We all love a good aesthetic visual treat when we watch our favourite Marvel superheroes and villains kick some ass on the screen , right? They take the credit, the money and even enjoy a crazy fan following. However, we don’t realise that it is their body doubles who make them look cool on the screen. You see them but you don’t recognise them at all.

The whole anger of Hulk and the way he throws away people and objects with the same intensity is courtesy his body double, Anthony Molinari.

Undoubtedly, Salman Khan’s ‘Race 3’ is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. But then that’s the case with every film starring Bhai. This week the trailer of the film was released, fans loved the high octane action sequences making it look like the perfect Bollywood paisa-vasool film.

Race 3(c) SKFIlms

However, the trailer started trending on the Internet for all the wrong reasons. While the trailer was high on action and cinematography, it came with a set of glitches that viewers couldn’t digest. Trolls and memes started and let’s agree to the fact that we all enjoyed it!

Race 3(c) SK Films

First, it was Salman Khan’s hand missile shot (only bhaijaan can shoot missiles so effortlessly), then Jacqueline Fernandez and Salman Khan literally flying in the air. But the epic thing that’s ruling the Internet is Daisy Shah’s dialogue in the film – “Our Business Is Our Business, None Of Your Business”. Yeah, we did rewind that bit to believe what we were hearing.

Race 3(c) SKFilms

For all those who didn’t know who she was till date, now they surely do. It just took a troll to make Daisy Shah the Internet star and we bet she is thanking her stars.

Before you see all the hilarious memes, take a look at the dialogue from the trailer (01:00 onwards).

Two-minutes of silence for all those who are recovering from that dialogue.

Now you know what’s the whole meme-fest about!

Daisy Shah deserves an Oscar just for this 😂😂😭😭pic.twitter.com/K5E71bLQjv

Even before the movie has gone on the floors, Salman Khan’s ‘Bharat’ is creating a buzz for all the right reasons. And why not? After all, we will be seeing Priyanka Chopra back in B-town after two years. For some time now, ‘Bharat’ has been one of the most talked-about films as it will bring Salman Khan in a never-seen-before avatar.

Salman & Priyanka(c) Twitter

While many are thinking what is ‘Bharat’ all about, let us give you some information. It is an official adaptation of the South Korean movie, ‘Ode To My Father’. The movie will trace the history of the country from the 1950s till date. The subject sounds quite interesting and we bet it will be a treat for all bhai fans.

It is being said that this will be one of the most challenging roles to date for Salman Khan as his character will transform five times and we will see his journey from the age of 18 to 70. Age reducing technique & prosthetics will be used to make him look young in the movie. The thought of watching Salman in different shades us already making us pretty excited.

Img(c) YRF

All this while, we knew that Salman will be seen romancing Priyanka and Disha, but now joining the cast is Katrina Kaif. While people here find romancing one actor on-screen difficult, Salman is all set to put the screen on fire with three most desirable divas.

img(c) Instagram

Disha will be romancing the teenage Salman, while Priyanka and Katrina will be seen with him during the mid-age. It goes without saying that Priyanka will have more screen time compared to other actresses. Well, people totally love Katrina and Salman together, but we are more excited about seeing PeeCee and Salman reuniting after 14 years.

Tiger Zinda Hai(c) YRF

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the movie is expected to go on floor by mid-2018 and the team is prepping up for the shoot already.

Sargun Mehta feels the reason for the popularity of Punjabi films in the UK and their growing popularity elsewhere in the world is that they connect

Actress Sargun Mehta, who has starred in Punjabi films like “Love Punjab” and “Angrej”, says the UK is one of the biggest markets for the genre.” She had attended the first edition of BritAsia Punjabi Film Awards, presented by Metatron Global Fund, here on May 12. The winners, including her, were acknowledged for their work and contribution to putting Punjabi cinema on the global map.

“The Punjabi film industry is a growing industry, and we need people to watch, love and support our movies. This is the only way the industry will grow. And I’m happy that the UK is one of the biggest markets for the Punjabi film industry,” Sargun Mehta said in a statement to IANS.

She feels the reason for the popularity of Punjabi films in the UK and their growing popularity elsewhere in the world is that they connect. “When we are out of India, we crave for Indian food, we crave something like going back ‘home’. So anybody outside of Punjab who watches our films, they tell them a narrative about the old Punjab or how their grandparents used to live in Punjab or how and what happened during, before or after Partition.

“It’s a great way to know these stories, and we are storytellers. I think when you tell a story with a heart, it connects with the audience,” she said. She won the Best Actress award for her work in Lahoriye.

Other winners were – Best Debut Performance: Tarsem Jassar, Best Female Playback Vocalist: Nimrat Khaira, Best Male Playback Vocalist: Diljit Dosanjh, Best Supporting Actress: Nirmal Rishi, Best Supporting Actor: Karamjit Anmol, Best Film Song: “Dubai wale Shaikh” (“Manje Bistre”), Best Soundtrack: Sardar Mohammed, Best Cinematography: Chakravarty (“Sardar Mohammed”), Best Actor: Gippy Grewal (“Manje Bistre”), Best Director: Baljit Singh Deo (“Manje Bistre”), Best Comedy Performance: Karamjit Anmol (“Manje Bistre”) and Best Film: “Manje Bistre”.

Additionally, Satinder Sartaaj picked up the award for Outstanding Achievement, British Punjabi actress Mandy Takhar got the Inspiration Award and Punjabi comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi bagged the Special Recognition Award. British Punjabi Singer Gurj Sidhu said: “It was an honour to perform at UK’s first ever BritAsia Punjabi Film Awards in the city of Birmingham.”

