For all the kings and queens, dragons and whores, witches and dead men in the show ‘Game of Thrones’, there is one character who charms merely by virtue of his wit and his indifference towards a world he understands a little too well. He is Tyrion Lannister – sly, bold, and irreverent. In him, fans see a man ill-favoured by luck, a man who’s been given a raw deal in a world where physical bravado determines your lifespan and the respect you earn. And yet he manages to outsmart them all, with his refusal to get bogged down by their broad-chested armour plates, using the one thing he has best – a quick-witted mind and a confidence that stems from realizing that.

Peter Dinklage’s struggle is not vastly different from the character he has immortalized, but unlike reel life, the struggle and success story is more layered. Born in New Jersey to an insurance salesman and a music teacher, Dinklage was born with achondroplasia, a genetic disorder that causes dwarfism. Acting began at an early age as Dinklage explored theatre at school and college level, but commercial success was to arrive much later.

Dinklage struggled to make ends meet when he moved to New York to further his acting career. Staying in a run-down apartment that had no heating and hardly any comfort, he strived hard to get good work, something that was hard to come by given his physical stature. Despite the scarce means, he stood his ground and refused roles that were typically written for dwarves, to either bring comic relief or to heighten the supernatural element using the ‘elf’ as a trope.

It was difficult. To say no when you are a struggling actor with no money. But Dinklage was ambitious enough. His story was that of any struggling actor trying to break into the glamorous world of showbiz, only in his case, there was an additional clause. His looks challenged the general perception of what a mainstream hero looked like, but Dinklage refused to be sidelined into the role society would have him set in.

And it did pay off. Success came in spurts but it was enough to keep him going. His first breakthrough came in the form of the 2003-movie ‘The Station Agent’ in which he played Finbar McBride, a character with normal human emotions, minus the caricatures. The movie got him critical acclaim and a visibility in the circles.

What followed were noticeable roles in movies and theatre productions. The highlight of his career was, of course, his role as Tyrion Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones’ created by David Benioff and DB Weiss. The portrayal of the cynical but sharp Lannister brought him rave reviews and a fandom long due. Dinklage added an edge to the character, bringing personality to an already well-written part.

The Lifestory Of Peter Dinklage Is No Small Feat© HBO

Dinklage was the first actor to be cast in the show and according to the creators, he was the first choice for the role. But Dinklage himself was wary when he was approached for the role. Years of being offered caricatural dwarf roles made him get his guard up. In an interview with the New York Times, he confesses he put one condition before the creators Benioff and Weiss: that there would be no flowy beard and no pointy shoes – a typical ensemble for dwarf characters in movies.

The role was anything but typical, and Dinklage did it full justice. He went on to earn a Golden Globe award and two Emmy awards for Outstanding actor in a drama series for his role as Tyrion Lannister in the series.

Dinklage confessed to having been bitter and angry about his condition, especially in his younger years. He has often spoken in support of normalizing the condition and against the culture of bullying and mocking dwarves. During his Golden Globe acceptance speech, he urged people to google Martin Henderson, a dwarf who was picked up and hurled by a rowdy rugby fan in London. In the interview with the New York Times, he says though, “Everyone’s different. Every person my size has a different life, a different history. Different ways of dealing with it. Just because I’m seemingly okay with it, I can’t preach how to be okay with it. I don’t think I still am okay with it. There’s days when I’m not.”

Today, he has come far from the struggling actor living in a cold apartment. With prestigious awards, critical acclaim and fandom tucked by his side, he is a name to reckon with now. He married theatre director Erica Schmidt and has a daughter; of course, he lives in luxury today. But the journey wasn’t easy and Dinklage stood his ground.

He delivered a moving speech at Bennington College, where he studied acting before moving to New York to try his luck in movies and theatre. Standing at 4 feet 5 inches, Peter Dinklage has managed to reach the most coveted heights of success in showbiz. It didn’t come because of luck; it didn’t happen by chance. It came because he was persistent enough, because he believed in himself enough to say no to the world when it tried to push him into a definition it was comfortable with.

If you have to take anything from this story, it is this. This speech, where he urges you to not wait. To not wait for the right moment, to not wait for the world to give you an opportunity. Don’t wait for the world’s approval or permission. Do it anyway.

