Mumbai,Dec 15:Actor-filmmaker Arbaaz Khan says his wife and co-producer Malaika Arora Khan has been his constant pillar of support throughout the making of Dabangg 2, which he directed.”She is my wife and she is the co-producer of the film. Right from the time I started making the film – from the subject of the film, to finalising the actors, where I will be shooting… I used to discuss everything with her,” Arbaaz told IANS.

“She was there as more of a sounding board. I wouldn’t say she was creatively involved in the films, because that’s not her job, that is not her domain and that is not what I wanted her to do. She is my wife and she is as much as the producer as I am,” he added.

Arbaaz says it is a natural progression for him to turn director.

“It’s a very natural progression in the film industry. People want to do different things. I always wanted to make a movie.

It is just that there was an opportunity to be an actor early in my career, but I always at some stage wanted to make my movie, produce and direct a film and when the opportunity came to me, I had to avail it,” he said.

Dabangg 2, releasing Dec 21, features Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Prakash Raj.

Veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor feels comfortable working in a film, as it gives him ample time to work on his character.

Cinema more satisfying than TV: Pankaj Kapoor (© Varinder Chawla)

Mumbai: Pankaj Kapoor, who was part of trendsetting shows like ‘Karamchand’, says that he consciously moved away from television about a decade ago because the medium was changing and that working in films is far more satisfying.

“About eight to nine years back, I decided not to do television actively because I felt the face of television was changing and someone like me would not be able to relate to the kind of work that is done today,” Pankaj told us.

“Also, I felt that it was straining and tiring because you had long hours of work and whatever you did was lost in 20 minutes,” he added.

A movie, on the other hand, gives an actor ample time to work on his character, says the 58-year-old, who has been a part of shows like ‘Zabaan Sambhal Ke’, ‘Office Office’ and ‘Mohandas B.A.L.L.B.’, besides ‘Karamchand’.

“Your work as an actor (in TV) is almost as much as you do for any film. Films are made… within lesser hours and you get more time to research and work on your character. It is a lot more satisfying experience because whether the film does well or not, at some point it will be seen by various people in various kinds of medium,” he said.

Nevertheless, he is still open to small screen projects.

“I am open to the medium of TV as an actor, though not with the kind of face television has right now. But if there is something which is different in which the director and actor are given the independence that is required, then I will do it.

“If worst comes to worst and it becomes a matter of survival, I am being very honest about it, I might have to look into it,” said the actor, whose directorial debut ‘Mausam’ failed to evoke expected box-office response.

Asked if he would like to revive any of his old TV series, Pankaj said: “I don’t like repeating what I have done before, so it depends… If I am not doing anything and the script has really something nice and juicy and has a challenge for me, then I might consider it.”

Versatility is something he would like to maintain throughout his career.

“Even at this stage of my life, I am looking at doing more roles and different parts where I can create different people. My goal as an actor is to create different people and to interpret them for my audiences,” he said.

The repertoire of Pankaj, a National School of Drama alumnus, includes successful plays, films and TV shows. He will next be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’, in which he has kept up his reputation of giving the audience something new every time.

The movie, featuring young talents like Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma, will hit the screens on January 11, 2013.

Mumbai: After a successful debut this year with ‘Ishaqzaade’, Arjun Kapoor is now looking forward to 2013, which he believes will be a big year for him.

“I have been shooting for ‘Aurangzeb’. I start ‘Gunday’ soon, I have not started shooting for it. I am very excited for ‘Gunday’, it’s one of my most exciting projects. ‘Aurangzeb’ I am on the verge of completing it. It’s been very interesting, I have been shooting for it for the last three months. ‘2 States’ starts after January, little bit of time left for it,” the 27-year-old said at an event.

Actor Akshay Kumar is, reportedly, all set to star in the Hindi remake of ‘Jatt & Juliet’.

Mumbai: The remake rights of ‘Jatt & Juliet’, the biggest hit in Punjabi cinema, has been secured by producers Himesh Reshammiya and Rakesh Upadhyay – the team that has just released the comic romp ‘Khiladi 786’.