“Punjabi cinema has gone to another level over the last five years and so much effort goes into films from acting to storylines to directing. It’s not something everyone can pull off. I respect all the artistes who are making films and keeping our mother tongue, Punjabi, alive.”

Tony Shergill, CEO, BritAsia TV, added: “The box office numbers for Punjabi movies have been consistently increasing to a surprising rise in the UK within the last two years particularly.” “Film budgets and production values have increased with films like ‘The Black Prince’, ‘Sajjan Singh Ranjroot’ and ‘Subedar Joginder Singh’ and slowly reaching at par with Bollywood budgets.

“The product itself has become much stronger and has become a healthy box office contender, competing and often surpassing parallel Bollywood films releasing on the same date in the UK.”

After a two-year lull since his last outing hit screens, John Abraham finds himself flooded with films. In an interview with Sunday mid-day, he talks about returning stronger every time he’s “written-off”

John Abraham
John Abraham

It has been two years since John Abraham last appeared on screen in an out-and-out actioner. Awaiting the release of his production, Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran, John confesses he’s going to be seen in an avatar that’s distinct from the commercial ventures he’s been part of. He talks to mid-day about working on the venture, and dealing with criticism every time his films tank at the box office.

Edited excerpts from the interview:

Your last, Force-2, hit screens two years ago. Have you consciously picked fewer projects over the years?
The idea was to select the right kind of subjects; case in point being Madras Café. People feel, that has been my best performance, and that is because I lived the film for a long time. I was convinced about it, and it brought out the best in me. Similarly, Parmanu is a special subject. When we narrated it to studios [to get co-producers on board] they said they hadn’t come across such an interesting subject in the past few years. I didn’t want to rush and sign something. I’d rather wait for a credible film. I have never been in a hurry, and have been relaxed about my work.

Suddenly, your calendar looks full. Is it an interesting phase in your career as you have four films (Parmanu, Satyamev Jayate, RAW and a film on the Batla House encounter) lined up.
It is exciting. I am enjoying my work. I signed these films over a period of time. I will soon complete Satyamve Jayate, after which, I have a two-month-long schedule of RAW. I didn’t plan to do so many films at one time. I didn’t sign them together. Sometimes, when I count the number of films that I am doing, I get nervous, but at the end of the day, I feel content. Currently, I am in a secure space.

Did you always want to come on board as producer on Parmanu?
Yes, I knew on the first day itself that I’d like to produce this film. Abhishek [Sharma, director] and I wanted to work together for a long time. He came to me and said, ‘Let’s make a comedy.’ But I asked him if he had another idea too. He told me he had a 10-page idea. When I read it, it played out in my head. I decided to develop the script under my production. My team worked on it.

You have only a two-week window to promote your films. Postponing it would have given you sufficient time to promote it better. Was that not crucial?
When the verdict [against former co-producer KriAaj Entertainment] came out on May 10, I told Abhishek that we would release the film on May 25, and launch the trailer on May 11, as it was the same day that the nuclear test took place 20 years ago. The film will pick up due to [positive] word of mouth, we didn’t think of postponing it. Every Indian will be proud of it as this incident made everyone take India seriously. We have tried to stick to reality, and have not taken commercial liberties.

You will also showcase real footage in the film. Did you have to take special permissions to do so?
We researched with the entire cadre that has been through this in real life. We met people who discussed the issue with our then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. We narrated our script to them [his office], and they even made corrections to it. I also met Arun Jaitley, who was the defence minister when we started shooting the film, because we were shooting in Pokhran, and needed special permissions to fly drones there. We had to get a go-ahead from the Border Security Force, which we obtained. We applied for permission three months in advance and everyone was co-operative.

The kind of films that you act in are different from those you produce. Is that a conscious decision?
I turned producer because I wanted to be part of a certain kind of cinema. But, as an actor, I was hungry to do hardcore commercial cinema. My next film, Satyamev Jayate, is purely a commercial film. The idea behind running this production house was not to drive it with my star presence. If a film requires Tiger Shroff, Varun Dhawan, Rajkummar Rao or anybody else, I wouldn’t have any qualms in approaching them.

How do you take to criticism?
My obituary is written every year [laughs]. [It seems] everyone has the right to have an opinion about my film. There has always been a phase in my career where, when one of my films works, the next two won’t. But, I have survived for 15 years now. It is nice to be written off so that you can come back stronger with a vengeance!

You take pride in being known as an action hero.
I’ve always said that action is something I enjoy doing. I have always had a fascination for the genre and, coupled with my love for fitness, this genre comes naturally to me. At the same time, I try and bring a variety of it and don’t like to be repetitive. Being tough is not always about bullying others. It is about being protective and that is what I am all about. I am the most non-violent guy you would meet [smiles].

Sure, the royal wedding was a big deal to the world. I mean, who doesn’t like the classic tale of a commoner marrying a real-life prince? However, Indians across the globe were excited about this mega event for a whole different reason, and the reason is Priyanka Chopra. When people found out that Bollywood’s very own desi girl was part of the guest list, it gave them a whole new reason to be interested in the wedding of the year.

However, this was not that big of a shocker, as everybody knows she’s close friends with the bride, Meghan Markle, and obviously had to be a part of the biggest day in her life.

She arrived yesterday and was already enjoying her stay in London and the fairytale wedding, that is happening, as I’m writing this.
