What can make a Dwayne Johnson movie even better? Adding a giant ape, giant werewolf, and a giant crocodile. And, there you have a ‘Rampage’.

Based on the classic arcade game where you have to bash cities to rubble while playing as a giant gorilla, lizard or wolf, comes an exciting live-action movie starring none other than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Warner Bros has just released the first trailer for ‘Rampage’, the arcade game film adaptation we did not realise we needed till now.

A few months ago, Johnson, who will be playing the head of an anti-poaching unit that operates in Rwanda, provided a few more details about his relationship with George the gorilla with an Instagram caption.

“I head up an anti-poaching unit out of Rwanda,” he wrote. “My best friend is a rare albino gorilla named George. Very bad people infect George, an alligator and a wolf with a serum. All three animals grow at an unprecedented rate. Their size, speed, agility and violent aggression is off the charts. They go on a deadly rampage and want to destroy the world.”

And, that pretty much sums up the premise of the movie, but going by the trailer, it’s much more than that. The trailer is enough to grab everyone’s attention, and honestly it looks pretty cool.

The original game gave players control of three giant beasts: a gorilla named George, a lizard-like creature named Lizzie and a wolf-like creature named Ralph, and the ultimate goal was to raze a series of buildings in each level while fighting off attacks from civilians, police and military.

For this movie, Johnson reteams with his ‘San Andreas’ and ‘Journey 2’ director Brad Peyton, and it also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello and Naomie Harris.

Historically, movie adaptations of games have failed to live up to the hype, and have been straight up awful for the most part. But, ‘Rampage’ is just adapting a rough concept, which is basically what would happen if some giant beasts go rouge and destroy a city.

Well, it would be interesting to see if ‘Rampage’ manages to escape this curse when it releases on April 20th next year.
