As he launches report on child sexual abuse, Rahul Bose says society needs to battle social malaise head-on
While child sexual abuse (CSA) remains one of the biggest social issues of the country, it also unfortunately finds itself being swept under the carpet. Shocked by the fact that the last research on CSA in India was done in 2007, Rahul Bose and his organisation HEAL (Help Eradicate Abuse through Learning) conducted a research on the subject. Bose says it was disheartening to see that in a city of over 500 therapists, only 61 came forward to offer their insights for the research.

“I was neither amazed nor upset with the poor response. Considering The Foundation [his NGO, of which HEAL is a branch] has been tackling social issues for the past eight years, we had an idea how people react to it,” says Bose.
The actor-activist points out that most survivors don’t come out in the open fearing the stigma attached to it. “Next time, I will ask people for their stories on Twitter. These can be anonymous stories. I want more people to participate without the fear of stigma.” Bose recalls how Aamir Khan too had tried to make people aware of CSA through his show, Satyamev Jayate. He feels that stars lending their support to such causes make a difference.
