The trial court acquitted his co-stars, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre, giving them the “benefit of doubt”. “Salman is one guy who is ready to take the rape

Actor-filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar believes everyone makes mistakes, but when his superstar friend Salman Khan is at fault, it is “blown out of proportion”. On Thursday, the Jodhpur court convicted Salman for killing two blackbucks in October 1998 when he was shooting for the film “Hum Saath Saath Hai”, and sentenced him to five years in jail. The trial court acquitted his co-stars, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre, giving them the “benefit of doubt”. “Salman is one guy who is ready to take the rap.

He is ready to take the rap, the blame (on himself). He is human at the end of the day. Who doesn’t make a mistake? I definitely make a mistake. But when he makes a mistake, it is blown out of proportion,” Manjrekar told PTI. Manjrekar and Salman have worked together in films such as “Wanted”, “Dabangg”, “Ready” and “Jai Ho” among others. “Salman is more than a friend to me. I don’t know what transpired (in the case), the courts are there to decide. But today if you ask me what is your wish, I would say he should be released tomorrow.

He doesn’t deserve to be in jail. From two days my wife is asking me what is going to happen, and I am like, he will be out soon,” he added. The “Vaastav” director believes celebrity status of the “Sultan” actor made things difficult for him. “Maybe a thousand people who have hunted an animal have got away. Hunting is legal in places like (South) Africa and other countries. There are (rules) like you can’t kill a female animal, can’t kill young leopard or lion, so they decide what you are going to kill, they see the balance is maintained.

“Wherever hunting is legal, animals thrive. Here (in India) guys don’t know what they are killing, they go and kill on the sly…. kill any animal randomly,” he said. Manjrekar has not met the Khan family yet as he feels it is not the right time to discuss the verdict with them. “It is not the time to talk about it. There are times when you should let the family bear the grief alone, it is not that if you ask them about it, it is going to reduce their pain,” he said.

Mika Singh offers his opinion on Salman Khan’s sentencing in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case

Mika Singh

Singer Mika Singh has sided with superstar Salman Khan, who has been sentenced to a five-year jail term for blackbuck poaching in 1998. He said laws in the country should be same for everybody. Singh, who has sung numbers like “Aaj ki party”, “Ready” and “440 Volt”, on Friday shared a clipping of a man getting beaten up by a group of men.

“I respect our legal system but law should be same for all. If Salman Khan can be convicted though he is celebrity, then such people who are assaulting a poor guy and making a video of their criminal act should also be punished… They are safe because they are not Salman Khan,” Singh captioned the image.

A Jodhpur Court on Thursday found Salman, 52, guilty under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 for killing two blackbucks, an endangered species, hunting of which is prohibited by law. The incident took place in Kankani village near Jodhpur on October 1-2, 1998, during the shooting of Bollywood film “Hum Saath Saath Hain”.

Actor Sean Penn and actress Robin Wright’s son Hopper was arrested for possession of marijuana and mushrooms. Hopper was arrested earlier this week in Nebraska. He is currently detained at a jail in Hamilton County, Nebraska, reported radaronline.com. A representative for the Nebraska State Patrol said Hopper was arrested on April 4 afternoon after a patrol trooper stopped a vehicle for failing to signal. Hopper, 24, and his actress girlfriend Uma Von Wittkamp, 26, were in the vehicle.

“During the traffic stop, the trooper detected drug activity and searched the vehicle. Troopers found 14 gm of marijuana, 4 amphetamine pills and 3 gm of psilocybin mushrooms,” the representative said.

Wittkamp was arrested for possession of controlled substance (amphetamine) and possession of a controlled substance (psilocybin).

Meanwhile, Hopper was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance (psilocybin) and possession of marijuana (one ounce or less).

The bail for Hopper is set at $25,000, according to a jail spokesperson, reported radaronline.com.

Sean is reportedly furious.

A family insider said the actor “does not even want to talk to him (Hopper) at the moment”.

