Chennai: Rado is the new Official Timekeeper of the Aircel Chennai Open 2013 which will be held from 31st December 2012 to 6th January 2013 at the SDAT Stadium in Chennai. This is the 18th edition of the tournament and promises to be the best yet with a field consisting of top international tennis stars.

Rado, which has been associated with the ATP World Tour and other international events in tennis, has come on board as Official Time Keeper of Aircel Chennai Open 2013 for the first time. A prominent sponsor and leading official timekeeper in international tennis for more than two decades, Rado is synonymous with precision timing in its products and on the courts.

As the Official Timekeeper, Rado will provide timing and scorekeeping services through the Aircel Chennai Open 2013, guaranteeing the precision and reliability of results. The displays on the Rado corner clocks will ensure that spectators across the world can follow each match and service speeds through the tournament.

Aircel Chennai Open 2013 will see in action an impressive line-up of Indian and International players including Tomas Berdych, Janko Tipsarevic, Marin Cilic and Stanislas Wawrinka, who are among the top 20 players in the world.

Chennai:  Apart from promising enthusiasts the hottest tennis action and a fantastic line up of the best players in the world, the 18th edition of the Aircel Chennai Open is all set to charm fans as it takes advantage of the latest mobile technology and goes hi-tech in 2013. The organisers of India and South Asia’s only ATP World Tour today announced the launch of an exclusive new mobile application for fans called “Aircel Chennai Open”. Launched in partnership with leading mobile consulting and development firm Hakuna Matata Solutions Pvt. Ltd, the app will give users an opportunity to enjoy all the action at the touch of a button.
 
Live matches, scores, draws, players list, and the latest tournament news will now be available on the go for the first time in the event’s history. The android based application can be downloaded now from the Android app store and the iOS application for the iPhone will be available on iTunes shortly.
 
While the rules of tennis have not changed much over the years, technological enhancements geared towards spectators and players have introduced a completely new level of excitement and competitiveness in the game. The mobile application is one such advancement when it comes to the 18th edition of the Aircel Chennai Open 2013.

Devvarman, Bhambri get wildcards for Chennai OpenChennai: Indian tennis players Somdev Devvarman and Yuki Bhambri have been granted wildcard entries into the main draw of the Chennai Open.

The tournament will be held at the SDAT Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium from Dec 31 to Jan 6.

Somdev and Yuki join an impressive field which includes four players from the top 20 in the world. Apart from the Czech Republic`s Tomas Berdych (No.6), the grid includes Janko Tipsarevic (No.9), twice-winner Marin Cilic (No.15) and Stanislas Wawrinka (No.17).

Somdev notched his best run on the ATP World Tour here in 2009 when he reached the finals as a wildcard entry. His run ended when he lost to third seed Croatian Cilic 4-6, 6-7(3).

In the 17th edition of the Chennai Open, Yuki shocked Word No.101 Karol Beck and defeated him in 79 minutes.

“Somdev was unlucky with injury this past year and we`re looking forward to his comeback to start at the Aircel Chennai Open. Additionally, currently India`s top ranked singles player, Yuki is poised for another strong year. We respect their immense talent and are confident that the young players will make good use of the opportunity. It gives us immense pleasure to give Somdev and Yuki wildcards for the singles main draw,” said Karti Chidambaram, vice-president, Chennai Open Organizing Committee president.

The $430,000 tournament is India`s only and South Asia`s premier ATP World Tour Open 250 event which was started in 1996. The tournament is conducted under the aegis of the All India Tennis Association (AITA).

Somdev and Yuki join an impressive field, which includes four players from the Top 20 in the world. Apart from the Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych (No. 6), the grid includes Janko Tipsarevic (No. 9), twice winner Marin Cilic (No. 15) and Stanislas Wawrinka (No. 17).

Somdev notched his best run on the ATP World Tour in the Aircel Chennai Open 2009 when he reached the finals as a wild card entry. His dream run ended when he lost to third seed Marin Cilic of Croatia 4-6 6-7 (3). In 2010, Somdev won Gold in the men’s singles event of the XIXth Commonwealth Games at the R.K. Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi and followed it up with a men’s singles and doubles Gold in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

In 2012, the 27-year-old participated in Chennai and was hopeful of putting up a good show but was forced to exit the tournament due to an injury. In 2011, he had a great run at the Australian Open but a shoulder injury kept him on the back foot. This wild card entry into the tournament is a significant recognition of his talent and ability to take on the world’s best.

Twenty-year-old Bhambri  defeated Amir Weintraub in straight sets to win the first ever ATP Challenger singles title of his career in Fergana, Uzbekistan on 20 May 2012. In the 17th edition of Aircel Chennai Open, Yuki shocked Word No. 101 Karol Beck and defeated him in 79 minutes . In 2009, Yuki became the first Indian to win the junior Australian Open.

Somdev had a World Ranking of 62 in July 2011 and Bhambri is currently the highest ranked Indian player.
