Actor Suhani Dhanki, who plays the role of Lachi in Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Porus, is passionate about Bharat Natyam. The actor says that the dance has brought in a lot of disciple in her life. “Classical dance is in itself a discipline. In order to learn the art, in addition to dedication to the guru, one needs an immense amount of persistence, perseverance, dedication, surrender, faith and unflinching confidence in oneself.

Dance has helped me bring peace and relieved me of stress in the most trying times. It has teaches you to cope with the pressure and put forth your best foot even when you know you’re beaten. It has also made me experience bliss that is absolutely liberating,” she says. Ask her who her favourite dancer is, and she says, “My Guru, of course! It was when I saw her dance and when she taught me the first ever basic logic behind the classical art, it compelled me to explore further. She has soul in her expression and joy in her movement,” she says.

In fact, Suhani recently performed as well. “It was my first solo performance for this year and it was one of the most challenging ones because I have been constantly shooting in Umbergaon. Plus right before that I was traveling for my honeymoon and was busy with my wedding. So the time to prepare has been quite less. But nonetheless the performance was very well received, and it’s delightful to see the audiences that appreciate classical dance,” she says.

After all the drama and fiasco, ‘Padmaavat’ has finally hit the theatres and the team can finally breathe a sigh of relief. While the Karni Sena are still protesting, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film has nothing that can hurt the proud Rajput clan’s sabhyata and sanskar and we can literally vouch for that.

Talking about the film, it has definitely received mixed responses. While some are going gaga over the production, some are disappointed with the script and flow of the film.

But, despite all this, everyone is still talking about Ranveer Singh’s performance. The actor is the saving grace of the film and is impeccable as Alauddin Khilji.

Deepika Padukone is stunning and there is no one who can say otherwise. But, when two heroes share the screen together, they are bound to be compared to each other. Who performed better is always the million dollar question.

Shahid Kapoor, who plays Maharana Rawal Singh has been receiving tremendous praise for his work by his fans. Though in my opinion, the actor looks more like a mannequin in the film with an oddly pursed mouth and face.

Fans have been tweeting to Shahid saying that this is one of his best performances till date and he has been responding to them whenever he can.

Today, the actor retweeted a fan’s video where the man says that his performance is better than Ranveer’s in the film!

Talking in the video, the fan said that despite having fewer scenes compared to Ranveer, Shahid is the real star. He aced his role and Ranveer Singh couldn’t match up to Shahid’s performance in the film.

If you have watched the film, let us know who you think performed better.

The nation has gone mad said a furious Asha Parekh, the veteran actress who saw Padmaavat a few days back at a special screening organised by the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali

asha parekh

The nation has gone mad,” said a furious Asha Parekh, the veteran actress who saw “Padmaavat” a few days back at a special screening organised by the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

“Believe me, I haven’t been able to sleep. I am in a trance after watching the film,” said Asha, an unabashed fan of Bhansali’s work.

“The work he extracts from his actors… I wish I could become 30 years younger to play a Bhansali heroine. But having said that, I would like to congratulate Deepika Padukone for her performance.

“If today I had to make a film on Rani Padmavati, I would cast none other but Deepika,” she said. Asha watched the special screening on Thursday.

“Her grace, when she dances or acts is simply commendable. Ranveer Singh is the epitome of evil… Every frame in the film is bewitching. And the ‘Ghoomar’ dance that they’ve objected to is so beautiful!” the veteran actress said.

“I wonder what the Karni Sena is shouting and raging about! There is nothing against the Rajputs in the film. Bhansali glorifies the community like no other film before.

“History will remember what Bhansali has achieved in ‘Padmaavat’. History will also remember what we allowed some section to do to him for mistakes that he never made…

“Haan ek ghalti unhone zaror kee (Yes, there is one mistake that he definitely committed). He dared to make a film that can rival Mughal-e-Azam in vision and scale,” she added.

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, who has registered his biggest opening day collection with “Padmaavat”, says most people had told him that a hero shouldn’t play the anti-hero

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, who has registered his biggest opening day collection with “Padmaavat”, says most people had told him that a hero shouldn’t play the anti-hero. “Padmaavat”, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, registered opening day collections of Rs 19 crore net, according to producers Bhansali Productions and Viacom18 Motion Pictures.

For Ranveer, whose previous best opening day records were for “Gunday” (Rs 16.12 crore net) and “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (Rs 16 crore net), playing a merciless anti-hero Alauddin Khilji was a gamble. Ranveer said in a statement to IANS: “It is extremely rare and overwhelming to get this kind of love from the audience. I’m grateful and touched that everyone has been so appreciative of my performance.”

While the critics have lauded that Ranveer has given one of the best villains to Bollywood through his performance, the actor said: “I will be honest — when I was offered Padmaavat, most people were of the opinion that a hero should not play the anti-hero. “But I believed otherwise. I saw Khilji as a challenge for me, as an actor. And I wanted to take the challenge up. I went with the vision of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and my instinct of what I could achieve with Khilji. “I’m happy that the audiences are seeing and loving a character that both Sanjay sir and I have worked on tirelessly for over two years to bring to life.”

Thrilled about the response, he said: “I took a big risk with this character and it’s wonderful to see my gamble pay off. This kind of validation gives one the confidence to take bigger and bigger risks, challenge stereotypes and continue to push the envelope in the realm of mainstream Hindi cinema. “I feel very happy and very fulfilled today.” The movie, based on 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s “Padmavat”, also stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor. It released on January 25 amid much brouhaha as the Shri Rajput Karni Sena protested over the alleged distortion of facts in the movie.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama “Padmaavat” got a steady start at the box office on Saturday, notwithstanding the widespread protests against the film with many theatres deciding against its screening

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama “Padmaavat” got a steady start at the box office on Saturday, notwithstanding the widespread protests against the film with many theatres deciding against its screening. The film based on 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s work ‘Padmavat’ got mired in controversy after various Rajput groups, including the Karni Sena, alleged that it distorted history, a claim denied by Bhansali.

Historians, however, are divided on whether Rajput queen Padmavati existed. The film had opened to select paid previews across the country on January 24 and collected Rs 5 crore, Viacom 18 sources said. On its opening day i.e. January 25, the film minted Rs 19 crore, they said.

The figures come at a time when the Multiplex Association of India, which represents around 75 per cent of multiplex owners in the country, had said that its members would not screen the film in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa. However, in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, not even the single-screen theatres dared to screen the film on the opening day.

In Goa, only a couple of single-screen theatres screened it amid police security. The film starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh was released yesterday after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared it last month with a ‘U/A’ certificate and five modifications, including the title change from “Padmavati” to “Padmaavat”.

While parts of north India saw violence owing to the release of the film, police maintained a tight vigil outside theatres in Mumbai screening the film. Some policemen were also deployed inside the cinema halls to thwart any attempt to disrupt the screening, said an official. The city police had also tightened security at the residences of Bhansali and Padukone here.