“He is pissed off and feels like he let him down and threw all of the opportunities that he gave him down the toilet. Hopper looks up to his father a lot and he was doing really well after his latest stint in rehab, but he recently fell in with the wrong crowd in Los Angeles.

“And he picked up right where he left off in his addiction,” the source said.

Sean, however, will be giving Hopper “one more chance and has ordered him to go rehab as soon as he is out”, added the source.

Former Bigg Boss contestant, Sofia Hayat took to her Instagram account to write her thoughts on Salman Khan being imposed with 5-year jail sentence in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case

Salman Khan, who got convicted by a Jodhpur court in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, has received support from many Bollywood stars. Some of them even visited his residence to meet the superstar’s family to express their concern. However, one actress who is happy with the 5-year imprisonment sentence levied on the actor is Sofia Hayat.

Sofia Hayattook to her Instagram account to express her happiness on Salman’s decision by the court. The ex-Bigg Boss contestant has mentioned that she’s isn’t afraid of talking against Salman Khan and that the actor deserved it.

This is what she wrote:

Karma gets you in the end…Many people are afraid to talk against Salman because they think he controls Bollywood. Well, I no longer serve my ego and therefore am not afraid to speak up. I am so happy that Salman has gone to jail for what he has done. Animals are so important to this planet and doing what he did and then mocking it was a huge act of his own self importance. Lots of children look up to him, and he has a responsibility to the young people. What is he showing the world when he does things like this? What lessons is he giving them? That it is ok to break the law, to kill animals and then mock it because he is a celebrity? In any western country he would have been vilified for this and the drink driving deaths that he caused. He has then reinvented himself as a charitable man to try and compensate his karma. Today, India has shown that no matter who you are, if you break the law, you are no bigger than the law. I have heard so many young people in India speak about how they are afraid to go to the police about crimes committed by others because they watch the tv and see how people with money and status get away with it because they have paid off the police or the judge or the lawyers. This happened to me when Armaan Kohli paid off 2 of my lawyers so that I could not continue with the case, Dolly Bindra also told me that Armaans family are powerful enough to put drugs in my bag at the airport and I would be in Jail. I had to then drop the case as all the lawyers I hired were paid off. Today, Hindustan can stand strong and hold its head up high to the world and show them that justice is held up in India, and today, all the poor people have been shown a glimmer of hope in their own fight for justice against those who have manipulated the law. Today I can say Hindustaan Zindabaad!

Meanwhile, the others accused in the case – Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and a local, Dushyant Singh – were acquitted after being given “the benefit of doubt.”

Salman Khan shot and killed the blackbucks, from the antelope family, in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the night of October 1, 1998 during the shooting of the film Hum Saath Saath Hain. Blackbuck is an endangered animal and included in the schedule-I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act-1972. All the actors were in a Gypsy that night with Salman in the driving seat. He spotted a herd of blackbucks and killed two of them, prosecution lawyer Mahipal Bishnoi said.

After anchoring Pro-Kabaddi league matches, Aahana Kumra to host a travel-cum-cricket show

Aahana Kumra

Lipstick Under My Burkha (2016) actor Aahana Kumra is hosting a travel-cum-cricket show. She will be crisscrossing the country and striking a conversation with Indian Premier League fans during the tourney, which runs from April 7 to May 27. In 2016, Aahana had anchored the Pro-Kabaddi league matches.

Aahana Kumra in an interview with IANS said it is the small screen that keeps her afloat in an expensive city like Mumbai. Listing the pros and cons of working in a web series — a popular platform gaining momentum — and TV, which is an evergreen medium of entertainment, Aahana told IANS: “As an actor, you enjoy the medium, the experience, and it also gives you the opportunities to work with the actors you want to work with. There is no restriction in terms of scripts… It is a very liberating space. But, of course, the longevity is not so much. “It is not like TV. TV really pays your bills, makes sure you have a house in Mumbai. It gives you the kind of sustainability that you need in Mumbai,” she said.
