Yes. She has done it again.

It was already a given that Kangana Ranaut was going to deliver a power-packed performance, but watching her acting her heart out as the uber cute, ultra dorky “Simran” is like watching butter sliding down hot toast- mesmerising!

As the title suggests, “Simran” is all about the amazingly talented Kangana Ranaut, who successfully keeps every eyeball in the hall glued to her throughout the film.

The only flaw in the movie lies with its lack of consistency.

The first half keeps you totally engaged, as you chuckle, giggle and snort at Ranaut’s antics. However, things go haywire in the second half.

Simran Review: Kangana Will Blow You Away…“Simran” Not So Much

Plot: Praful Patel (Kangana Ranaut) is a divorcee living in Georgia, United States with her parents and works in the housekeeping department of a hotel. However, there is another side to her seemingly innocuous character- thieving and gambling.

Before you know, one mishap leads to another and Praful’s life snowballs into a giant mess (expected at this point in the film)

Those among us who often find life taking control over our actions, whilst we sit back and watch it all go up in flames, will totally relate with “Simran”.

Simran leads a fairly drab life, as her father does not seem to think much of her, while her mother wants to see her daughter get settled in life.

Simran, however, has grand plans of her own. She wants to have her own apartment and escape her parent’s house.

As you keep watching one thing becomes obvious, Kangana has done her homework. She slips into the skin of her Gujarati role with apparent ease, reminding you of her “Tanu Weds Manu” days where she is a complete ‘Kanpuria’ right down to her abusive tongue.

Everything is fine until she switches gears into her gambling and theft mode. Praful becomes Simran, the name she adopts as a robber and that’s the point where the whole story starts losing its grip.

The second half struggles with the mood, tone, and story, distracting you from what the plot really is. Still, one manages to foresee the grave that Praful has dug for herself with her choices.

Eventually, the flat and predictable story line, inexplicable songs and finally the exhausting plot rains all over Ranaut’s impressive parade.

You may not find yourself rooting for Praful, but you will totally connect with her on different levels! Watch this film only for Kangana, as she flawlessly nails it. Again.

Simran_PosterShe makes robbing banks look like child’s play and is reckless at a casino, but Kangana Ranaut manages to inject a degree of adorability in Praful Patel, the flawed protagonist in her latest film, Simran. But our adoration would have exponentially increased if there was more consistency in Patel’s checkered personality.

Simran is the tale of a 30-year-old Gujarati woman, a divorcee who lives with her conservative parents in the state of Georgia, going rogue.

Patel, who leads a pretty uneventful life as housekeeper in a fancy hotel, turns into an amateur criminal. The transformation is swift and uneven and therefore, unbelievable. One day she’s looking at buying herself an apartment and is hoping that her home loan would come through and the next she’s swatting off bestial loan sharks who snort cocaine and pummel debtors to the ground.

But Ranaut tries to inject a Bridget Jones appeal (Hollywood romcom’s always-relatable Londoner) into her misadventures. The problem is that dating a wrong guy or not able to shed off those extra kilos aren’t as grave a problem as looting a bank to settle debts gathered after a stupid night of gambling.

SRKHema Malini’s love for dance is well-known. In her bid to promote Indian dance forms, the actor has invited the National Ballet of Georgia, Sukhishvili, to perform in Mumbai at Synergy – an Indo-Georgian dance fusion. The event will be held at the Jio Garden arena in BKC today. And the who’s who of Bollywood including Shah Rukh Khan, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Rani Mukerji and Tamannaah Bhatia will be lending their support to the actor.

Khan and Malini go back a long way — the actor was the lead in Malini’s directorial debut, Dil Aashna Hai (1992). One to cherish his relationships, the superstar assured Malini that he will be by her side on her big day. A source close to the danseuse says, “Shah Rukh had said yes to her film instantly, back then. And things haven’t changed in the last 25 years — one call from her and he said he would be there for her event, no matter how busy he is.”

Dixit and Mukerji, who have often wowed the audience with their dancing abilities on screen, have expressed their excitement to be part of the show. The source adds, “Sridevi is currently recovering from a viral attack, but she has promised Hemaji that she will make an appearance if she feels better.”

Malini adds, “I have invited all my colleagues from the film industry and I will be the happiest if they come.”
