Ranveer Singh’s fans were elated to see their favourite star perform an electrifying performance at the opening ceremony of Indian Premier League (IPL). Unfortunately, the Padmaavat star won’t be performing at the IPL anymore, courtesy – his shoulder injury. Ranveer took to his social media account to inform his fans about it and wrote, “Thank you for the good wishes everyone. I’m good. It’s just a labral tear in my left shoulder. I intend to come back stronger. Love you all (sic).”

Many of the stars and his fans wished him a speedy recovery. However, what caught our attention was Alia Bhatt‘s ‘get well soon’ tweet. She addressed Ranveer as ‘Tutu’, which indicates that is his nickname. Isn’t it as funky as Ranveer Singh himself!?

The Bajirao Mastani star had injured his shoulder during a football match. He has been strictly advised by doctors to avoid performing at the opening ceremony of the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season on April 7. Ranveer Singh was spotted with his arm in a sling over the weekend and even on Monday at Shankar Ehsaan and Loy’s recording studio in Bandra with Zoya Akhtar. He sustained injuries during a football match recently.

“After multiple medical checkups, the doctors have strongly advised Ranveer Singh not to perform at this year’s IPL opening ceremony in which he was doing the grand finale act. They feel his high-energy performance would only overstrain his shoulder and aggravate the injury,” the actor’s spokesperson said in a statement.

However, Ranveer’s film shoot has not been disrupted. “Ranveer will continue to shoot for Gully Boy as per its shooting schedule which is not physically strenuous since only performance-based talkie scenes are left to be shot,” the spokesperson added.

Looks like the cut-throat competition amongst the younger generation in the Bollywood market has started to gain visibility. A few days ago, Ranveer Singh became the talk of the town when a daily reported that the Padmaavat actor will get paid a whopping amount of Rs 5 crore for a 15-minute performance at the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, according to a latest report in DNA, it states that Varun Dhawan’s remuneration is higher than Ranveer, courtesy – Varun’s popularity amidst the masses.

Speaking of Varun Dhawan marching ahead than Ranveer, a source informed the daily that, “recently, there were reports that Ranveer has been given around Rs 5 crore for his IPL act. But the organisers have paid Varun much more and he’s the highest paid of the lot this year. His fee is somewhere close to Rs 6 crore, although the exact figure isn’t known.”

The source gave justification for this pay structure and termed Varun’s popularity and he connects with the masses and audience of every generation. “Varun has a great connect with the masses and among all the actors from the younger generation, he has the maximum number of chartbusters in his kitty. He will be dancing to his recent hits from Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Judwaa 2, as well as other films. Jacqueline and he might also perform a few songs together.”

On the professional front, Varun is balancing the promotion of his upcoming film October while shooting for his Yash Raj Film, Sui Dhaaga. Reportedly, he will take two days off from his hectic schedule to rehearse for his Indian Premier League (IPL) performance.

Apart from Ranveer Singh and Varun, other stars performing at the opening event are – Jacqueline Fernandez and Parineeti Chopra. They are sure to make the night a glittering affair.

Vivek Oberoi plays Vikrant Dhawan, a character allegedly inspired by former IPLâÂÂ?ÂÂ?chairman Lalit Modi (inset)

With the Virat Kohli-Anil Kumble war out in the open, Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani’s upcoming web series around a cricket premier league couldn’t have been better timed. Inside Edge is expected to strip the veneer off India’s favourite sport and its heroes to reveal the dark underbelly characterised by manipulation, corruption and power games.

THE BCCI, the national governing body for cricket in India, is allegedly concerned with how the game, and its governance is portrayed. An episode surrounding a powerful character, that sources say is fashioned around Lalit Modi, founder chairman and administrator of IPL, is of particular interest to them.

In 2010, Congress minister Shashi Tharoor resigned after allegations of improper influence during the investigations carried out by tax authorities to probe the IPL valued at $4.1 billion. Following this, Modi was suspended by the BCCI after the final match of the 2010 series, saying, he had “brought a bad name to the administration of cricket and the game itself”.

Insiders claim the producers may be looking at collaborating with the BCCI, especially since they need cricket footage for Season 2. A potential tie-up could translate into the governing body promoting the show via its official social media platforms.

Even as the producers refused to comment, production unit hand, on condition of anonymity, said, “The show couldn’t have come at a better time. It will serve as a mirror to the way cricket is administered. The show looks at ego clashes, the power struggle between team members and spot fixing. BCCI is keen that certain portions are toned down, and in return, might help with necessary permissions for Season 2.”

Actor Vivek Oberoi, who plays Vikrant Dhawan, who is allegedly inspired by Modi, had said in an earlier interview, “For Vikrant Dhawan, power is a drug. He is a mastermind, a puppeteer. This is a world far removed from the normal one. The world [portrayed in the show] is real, the people are fictional. Dhawan’s world revolves around match fixing. You get to see how it actually happens. It’s about how a bet is placed and how it affects every level [of stakeholders], from rookies to teams.” BCCI did not respond to an email sent by mid-day.
