Late Bollywood actor Om Puri

The eighth edition of the Jagran Film Festival is set to pay homgae to Om Puri with a screening of Seema Kapoor’s “Mr. Kabaadi”, the last film the actor shot before his death.

The movie will be the closing film at Jagran Film Festival on July 5.

“Mr. Kabaadi” is based on a Moliere play. It features actor Annu Kapoor in the lead and Puri plays the narrator in
the film.

Sarika, Vinay Pathak, Meenal Kapoor, Rajveer Singh, Kashish Vora, Ulka Gupta, Apurva Nain, Brajendra Kala are also
part of the cast.

“Mr. Kabaadi” has been shot in Lucknow, Jhalawar in Rajasthan and Mumbai.

The mega city and the capital of India, New Delhi is the host of the glittering opening ceremony and the first week of the 8th Jagran Film Festival 2017. The gala event was held on Sunday in the heart of South Delhi at Sri Fort Auditorium in presence of acclaimed actors, dignitaries, filmmakers, and cinema lovers. The occasion of ‘lighting the lamp’ and ‘cutting the ribbon’ was done in the company of eminent Bollywood personalities including *Rishi Kapoor, *Director and Producer pair – *Anand* *Surapur* *and **Punit* *Desai* and the Jagran official team.

During the ceremony, Mr. Rishi Kapoor followed by Hon. Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, director and producer of The Fakir of Venice, and later, the Morocco Ambassador staged their views on the Jagran Film Festival as a great initiative to bond people for the love of cinema. Lamp lighting ceremony was done by the whole group of eminent personalities present at the event.

The one-of-its-kind event saw a screening of new and bold narratives, including the special screening of ‘Fakir of Venice’ and the mega trailer launch of the most anticipated film of the year ‘Mom’, which opens in cinema this week. The critically acclaimed Director and Producer pair- *Anand* *Surapur* *and **Punit* *Desai* were present at the festival for the first screening of ‘The Fakir of Venice’. Day 1 also saw the screening of popular Bollywood films including Hindi Medium, Naam Shabana, and the rare European titles-Purple Horizons and Horses of God.

Jagran Film Festival has reached new heights from its inception in 2009 and today, it is marked as India’s only Traveling Film Festival, executed in a way to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries of India and unite them for the love of cinema. Jagran Film Festival has gained immense popularity and each year it attempts to present a treat for cinema lovers by showing unique and popular movies during the show.

Mr Basant Rathore, Senior Vice President, Jagran Prakashan said, “I am elated to be a part of the 8th edition of the Jagran Film Festival which is truly India’s only Traveling Film Festival. In 2017 too, a mix of famous and critically acclaimed movies will be seen and appreciated by lakhs of people across the country. On the screening list are famous movies including Hindi titles like Agneepath, Pink, Shivaay, and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story to share few names. Renowned English movies such as The Social Network and Black Cat to other foreign language movies like BRAVO VIRTUOSO and The Letter Box will be played across the different venues (of Jagran Film Festival) in India in 2017. The Kingdom of Morocco is the ‘Country Focus’ partner at the festival in 2017. This fresh association means a bunch of ten Moroccan feature retreat for cinema-lovers in the 16 cities of India.

Some prominent sections of the Festival are World Panorama, Indian Showcase, Jagran Shorts, Jagran Discovery, Country Focus and the Retrospective of films. The 2017 edition of Jagran Film Festival will traverse from Delhi to the Indian hinterlands of Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Dehradun, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bhopal, Indore, Hisar, Ludhiana, Meerut, Raipur, and culminate in Mumbai.

The 8th edition of Jagran Film Festival kicked off in New Delhi today. The film festival was inaugurated by veteran actors Rishi Kapoor, Sridevi, and Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Venkaiah Naidu. 

Prodded on what role he played in his son Ranbir Kapoor’s career, the 64-year-old actor said, “I don’t interfere in Ranbir’s career. I’m his dad not his secretary.”

Talking about his career, the acor said, “Mujhe career mei jaldi dhake lage aur shayad isliye maine khud ko sambhaal liya and that’s the secret of my success (I got setbacks quite early on in my career and maybe that’s why I learnt to take care of myself, that’s the secret to my success.)”

“I’ve even bought an award. Mai tha us kisam ka us waqt. Maine ki hai aisi galtiyaan and I accept it. (I was that kind of person and those were the time. I have committed mistakes and I accept them)”, he shared.

“I really don’t understand what is #gym got to do with #acting?”, Rishi comments on the current acting trends.

Talking about his debut, he said, “Bobby was a game changer for all of us.”

The film fest, which is being held at New Delhi’s Siri Fort Auditorium, will showcase over 130 movies from across the globe. 

Members of the jury include veteran actor Rishi Kapoor and director Sudhir Mishra.

The 8th edition of Jagran Film Festival that started today will see Morocco be the country of focus this year.

As part of this association, festival-goers in 16 Indian cities will get a chance to watch 10 Moroccan feature films. Moroccan cinema has undergone a drastic change since 1956, from documentaries and nation building films to more contemporary culture.

The festival will feature films like ‘Adios Carmen,’ ‘Androman,’ ‘Blood and Coal,’ ‘Dallas,’ ‘Pegasus,’ ‘Love in the Medina,’ ‘Sotto Voce,’ ‘The Narrow Frame of Midnight,’ ‘Horses of God,’ ‘Malak,’ ‘The Red Scarf,’ ‘Death For Sale’ and ‘The End.’

The Jagran Film Festival, India’s BIG Travelling Film Festival, is preparing to transcend boundaries to build awareness and create cultural affinity in its 8th year of organisation. The festival will have over 130 screenings that include a line-up of films from across the world.
