‘Padmaavat’ just cannot stop with all the controversies. And all we are wondering is when will it end? Even though the highly anticipated movie finally got a clearance from the censor board recently, it still hasn’t been an easy ride.
There are still a bunch of people who are protesting against it and Sanjay Leela Bhansali is struggling with different aspects of the movie now as well. They are still trying their best to not offend anyone, but everyday some new problem crops up. So many cuts and the change of the name wasn’t enough, everyone just keeps finding new problems.
And, the latest one to join the long list of objections about the movie is Deepika Padukone’s midriff. Basically Deepika’s 3-inch bare mid-riff from the song ‘Ghoomar’ has been edited out using VFX effects, as per the instructions of the CBFC and the protests by Karni Sena. Why? Because showing any kind of skin is ‘unsanskari’, obviously. How can people control themselves after seeing Deepika’s stomach? It would have been just too much to handle.
Thank God they caught it in time, otherwise there would have been chaos in the theatres after seeing Deepika’s midriff. Just look at the unedited version, there’s just so much skin.
Now, look at the new version which is so much better. No skin, nothing to distract people. So what the song had to be edited so much that it is 2 minutes shorter now? It’s very ‘sanskari’ and that’s the main thing.
I honestly can’t believe we live in a country where someone’s midriff is a very important issue, I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry.

Well, it seems like I’m not alone in this confusion. Here’s what people on Twitter are saying.
Welcome!
So Deepika’s midriff has been digitally covered in the new version of #ghoomar!!!
Welcome to Saudi Arabia !! #Padmavat #Padmavati #KarniSena #Fringe

How to make a big issue out of anything.
Watched Ghoomar and honestly can’t understand what’s the fuss about till they had to edit Deepika’s midriff. Of all things to find fault, that slight skin showing got them worked out till the need to edit it? pic.twitter.com/vPmr4v2Mub

Thankfully, it was changed before the release.
happy to announce that Hindu culture has been saved. the video of ‘Ghoomar’ on YouTube has been replaced by one that uses CGI to ‘cover up’ three inches of bare midriff. bee em kay jay. https://t.co/zehHZ1AiBf

Just release the movie, please.
Pretty confident Padmavat will not release on Jan 25. Various chief ministers imposing bans, historical and geographical references muted, vfx to cover Deepika’s midriff, those Karni morons continuing to holler… Shameful, but the idiots are winning.

Yes, it’s a personal attack.
This is the right thing to do. Deepika Padukone’s midriff always offends me when I look down at my ownhttps://t.co/i3Uf3uo3BU

When will this end?

Well, that’s one way to look at it.
Thank god they covered up Deepika’s midriff. It was giving me a major inferiority complex.
