Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex fell by 33.22 points, or 0.17 per cent, to 19,284.03 in early trade.

New Delhi: Sanjay Dutt has opened up to a lot of experimentation with his looks. After sporting a bald look in ‘Agneepath’, and wearing a turban in ‘Son Of Sardaar’, the actor will be seen in short hair and a stylish beard for his role as Sher Khan in ‘Zanjeer’.

He will also be seen wearing kolh-rimmed eyes in the movie, which is a remake of the 1973 film of the same name.

Sanjay plays the role that veteran actor Pran had played in the original.

Director Apoorva Lakhia, who has taken the reigns of the remake in his hands, sat down himself to design Sanjay’s look.

He roped in designer Navin Shetty for the costume, and popular hair stylist Aalim’s team for the actor’s hair, said a source.

The year has been good for the actor with ‘Agneepath’, which won him rave reviews for his spine-chilling portrayal of Kancha Cheena, and ‘Son Of Sardaar’ painted a completely different picture of Sanjay in his humourous avatar.

The ‘Zanjeer’ remake also stars southern star Ram Charan Teja and Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra.

Produced by Reliance Entertainment, Amit Mehra and Flying Turtle Films, ‘Zanjeer’ will release on April 12, 2013.

Mumbai: Priyanka Chopra, who is known for her non-conventional films like ‘7 Khoon Maaf’ and ‘Barfi’, says that her upcoming film on boxing champion Mary Kom will be the different film next year.

“I do at least one film which is challenging for me every year. Mary Kom is that film for next year. If you meet her in person, you will see she is so sweet….can’t imagine her to be a boxer,” Priyanka Chopra said at a press conference.

Talking about her preparation for the film, the actress said that the training is on and she hopes she can play the role well.

“There is a lot of training going on for it. I hope I can pull it off,” she said.

With her debut single, “In My City” being liked by her fans, Priyanka does admit that her strong Bollywood career has supported this success.

“I have done films for so long and my fans have always supported me. It is easy for me to do conventional films, but then I want to try something different,” she said.

The actress will be seen in four films next year – a remake of ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Gunday’, the film on Mary Kom, and ‘Krrish 3’. Will she be singing in any of them?

“I have not planned anything. I am new to all this,” she said.

Actor Salman Khan, who will be seen next in ‘Dabangg 2’, bats for an actor’s involvement in the creative process of a film.

I approve my films' final cut: Salman Khan (© Varinder Chawla)

Mumbai: Salman Khan has been delivering back-to-back hits in the Hindi film industry. He says after the failure of his 2010 film ‘Veer’, he makes sure the final cut of any of his films has his approval.

He feels an actor’s involvement in creative processes helps sometimes.

“When I put my foot down sometimes, I hope I am not taking advantage of my stardom and that’s a big guilt. Eventually, what the audience first watches is only me in the poster, so I will be held responsible for everything,” Salman said in an interaction.

“So we also have to see that in just being polite, the film doesn’t go for a toss. Aamir (Khan) does it very correctly. Now I have started making it clear right in the beginning. I make sure that the final cut goes with my approval. After ‘Veer’, I have started doing this,” he said.

Salman, who wrote the story for ‘Veer’, admits he wasn’t satisfied with the final product that the film turned out to be.

“I was not happy with ‘Veer’ when they showed me the film. I cut down the film to one hour and 55 minutes, and eventually they released the film as a two hour and 30 minute-film, which is not a done thing. They thought they will get away with that, but they didn’t and I was very upset with the fact because I wrote its script and I knew if it has to be that long, then I need those 18 days of shoot because I needed the high points.”

“The scale of the film was very big. So one hour and 55 minutes was a perfect length for it. Till the time it is interesting, it is fine, but the film has to hold (the audience),” he added.

MUMBAI: The BSE benchmark Sensex declined by over 33 points in early trade on Monday as investors preferred to book profits ahead of the RBI’s mid-quarter monetary policy review on Tuesday.

Besides, a mixed trend on Asian bourses also dampened the trading sentiments here.

The 30-share barometer, which gained 87.99 points in the previous session, fell by 33.22 points, or 0.17 per cent, to 19,284.03. Stocks of consumer durables, capital goods and FMCG sectors fell due to profit-booking.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty shed 19.40 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 5,860.20.

Brokers said besides profit-booking by speculators after gains on Friday, a cautious approach ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s mid-quarter monetary policy review on Tuesday and a mixed trend on the Asian boures influenced the trading sentiments.

In the Asian region, Japan’s Nikkei Index gained 1.62 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index down 0.25 per cent in early trade. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.27 per cent down on Friday on uncertainty over the fiscal cliff.

Actress Jacqueline Fernandez, who will be seen next in ‘Race 2’, talks about creating a place for herself in Bollywood.

