Since the past few weeks, the whole world has been talking incessantly about the Marvel Universe and how half the superheroes turned to dust at the snap of Thanos’ fingers and the Infinity Stones settled on them.

But, it’s time to move on and focus on a universe, which is scarier than any other world out there. We’re talking about ‘The Conjuring’ universe, which is back to scare the wits out of you with its fifth installment– ‘The Nun’.

While you were busy tagging your friends in the videos of ‘Chai pi lo’ Aunty, ‘The Conjuring 2’ directors released this eerie and unsettling trailer of ‘The Nun’, a spin-off that revolves around a nun who finds herself trapped in the midst of paranormal events as she investigates the death of a fellow nun. Given it has Taissa Farmiga in the movie, can we call it a scary crossover between ‘The Conjuring 2’ and ‘American Horror Story’?

The demonic nun from the creepy portrait, who also happens to be main antagonist in ‘The Conjuring 2’ is back. The same ghost who paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were after, has finally got her own standalone movie, but sadly the trailer did not impress me much.

The trailer takes us back in time to a Romanian convent; where a nun was found dead in a shady nook. ‘A priest with a haunted past’ and ‘a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows’ are sent to investigate the murder by the Vatican. Together they solve the murder mystery, travel through dingy dark paths and finally come face-to-face with the demonic nun.

Honestly, anyone who spots a ghost lurking around them will freak out and scream for help. But our protagonist here is so brave, that the first thing she says when she sees the ghost is “Hello!” How else will you break the ice if you don’t greet someone, right? But she realizes pretty soon that a greeting was not what that ghost nun was expecting from her.

For me, the element of fear was completely missing from this 1-minute 32-second long video, that had hyped up the horror genre for me, despite there being two demonic nuns this time, which at least the trailer hints at!

Directed by Corin Hardy and helmed by Gary Dauberman of ‘It’ fame, the movie will release on September 7 and stars Demian Bichir as Father Burke, Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu, and Bonnie Aarons.