Quoting Becket he says, “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

One of our most favourite characters on ‘Game of Thrones’ is Tormund Giantsbane, the Wilding leader who has his heart set on Brienne of Tarth. Loyal to Jon Snow and a great fighter, Tormund is a beast in battle. The man has fallen for Brienne of Tarth and has no qualms openly confessing his love for the lady, or as he says, he wants to ‘make babies’ with her.

This Is How Tormund From ‘Game Of Thrones' Looks Without A Beard

In the 6th episode ‘Beyond The Wall’, Tormund has an interesting chat with the Hound while they are on their way to capturing a Wight. And Tormund doesn’t like to mince words when speaking of the woman he fancies.

Tormund: “I have a beauty waiting for me back at Winterfell. If I ever get back there. Yellow hair, blue eyes, tallest women you’ve ever seen, almost as tall as you.”

Hound: “Brienne of Tarth.”

Tormund: “You know her?”

Hound: “You’re with Brienne of fucking Tarth.”

Tormund: “Well, not with her yet, but I see the way she looks at me.”

Hound: “How does she look at you? Like she wants to carve you up and eat your liver?”

Tormund: “You do know her.”

Hound: We’ve met.

Tormund: “I want to make babies with her. Think of ’em, great, big monsters. They’ll conquer the world!”

Brienne, however, has not given Tormund as much as a kind glance in the show yet. We came across a few pictures of Kristofer Hivju, the actor who plays Tormund Giantsbane, without the characteristic Wildling beard he sports on the show, and we think these could make Brienne change her mind!

We must confess the 38-year-old Norwegian actor looks nothing like Tormund minus that beard. Grooming can change your look and how!

We wonder what Brienne, who clearly developed a crush on Jaime Lannister during their long voyage to King’s Landing, is thinking right now.

Jon snow’s suicide mission was bound to fail from the beginning. It’s just his luck that whenever he is on the verge of dying, someone comes to his rescue. Jon Snow is the Matt Damon of ‘Game of Thrones’. Towards the end of the 6th episode of season 7, when Snow is left alone with the White Walkers and almost dead, Benjen Stark magically appears out of nowhere.

This Is How Benjen Stark Magically Appeared To Rescue Jon Snow From The White Walkers

The hooded rider on a dark horse flashing a flaming chain, Uncle Benjen cut a fierce picture, as we heaved a sigh of relief, and so did Jon Snow. Of course, he stayed behind to stall the White Walkers and let Jon get away.

UNCLE BENJEN…….WE ALL LOVE YOU. GODDAMN IT #GameOfThrones pic.twitter.com/61vwOLNfHV

— New Life (@LordBalvin) August 21, 2017

We were left wondering how he appeared at the right time and the right place to save his Stark nephew. If you remember, he had earlier rescued Bran and Meera from the White Walkers and revealed it was because “the Three-Eyed Raven requested it.”

Bran, who is now the Three-Eyed Raven, can not only warg into creatures, he can also communicate and warn someone. This time he sent Uncle Benjen to rescue Jon.

This Is How Benjen Stark Magically Appeared To Rescue Jon Snow From The White Walkers © HBO

Benjen Stark has been destined to stay beyond the Wall because he was attacked by a White Walker who pierced him with an ice sword. He tells Bran and Meera that the Children of the Forest saved him by shoving dragonglass in his chest. Though he did not become a Wight, he can’t cross the Wall that is protected by magic spells to prevent the dead from passing through it.

Although Benjen disappears among the White Walkers with his flaming chain, we believe he will be not be dead so easily. Considering he is already half-dead and seems to have a connection with the Three-Eyed raven, we think there’s more to him than meets the eye.

Did you see that Jon’s sword which sir Mormont gave it to him opens eyes when jon comes out.#hbospoileralert #GameofThrones7 #GoTS7 #GoT pic.twitter.com/qvkTdJ6lBN

We all heard about Jon Snow’s sword Longclaw having a life of its own, after we saw how it opened its eyes when Snow emerged from the icy water. Fans theorise it was Bran who had warged into the sword. Some also say it is possible that the sword has a trapped soul, and the only soul that can possib;y still be alive is Azhor Azhai’s. This could be a powerful hint about Jon Snow being Azhor Azhai.