Bollywood is a very competitive industry: Jacqueline (© Varinder Chawla)

Mumbai: Many would believe that “Betrayal Is Survival”, the tag line of Jacqueline Fernandez’s ‘Race 2’, truly reflects the cut-throat competition and survival mantra in the Hindi film industry, but the Sri Lankan-born actress says hard work and honesty can do wonders.

“It is a very competitive industry. They say that if you want to survive here, you have to be cut-throat. But I don’t see a need for that. Sometimes I feel that hard work works. If you want to sleep well at night it is better if you just be an honest person,” Jacqueline told us in an interview.

Personally, she feels it is better to forgive and forget than hold a grudge against anyone.

“I think betrayal is a part and parcel of life and I think we all have experienced it. But I am someone who doesn’t believe in holding grudges. I am someone who forgives and forgets. I think it is important,” she said.

Born to a Sri Lankan father and Malaysian mother, Jacqueline was raised in Bahrain, and at the age of 14 was hosting a fitness show. She moved to Australia for her college studies, and then returned to Sri Lanka, where she took up a reporting job.

The year 2006 turned to be a game-changer for her as she entered the Miss Sri Lanka beauty pageant, and won the crown. That set the stage for the Miss Universe contest at Los Angeles for her. She didn’t make it to the finals, but her visibility drew in advise that she must try her luck in Bollywood.

It worked.

She made her debut in the Hindi film industry with 2009 film ‘Aladin’ opposite Riteish Deshmukh. Though it didn’t click at the box-office, the film landed her roles in ‘Housefull 2’, ‘Murder 2’ and now ‘Race 2’.

Creating a place for herself was not easy, says Jacqueline.

“It is a little bit difficult when you have come from outside. I feel that the industry embraces people who are from the industry faster and with wider arms. But once you have proved yourself, it is easier for them to accept you,” she said.

“I remember when ‘Aladin’ didn’t do well, I felt a little bit shunned, because it is so difficult to get a second chance specially if you are not from the group. You put in twice the effort and start again,” she added.

Even though the 27-year-old actress has managed to create an identity, she is still wary of making friends in the industry.

“I think at the end of the day, these are all people you have to work with. Sometimes it is difficult because you don’t want to cross that line between professionalism and friendship. Getting along with co-stars is important, but when it comes to having real friends I don’t go looking for them in the film industry,” she said.

With two successful films ‘Murder 2’ and ‘Housefull 2’ in her kitty, Jacqueline views the achievement as an add on responsibility.

“It (success) just gives you more responsibility. I guess it makes you work harder. It doesn’t change you as a person; it changes the surrounding and scenario and gives a lot more responsibility,” she said.

Directed by Abbas-Mustan, ‘Race 2’ also stars Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone and Ameesha Patel. It releases on January 25, 2013.

Mumbai, Dec 17: Singur was a “great disappointment” but Tata group may still go to West Bengal, hints outgoing Chairman of the group Ratan Tata. “Need not be Tata Motors. We have until the court decides this, the plant is still there. Whether it is Tata Motors or something else,” he said in an interview. He was asked about his recent statement that some day Tatas will go back to West Bengal considering the fact that Tata Motors had to shift to Gujarat after a bitter experience in Singur.

Tata, who will step down as Chairman of Tata group on Dec 28, said he had a great affinity with eastern Indian because it has not partaken in the growth and prosperity of the rest of the country. “If there is something that I could do to be involved with in eastern India, I would welcome that. You see, I lived in Jamshedpur for six years, very close to Kolkata and I used to be in Kolkata of and on.

“Bengali people are very nice people. So I have an affinity, don’t speak the language, that part of the country and to see something happen there would be quite a thrill for me,” he said. Building the cancer hospital in Kolkata, in itself, Tata said has been a thrill for him because lives can be saved in that part of the country. “It is something that I feel very proud that I have been able to do,” he said.

Speaking about Singur, where Tata Motors set up a factory to manufacture the world’s cheapest car but had to quit in the wake of protests over land acquisition a few years ago, Tata said, “It was a great disappointment, because we went to West Bengal, in a leap of faith thinking that part of the country was being ignored industrially.”

“I had a great regard for Buddhadeb Bhattacharya (the then Chief Minister). I thought he was really trying to industrialise West Bengal and I thought the plant we had could have created eventually 7000-8000 jobs.” He said he was enamoured by what they would do. It was not just another factory, it was not not just another plant.

“It was a new product that had never been done in India and we are taking to a place that has been ignored industrially for a long period of time. So I felt very good.” Tata said when the protests took place he was a little confused and confounded initially, whether it was a real problem or not. It just escalated and escalated and he figured this was not the place where they could be.

“So it was a great disappointment for me on all those grounds and I think Buddhadeb would have liked me to have stayed there and offered the plant protection. But you can’t run a plant on police protection. There has to be a police protection. There has to be a removal of the hostilities one way or another. So it was a disappointment for me,” he said.
