Filmmaker Hansal Mehta always comes up with unconventional stories that never fail to surprise us. He is not just an impressive director but also has a knack for narrating a tale in a unique manner. Since he announced ‘Omerta’, we all have been wondering how would he present the complex story of a terrorist on the big screen?

The intense drama is based on the true story of the life of terrorist Ahmad Omar Saeed Shaikh, who was freed in exchange for passengers of a hijacked Indian Airlines plane in 1999. The first look already gives us a glimpse of the terrifying story.

Rao this time will be seen as an antagonist. The story is not an easy one to bring to life, after all, it’s a narration of a wanted terrorist.

The first poster shows Rao kneeling down and praying with his hands cupped with a skull cap on his head. It is a strong attempt to show the two sides of a person who kills without caring about any consequence, while also being able to pray and worship devotedly. Hard picture to think of isn’t it? But it has been executed perfectly.

Knowing Hansal’s directing techniques, we know he is strongly trying to make a strong point. Sharing the poster, Rao took to his Twitter and wrote, “Here’s the official poster of #Omerta. Film releasing on 20th April. Trailer out in two days. @mehtahansal”

One look at the poster and you are bound to get impressed by how versatile Rajkummar is as an actor. At one point he can play an underdog you root for, then instantly make you despise him as a spineless fiance, and now he is here to leave you terrified to your bones. His multifaceted avatar is sure to make his counterparts turn green with envy.

Talking about the film Hansal Mehta says, “Omertà exposes state-sponsored terrorism and how it manipulates young minds into believing a sordid interpretation of Jihad. Terror is all about power. Packed screenings at film festivals around the world were met with shocked silence and often anger. I am expecting similar reactions from the audience to this shocking tale.”

Sharing views about the film, director Anurag Kashyap said,”Omertà is not an easy film to pitch, to sell .. about the most unsympathetic man.. a very hard character to play on screen and a harder film to make .. put together by the most courageous duo of @mehtahansal and @RajkummarRao . Looking forward to see it on screen..”

Shot in various real locations in India and London, the film openly talks about the country and state-sponsored terrorism and how dangerous it can be. Tracing through the terror attacks that shook the world like the 9/11 attack, 26/11 Mumbai terror strike and the beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl, the movie gives you an insight on how an evil mind works. Albeit terrifying, we’ve got to admit that the story does sound pretty engaging.