We’re sure by now you all have seen the 6th episode ‘Beyond The Wall’ of ‘Game of Thrones’ and are going through a lot of emotions. Shock has given way to grief which has further given way to rage, and right now we are facepalming ourselves. Let’s take a moment to mourn the beautiful creature we lost in this episode and also the death of sanity in the show.

Daenerys And Jon End Up Giving A Dragon To The Night King© HBO

Like seriously, all this was for Cersei? To convince her that White Walkers exist? Cersei, who was already on the brink of a defeat at the hands of Daenerys Stormborn with a Dothraki army and 3 dragons. Cersei, who had only one ally by her side – her brother Jaime. Jon Snow went on a suicide mission to make the southerners believe there were White Walkers? They couldn’t come up with any other plan, any other alternative to win this war. That’s even more naïve than Ned Stark’s decision to confront Cersei about the real parentage of her children in Season 1.

Daenerys And Jon End Up Giving A Dragon To The Night King

Guess who has the last laugh now? Without raising a finger, Cersei Lannister has become the reason behind the death of a dragon. We wonder what her reaction will be when Jon Snow presents her with the captured Wight.

If there’s one question that has been on the mind of every ‘Game of Thrones’ fan, it’s this: why the hell have the White Walkers not reached the Wall yet, when Jon Snow has been hopping up and down the Seven kingdoms with the speed of light?! Convenient plot twists and creative license is one thing but sheer neglect of logic another!

Jon Snow Has Been Travelling At The Speed Of Light & We Need To Talk About It © HBO

Jon Snow, who knows nothing, has travelled from Winterfell to Dragonstone, and back to the Wall and then again back to Winterfell. Oh and he also went to Bear Island to meet with Lyanna Mormont. But in the meanwhile, the White Walkers barely managed to travel within the North!

Jon Snow Has Been Travelling At The Speed Of Light & We Need To Talk About It © HBO

A Reddit user has drawn a map charting Jon Snow’s travels and compared them with the distance the White Walkers have travelled. Jeez! The White Walkers walk real slow!

Jon Snow Has Been Travelling At The Speed Of Light & We Need To Talk About It© Reddit_Steve H.

One look at the map and you’d wonder if Jon Snow has teleporting powers. Or maybe he has a flying ship or something.

Jon Snow Has Been Travelling At The Speed Of Light & We Need To Talk About It

In the previous seasons in the show, foot journeys have been incredibly long. Jaime and Brienne’s journey to King’s Landing takes quite a few episodes and adventures. So does Arya and the Hound’s. But not the king in the North.

Jon Snow Has Been Travelling At The Speed Of Light & We Need To Talk About It

We understand that the makers had to wrap up the season in just 7 episodes and there was too much to pack in each episode, but at least justify the huge difference in speed! Maybe show that the White Walkers are being stalled by the Children of the Forest who are trying to help the humans by giving them more time to prepare. It would have been a perfect explanation of why the White Walkers have still not reached the Wall. The Children of the Forest could have laid an invisible magic fence which the White Walkers are not able to cross, and the Night King finally breaks it? Anything!

‘Game Of Thrones’ never fails to blow us away. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, that you’ve formulated enough number of fan theories to predict the course of the plot, the ‘Game of Thrones’ makers sweep the carpet from under you, leaving you gasping for breath at the twist.

Fan Theory Suggests Bran Is Actually The Night King And It's So Legit We're Blown Away © HBO

The latest in fan theories about ‘Game of Thrones’ has left us shaken, to say the least. The Three-Eyed Raven, who roams around in the body of a creepy Bran, hurling random half-baked visions at people, could possibly also be the Night King. Now before you shrug your shoulders and dismiss this, read the explanation that is so sound, we’d be disappointed if it isn’t true.

Fan Theory Suggests Bran Is Actually The Night King And It's So Legit We're Blown Away © HBO

So the theory says that Bran, in order to stop the Night Walkers once and for all decides to warg into the body of the Night King BEFORE he became the Night King! The Children of the Forest had chosen a human to turn into the Night King and Bran goes back into the past – yep, some major time-travel – to warg into the human who will become Night King.

