Bollywood isn’t confined to the same age old clichéd storyline anymore, where every other movie focuses on woman running away with another man, hero going against his family to marry the love of his life or evil in-laws trying to create problems in the lead couple’s life. The movies today are focusing more on the socially relevant and sensitive issues that were left untouched until now. The directors and actors are trying to bring about a positive change through their movies and we saw a glimpse of this last year when Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ was released.

2017 was probably a great year for Akshay Kumar and by the looks of it, 2018 is going to be a great one as well. Not because of his killer line up of movies that are expected to release, it’s because of a certain piece of information that will not only make his chest swell up with pride, but leave us overjoyed too.

*Drum rolls*, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Padman’ has become the first Indian movie to be screened at The Oxford Union, which is considered to be the world’s most prestigious debating society. Twinkle Khanna has been invited to speak at The Oxford Union, where she will showcase the movie ‘Padman’.

Akshay Kumar is one of the very few actors, who not only dared to pick a social cause for his movie but also turned it into one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. And now Bollywood’s Khiladi is all set to impress us with his upcoming movie ‘Padman’, which is inspired by the life of Coimbatore-based social entrepreneur, Arunachalam Muruganantham. Arunachalam fought all odds and overcame several struggles to find a cheaper way to manufacture affordable sanitary napkins for women in his village.

Arunachalam tried to create awareness about the unhygienic practices around menstruation, which is till date considered as a taboo in several parts of the country. And now the whole world will come to know of his efforts through R. Balki’s movie that is expected to release on January 25.

The Oxford Union was founded in 1823 and stalwarts like Dalai Lama, Salman Rushdie, Malala Yousafzai, Morgan Freeman and Shashi Tharoor, have earlier been a part of this society. And this news was shared on their official Twitter page as well.

The films today aren’t restricted to the Indian audience alone and the immense success that movies like ‘Dangal’, ‘Newton’ and ‘Baahubali’ franchise have enjoyed globally, only cements the same. And now that  ‘Padman’ has paved its way to the Oxford Union, all we can say is there is no looking back for Bollywood now.