It, therefore, comes as no surprise to hear that Akshay Kumar is likely to play the lead in the Hindi adaptation of the film.

The all-time blockbuster of a Punjabi romance starred Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa as a rustic Punjabi and a sophisticated fashion designer who keep bumping into one another in Canada.

The Punjabi film has been itching for a Bollywood interpretation. We now hear that following ‘Khiladi 786’, Reshammiya and Upadhyay have joined hands to do ‘Jatt & Juliet’ in Hindi.

The Hindi remake would be directed by Anurag Singh, who directed the Punjabi smash hit.

Upadhyay, while admitting that the ‘Jatt & Juliet’ remake would start early next year, refrains from commenting on the cast.

“At the moment, I wouldn’t like to comment on the cast. But yes, Himesh and I are going ahead with two projects. One of them is a thriller and the other is the remake of ‘Jatt & Juliet’. The Punjabi film was also produced by Himesh and me. We’ll do the remake on a much more lavish scale. But the basic plot of ‘Jatt & Juliet’ is so endearing it needs no embellishment in Hindi.”

Press him about Akshay Kumar’s presence in the remake, and Upadhyay laughs: “We’ve just delivered a film that has been immensely liked. So Himesh, Akshay and I would definitely not like to break the team. Like I said, until all the formalities are completed it would be unwise to talk about the casting.”

Reshammiya and Upadhyay intend to continue producing films together.

“After ‘Khiladi 786’, Himesh has 10 hardbound scripts ready. We’re both workaholics. We’ll continue to collaborate on mass-entertainment films. We want to make the kind of films that make people smile and laugh.”

Actor Arshad Warsi laments the fact that film-making in Bollywood has become a business.

Spirit to just make a film no longer exists: Arshad (© Varinder Chawla)

Mumbai: While there have been a lot of positives in the Indian film industry in the last 100 years, the spirit to just make a film is lost in the race to make money, feels actor Arshad Warsi.

“We have not left the things that our industry is known for – songs, music and a total entertainment film – and that’s a good thing. Other good thing is that technologically we have advanced in these 100 years. Today there is Shah Rukh’s ‘Ra.One’, so technologically we have advanced, so it is good,” the 44-year-old said at an event.

“But the bad thing about it is that somewhere we have lost the spirit to make a film. Today it has become a business which is bad. So there has been good and bad in these 100 years,” he added.

Arshad, who was last seen in ‘Double Dhamaal’ in 2011, currently has a lot of films in hand.

“From January next year, I will be doing ‘Jo Bhi Karva Lo’ which is a sweet, romantic comedy, after that I will do ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ then Raju’s (Rajkumar Hirani) ‘Peekay’ and then there is ‘Chambal Safari’,” Arshad said.

“There are many more films, also listening to some more scripts. So the next year is very much busy for me,” he added.

Besides these, Arshad is also doing ‘Bhaiyyaji Superhit’, ‘Total Dhamaal’, ‘Jolly L.L.B.’ and ‘Golmaal 4’.

Actor Boman Irani, who was last seen in ‘Joker’, bats for Bollywood scriptwriters.

Good writing can pull audiences to theatres: Boman (© Varinder Chawla)

Mumbai: Boman Irani believes that while writers are not given much importance in Bollywood, they are the ones who can actually lead the audiences into a theatre.

“In India, especially in our films, we don’t respect the writers, not in the credit titles or anywhere else… we don’t accept the size of their contribution. We believe that a writer eventually does not lead the audience into a theatre,” the 52-year-old said at the launch of author Sanjay Chopra’s book ‘Talespin’.

“But I feel that if writing is good and effective then the audiences will definitely come to the theatres,” he added.

Meanwhile, when asked if he believes in his hit film ‘3 Idiots’ philosophy of running after efficiency and not success in context of the Rs.100 crore-club, Boman said: “I believe in the thought of ‘3 Idiots’ but it would be wrong to say ‘running after Rs.100 crore’ because ‘3 Idiots’ also raked in Rs.300 crore… the fact of the matter is this.”

“But if you forget the money equation and work towards excellence, then you will definitely earn even more that Rs.100 crore… ‘3 Idiots’ is the greatest example of it,” he added.