Fan Theory Suggests Bran Is Actually The Night King And It's So Legit We're Blown Away © HBO

However, he is not able to stop the event from occurring and the human ends up as a captive of the Children of the Forest. Bran tries to escape the human body but is unable to do so before the Children of the Forest force a piece of dragonglass into the heart of the human. Bran is trapped in the Night King’s body.

Fan Theory Suggests Bran Is Actually The Night King And It's So Legit We're Blown Away

A conversation between Leaf and Bran in the show can be read in this context as a possible hint at what was coming. When Bran asks Leaf why the Children of the Forest created the White Walkers,

Leaf says: “We were at war. We were being slaughtered. Our sacred trees cut down. We needed to defend ourselves.”

Bran: “From whom.”

Leaf: “From you. From men.”

it is possible for a warg to get stuck into the body of the humananimal he warges into if they die. When the Night King changes form from human into a White Walker, Bran is forever trapped into his body. Perhaps this is the reason the Night Walker is able to touch Bran.

What perplexes us is if Bran indeed becomes the Night King, why will the White Walkers keep moving ahead? Why will they declare war on the Seven kingdoms? Wouldn’t Bran be able to control the Night King’s mind? Or maybe this is how the show will end, how the White Walkers will be stopped. And with the death of the Night King, Bran too will be dead.

Things have been going pretty well for the mother of the dragons lately, barring the moment Drogon is shot. Everyone is rallying behind her and Cersei is left with practically nobody. With 3 dragons and a Dothraki army, there’s nothing much that can baffle you. But if fan theories are to be trusted, then there’s some tough times ahead for Dany.

Daenerys Might Soon Be Betrayed By A Close Ally© HBO

According to the prophecy that was made for her in Qarth, Daenerys would be betrayed 3 times : once for gold, once for blood, and once for love. She was betrayed for blood when a Dothraki witch takes revenge for her people’s blood by killing Daenerys’ son on the pretext of saving Khal Drogo’s life.

Daenerys Might Soon Be Betrayed By A Close Ally© HBO

Then she was betrayed for gold when it is revealed that Jorah Mormont had been sent by Robert Baratheon to spy on her. Of course, Jorah comes around and becomes her biggest protector later.

Daenerys Might Soon Be Betrayed By A Close Ally© HBO

So, that leaves being betrayed for love, which she hasn’t been yet. It is speculated that it might be Jon Snow – they are already falling in love – who will have to sacrifice her to fulfill the prophecy of Azhor Azhai. Considering he will have a whole kingdom to protect from the White Walkers, it might be the only way. But Jon Snow is no Stannis, and he could refuse to do the unthinkable.

Daenerys Might Soon Be Betrayed By A Close Ally© HBO

If not Snow, it could be Tyrion too. His sympathy towards his brother Jaime was well evident during the battle scene in ‘Spoils of War’ when he is desperately wishing for the latter to flee. The mother of dragons has been ignoring her Hand for far too long now and Tryion’s role has been pushed to the background. The character is being under-utilised and we think the reason could be a future betrayal.

Daenerys Might Soon Be Betrayed By A Close Ally© HBO

Another close ally whose betrayal would affect Daenerys is Missandei. There has been some character development for her and her conversations with Ser Davos about her hometown subtly push towards a sub-plot that may unfold in the future. The girl is in love with Greyworm and she is also sure that if she were to leave Daenerys, the queen would be perfectly okay with it. The lure of starting a family and settling down in her hometown could be greater than serving a queen.

The 5th episode, with its unending plot twists, left us gasping for breath. As if that’s wasn’t enough, the preview of the next episode is spine-chilling. ‘Eastwatch’ ended with Jon Snow marching beyond the wall with his band of the best fighters in the land. It’s a random rallying together of men who would have murdered each other in cold blood on any other day. But as the trailer says, ‘Death is the enemy’. As long as you are breathing, you are on the same side.

We still think it’s a suicide mission – venturing out beyond the Wall to capture a White Walker, with a handful of men! They may be great fighters but they are fighting against thousands of dead men! Come on now, we thought Jon Snow had better sense. He really doesn’t know anything!

If the footage from the next episode is anything to go by, this one will be one nerve-wrecking episode that will have you at the edge of your seats throughout.

If it scares the Hound, there is little hope

Now really, was there a need to take such a huge risk, all for convincing Cersei?! Why couldn’t Daenerys just defeat Cersei first, take the Iron Throne and then send help to fight the White Walkers? Wouldn’t that be quicker, easier and less fatal?

