Movies are an impression of our lives. Things, at times, might seem extraordinary, but there is always something ordinary that makes us love that one particular film in an instant. They make us laugh, they make us cry. And especially when we see an underdog making it big, that just inspires us even more. Today’s world is full of complexity that and we sometimes need a kick to uplift our spirits.  So, here’s the list of films that just don’t just entertain but will inspire, motivate and will leave a strong imprint on you even after the credits roll. 

The Fundamentals of Caring

This Netflix original buddy comedy is worth a watch. It’s a beautiful story of a young shut-in and his caregiver taking a road trip in search of landmarks, but find hope and friendship in the process. This story will assure you that even in the darkest of times, you will have something to laugh about. But, you might not want to pull a Trevor on your folks.

I Don’t Feel at Home in this World Anymore

This film might not be your first pick but it indeed should be on your watch list. The film is about a timid nursing assistant who finds a new lease on life when she and her neighbour work together and tack down the degenerates who broke into her house. This beautiful film simply makes you believe in humanity, despite all the bad in the world.

Tangerine

Sin Dee and Alexandra’s story is nothing less than an inspiration. Fresh out of a stint in jail, transgender prostitute Sin-Dee and her friend Alexandra hit the streets of LA to find her giddy pimp and take revenge. But nothing is as simple as it seems, every day brings a new challenge but its all about how you perceive life. Take note from these two on how to live life, despite all the problems in the world. 

A Single Man

This stream-of-consciousness drama centres on a day in the life of a gay college professor who’s reeling from his longtime lover’s recent death. Many LGBTQ films focus on convincing viewers of a love between two men, in ‘A Single Man’, it’s understood as a given and that’s the sublime beauty of the script. 

The Bucket List

If you thought elderly gentlemen didn’t match up with the millennial concept of YOLO, you might want to rethink that after watching this film. ‘The Bucket List’ is a story of two terminally ill men suffering from cancer who plan to live life to the fullest and experience the finer things in life before they hit the dirt road. 

Pursuit of Happyness

Christopher Gardener’s life is the best example of how to make the best of a bad situation. Chris starts up by taking an unpaid internship in a brokerage when he loses all his earnings. His wife leaves him and he is just left with a song. The simple moral of the film is if you want to make it big, you stick by it and work hard to achieve it. 

Lion

Lion is a movie that hits your soul and moves you. From the acting to the script, there is nothing in the film that disappoints you. The story revolves around an Indian man who gets separated from his mother at age 5 and later gets adopted by an Australian couple. But despite everything, the boy is still determined to find his birth family. When Google Earth becomes available, he commits himself to finding his lost family, even though he remembers so little of them. This is a film that you just can’t miss!

Beginners

Rather than sticking with one side of the conversation, ‘Beginners’ shows you Hal’s delight at being free and exploring life as a gay man. And, there is Oliver, Hal’s son, who through his father’s experience learns the most important lesson – enjoy life, one day at a time.
