Do you know what’s worse than having coulrophobia – fear of clowns? Making people watch movies that further triggers that fear!
And Hollywood directors are doing exactly that by making clowns creepier and scarier with every movie. Other than ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ or ‘Justice League’; if there was any movie that ruled the realm of Hollywood last year, it was Stephen King’s ‘It’.
Before we could even realize it, Pennywise (who loves to feast on innocent kids) had already stirred up quite a storm globally and successfully managed to give us sleepless nights. And hauntingly eerie nightmares as a complementary gift.
Well, it looks like 2018 isn’t going to be any better for people who fear clowns. Just when we thought that the trend of ‘clown slaughtering people’ had died down, director Damien Leone came around and gave us this new blood-smeared clown-in-town, who is more vicious, cruel and creepier than anyone out there.
If I had to describe him in one line, I would call him Pennywise’s cruel cousin whose sole aim is to kill anyone who comes in front of him, especially the ones who are stranded on a road in the middle of the night. And I will take this opportunity to introduce the premise of ‘Terrifier’, a movie which truly lives up to its name.
In an interview with Looper, Leone spoke about the feature film and how different it is from the original short film, “One day, this idea just popped into my head about a young woman being harassed on a city bus in the middle of the night by this psychopathic clown.”
Leone further said, “His antics slowly go from playful threatening until he’s eventually trying to stick her with a needle. What could be more nightmarish? This essentially became the opening of my short film ‘The 9th Circle’ which was the first introduction to Art.” It’s funny how the makers thought that ‘Art’ is a perfect name for a killer clown like him.
Leone further said about this slasher film, “It’s longer, scarier, sicker, bloodier and has more victims.”
It’s fine if you don’t believe my words, but I am sure that after watching the trailer, you will think twice and look around multiple times just to ensure there’s no one around with a big sack on his shoulder.
‘Terrifier’ first premiered at the Telluride Horror Show Film Festival in 2016 and will be now available on digital download and DVD from April 9.