Aug 142017

The fifth episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 was so heavy on plot twists, we had to pause to take breathers. Like hello, slow down! Long lost characters are re-introduced, Jon Snow’s Targaryen identity is almost revealed, Cersei throws a knock-out of a news at Jaime, Arya and Sansa are already on the brink of a fall out. Jon Snow is already back in the north and beyond the Wall , though we are still trying to adapt to the sudden change in the weather, because we were still at Dragonstone two scenes before that. So much has happened in this episode of ‘Game of Thrones’, it’s only legit to list out the best plot twists and what they mean.

Jon Snow Pets A Dragon

The 5th Episode Of ‘Game Of Thrones' Was The Mother Of Plot Twists© HBO

The moment finally happened. Dany’s dragon takes a liking to Jon Snow, just like his mother. Face to face with Drogon, Jon caresses his rocky forehead without being burnt. We can see the fire in Drogon’s eyes and it’s clear Jon is meant for bigger things. Oh come on, out with it already!

Gilly stumbles upon something that could threaten Daenerys’ claim to the throne

The 5th Episode Of ‘Game Of Thrones' Was The Mother Of Plot Twists© HBO

A seemingly insignificant conversation fans might have missed, this one’s even better than Jon petting the dragon. Reading out trivia picked from books, Gilly unknowingly stumbles upon an important piece of information, one that could challenge Daenerys’ claim to the Iron Throne. Gilly mentions a Prince ‘Ragger’ who annuls his marriage and get married to another woman in a secret ceremony in Dorne. No points for guessing it’s Rhaeger Targaryen who marries Lyanna Stark and they are Jon Snow’s parents.

This means that Jon is not  bastard but a trueborn Targaryen, and becomes the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. His claim becomes stronger than Daenerys’ because kings are given preference over queens in Westeros.

Cersei will have a fourth child?!

The 5th Episode Of ‘Game Of Thrones' Was The Mother Of Plot Twists© HBO

Now that was unexpected! This is a plot twist we didn’t see coming. Or is it another of Cersei’s schemes to bring back Jaime from the house of skepticism. Cersei was told in the prophecy that she would have 3 children, all of which would die before her.

Now Cersei is either proving the prophecy wrong or she will probably not carry the child to term. She is already willing to strike a deal with Daenerys, something that will buy her time to come up with a plan to win the war. With news of the pregnancy, she also wins back Jaime who was increasingly growing skeptical of her ways.

Also, erm.. where is Euron?

Littlefinger Is Back With His Sly Tricks

The 5th Episode Of ‘Game Of Thrones' Was The Mother Of Plot Twists© HBO

Littlefinger has finally begun to weave a web of lies and deceit. While we thought Arya would expose Littlefinger and catch him in the middle of a sly coverup, he turns the tables on her by leading her to Sansa’s little secret. The scroll Arya finds dates back to the time when Sansa was in King’s Landing and literally, under house arrest, and Cersei had forced her to write a letter to Robb tell him their father had plotted to kill Joffery and had been charged of treason.

The 5th Episode Of ‘Game Of Thrones' Was The Mother Of Plot Twists© HBO

He is obviously trying to poison the relationship between the two sisters, something that wasn’t exactly perfect before they left Winterfell in the first place. There was already some tension between them when Arya confronts Sansa about her failure to defend Jon Snow in front of the lords.

Gendry is Back

The 5th Episode Of ‘Game Of Thrones' Was The Mother Of Plot Twists© HBO

We must confess we were curious about the whereabouts of Gendry. The lad has grown and knows how to wield a hammer. But his eagerness to run to the North to fight the White Walkers, creatures he has never seen, is a little too unreal and forced. For someone who probably has never even met King Baratheon, his biological father, trying to chat up with Jon like old family friends looks a little silly, to be honest. But the man can kill. He doesn’t bat an eyelid before hammering down the two Lannister soldiers. We have a feeling he’ll be the first casualty of the White Walkers, just like the most enthusiastic member of a gang is always the first to die in a horror movie.

One more reunion besides Jon and Arya’s we are looking forward to: Gendry and Arya’s. Do we see a love story in the making?! Only if the White Walkers don’t kill him.
