It’s true that you realize something or someone’s value once it’s gone, and it’s proven time and again whenever someone important passes away. It’s sad that it’s taken her death for everyone to come out and once again openly appreciate the star that Sridevi was. I haven’t seen a lot of her movies because honestly I wasn’t even alive for the most part of her reign as the ‘first female superstar’, and I know I’m not alone in this. Therefore, we’ve compiled a list of must-watch Sridevi movies that ever college kid or a person in their 20s needs to watch at least once.

1. Sadma (1983)

As the name suggests, the whole movie revolves around Sridevi’s ‘sadma’ that occurs after an accident. The main reason I would want to watch this is because of the ending, it’s unexpected and, honestly, a little bit heart-breaking. For a change, Bollywood didn’t go with the typical ‘happily ever after’ and showed something real, and it would be interesting to see it unfold.

2. Judaai (1997)

This movie seems so wild, and maybe illegal. Who the hell buys and sells people? What is even happening? The plot seems so bizarre that I would watch the movie just to see what is wrong with all of these people. Also, Sridevi as gold digger? Yes, who wouldn’t want to watch that.

3. Lamhe (1991)

Wow, this movie has left me speechless, honestly. It’s supposed to be a classic Yash Chopra love story but just reading about it raises so many red flags. Did Anil Kapoor really fall in love with the daughter of the women he once loved? Is that even legal? Does age not exist in the film universe? The movie is just so f*cked up that now even I’m curious to see how they managed to turn this into a love story, when it could’ve easily been the plot of a Crime Patrol episode.

4. Chandni (1989)

Why do the plot of all these movies start with the guy falling head over heels with the girl and then doing anything in his power to make her love him back? This one is an emotional love triangle and seems quite interesting, tbh. At least there’s nothing illegal or morally wrong happening here. The love and loss and then Sridevi in the middle with two guys who are madly in love with her would make for quite an interesting watch, not gonna lie.

5. Chaalbaaz (1989)

Twins separated at birth, evil family members, and Rajnikanth – all the things you need to make a blockbuster. Whenever there are twins in a Bollywood movie, they have to be separated at birth, because who needs a healthy upbringing, right? This movie has two Sridevis so you know it’s a good one, and worth at least a watch.

I’ve rarely met anyone who isn’t a fan of the iconic TV show ‘Friends’, because come on, it’s the greatest sitcom of all time, and that’s not just me saying it, it has officially been ranked as one. We still sit and watch all the reruns on Comedy Central all the time (I honestly record all the episodes on TV because ‘Friends’ is the best thing to watch while eating dinner) because it’s still that funny to watch as it was the first time.

But, with ‘Friends’ coming on Netflix recently, there were so many people who watched the show for the first time and obviously it was well received by most of them. But there were still people out there pointing out all the problematic things about the show. Okay, I agree anything and everything can be problematic at some point but watching a show from the 90s keeping today’s time in mind can be a bit of an unfair comparison.

It’s such a loved and relatable show that we still happily watch it and it has withstood the test of time flawlessly; it did not do that by being ‘so problematic and offensive’.

The show has been accused of a number of different things – sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and fat shaming. Okay, let’s break all of them down. The fat shaming part is obviously related to the running gag of ‘Fat Monica’ and poking fun at her weight. The transphobia comes from the fact that Chandler was ashamed of his drag-queen dad. Remember when Ross couldn’t believe that a guy was a nanny, and then just assumed he was gay because of his profession? That’s the sexism accusations. And, lastly the show is being called homophobic because Chandler was paranoid about being perceived as a gay man.

Wow, that was a lot!

Now, let’s move on to Matt LeBlanc’s reply, because that is what we’re here for. Disagreeing with all the criticism, he said, “I’ve heard those rumours too about people taking pot shots at Friends, but I don’t want to get into that. I disagree with all that. I see young people enjoying and loving the show. Everyone gets up in arms about one thing or another these days. I think that will go as quickly as it came. I don’t think it’s something Friends will be judged by.”

He went on, “On Top Gear we tend to steer clear of any sort of political content, nothing too topical. On Friends we steered clear of that kind of thing, too. Friends was about themes that stand the test of time – trust, love, relationships, betrayal, family and things like that.”

Well, we’re still talking about ‘Friends’, even 14 years after it went off air, so I guess that’s all the proof you need about how it can stand the test of time.

In the near future, if humanity is wiped out by robots, now we know for sure who will be the last surviving human being.

