high on adrenaline rush. While we just can’t keep calm over Daenerys’ aggressive narcissism and the epic conversation that follows between her and Jon, the real punch was delivered by none other than Lady Olenna, the show’s official badass.

Olenna's Parting Shot To Cersei Makes Her The Official GoT Badass

Even though Cersei takes over Highgarden, defeating House Tyrell, she couldn’t win over sassy granny Olenna. Lady Tyrell has been quite a handful ever since she was introduced in the show. But her parting shot to Cersei was the most fiery comeback ever used in the show. Safe to say she is the official badass on GoT.

Olenna's Parting Shot To Cersei Makes Her The Official GoT Badass(C) HBO

Not an iota of fear on her face and not a hint of regret, she reveals to Jaime how she got his son Joffery killed on his wedding day. “I want her to know it was me,” she says with satisfaction writ all over her face. What a way to go!

Even though she receives the kindest death on ‘Game of Thrones’, she manages to be turn the tables on her murderer. Jaime bragging about how he talked Cersei out of giving Olenna a cruel death is the most ironic fails on the show.

The meeting of ice and fire finally happened and there was a lot of steam that was let out. A scene every GOT fan has been looking forward to, the meeting of Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow was by far one of the most comical scenes in the series. We’ve lost count of the number of times Dany has reiterated her Targaryen-mother-of-dragons-heir-to-Iron-Throne identity.

The second episode of ‘Game Of Thrones' season 7 had us going back to the previous seasons. Old predictions were confirmed, worst fears came true, and some notorious warnings about a few characters hung ominously in the air. The episode had quite a few callbacks and frankly, only a hardcore fan would recall all of them. While Euron clearly established himself as the next Ramsay Bolton, more shrewd and intimidating in his wild love of violence, there were a few stray hints about how the character of Danerys might evolve, for worse.

When Daenerys Betrays A Hint Of The Madness

Things You Missed In Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 2 © HBO

Daenerys has, by far, shown a balanced head and a steely resolve to reclaim the throne that rightfully belongs to the Targaryens. As she gets closer to her goal, acquiring allies and armies, fans noticed a slight change in her behaviour. When she questions Varys' loyalty, she tells him, “And I swear this, if you ever betray me, I'll burn you alive.” It is being seen as an ominous recall to the Mad King's command to his soldiers: “Burn them all!”

Things You Missed In Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 2 © HBO

When she dictates the message that is to be sent to Jon Snow, she decides to end it with ‘And bend the knee', much to Tyrion's growing concern. Is power getting to her? Will she become like her father, the Mad King? Or will she turn sinister like Cersei?

Grandma Olenna's advice to her doesn't ring well for her fans either. The old lady tells Dany to choose to ignore her Hand, Tryrion, and conquer Westeros through force, something that'd call bloodshed and mayhem.

Snow's Confrontation With Littlefinger Is Ominous Of Things To Come

Things You Missed In Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 2 © HBO

In what was a much awaited confrontation, Jon Snow slams Littlefinger against a wall warning him to stay away from his sister, when the latter confesses ‘love' for her, just like his love for their mother.

Things You Missed In Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 2 © HBO

If you'd recall Ned Stark reacted much similarly, when Littlefinger took him to a brothel where he had hidden Catelyn. Considering how Petyr Baelish betrayed Ned Stark, it is a fair warning of things to come.

Things You Missed In Game Of Thrones Season 7 Episode 2 © HBO

Snow has already made Sansa the ruler of the North in his absence; it remains to be seen how a conniving Littlefinger once again plays his old tricks. He could very well influence an already skeptical Sansa to take complete charge of the North and transfer power to him (do we hear wedding bells?).

That's Not You