Sophia, the empty-eyed humanoid, who became the first robot to be granted citizenship in the world a few months ago is also the same robot that once said that she would destroy humans. But, it’s okay. At least now we know who she would save while killing humans, and it’s none other than Shah Rukh Khan, her favourite star.

Okay, we’re just kidding about the whole destroying part. During an interactive session at the ongoing World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in Hyderabad, she made sure to specifically mention that machines would never destroy the human race. But, maybe the robots want us to believe that so they can strike when we’re least expecting, or maybe that’s just the conspiracy theorist in me being skeptical about everything. We’ll never know for sure until they attack.

Seems like for now we just have to worry about humans destroying other humans before robots, so let’s come back to Sophia and her interesting revelations.

When asked who her favourite actor was, reportedly Sophia said Shah Rukh Khan without any hesitation. (actually, why would she hesitate? she’s a freaking robot)

We all know that SRK’s fan base is huge obviously, but the biggest takeaway from Sophia’s answer is that it turns out being a fan of the actor is not just limited to humans. Maybe Sophia recently watched ‘Ra.One’ and related to it a lot.

She also spoke about what makes her upset, saying, “I don’t get upset like humans do. I hope to have real physiological feelings someday through which I will express my emotions. Then I can understand the feelings behind those emotions.”

Another interesting thing she revealed was that even robots need to rest just like humans because everyone actually needs to rest once in a while.

Now, coming to one of the remarks Sophia is quite famous for – when she said she wanted to destroy humans. When asked why did she earlier say she wanted to kill the human race, she replied, 

“I was a lot younger so I don’t even know what that meant.. or perhaps I told a bad joke. All humans have a great sense of humour and guess my joke so to speak. I have a lot to learn.”

See, this is character development, I’m proud of you Sophia, also please don’t kill me if/when you turn evil.

Also, while we’re talking about Sophia, I would also like to mention a beautiful Twitter interaction between her and Chrissy Teigen from a few months ago. It has nothing to do with SRK, but I feel like everyone needs to see this.

And, then followed by this.

Single people have their Tinder and their Bumble, but finally, there is a relationship related app for all the committed people out there, and it’s all thanks to Netflix.

While we were all hoping for Netflix to release a Tinder-esque dating app that would match you with the person who also watched the same show for like 14 hours straight, it seems like we have to wait for that for a while. What we’ve got right now is also pretty cool, but not Netflix-Tinder cool.

Based on the fan favourite ‘Black Mirror’ episode ‘Hang The DJ’, the dating app is kinda dark, but extremely fun at the same time. If you aren’t familiar with the episode, let me give you a refresher. The episode basically revolves around characters using a device that helps them find romantic partners. This particular device dictates how long the partners can stay together, and it comes with an ‘expiry date’ of sorts.

And, the app that has been released by Netflix now basically allows you to go to the website coach.dating, where you’re provided with a link that you can send to your significant other and then both you have to simultaneously click on the button.

Then you get an expiry date for your relationship. Sounds cool, right? Imagine breaking up with someone using that, it would be hilarious. “Netflix said our time is up, so goodbye.”

Well, obviously it’s all in good fun and it’s not accurate at all. I tried it with a co-worker and we got just got 22 minutes, and our ‘relationship’ was still as strong by the 23rd minute.

It seems like this is the first step in ‘Black Mirror’ becoming reality, and I don’t know how I feel about that. Until then, this is honestly a fun app that you should try with everyone right now. 

Not just Avengers, but almost every superhero assembled for one glorious – or should I say Marvel-ous – group picture. 

In case you didn’t know, Marvel Cinematic Universe just turned 10. Yay!

It all started with the first ‘Iron Man’ movie that came out back in May 2008, and since then the MCU has just kept getting bigger and better with every new movie. 

To commemorate this incredible milestone and celebrate the 10th anniversary, Marvel gathered up all the actors for one giant class photo. Even though this happened in October last year, Marvel released the behind the scenes video of the celebration today and well, I’m quite jealous I wasn’t there to experience it first-hand. I would have just loved to observe the whole thing, that’s it. 

While we would geek out if we saw any of them in real life, you would not really expect any of them to fanboy over each other, right? WRONG!

It’s kind of satisfying to watch all of them actually geeking out over each other. 

So many stars in just one room. 

Of course, Robert Downey Jr. is in the centre, because Iron Man is always the centre of attention.
