Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited period film ‘Padmavati’ has run into troubled waters and the filmmaker, along with the crew, just bore the brunt of it. As per reports, an angry mob slapped Sanjay Leela Bhansali and tore off his clothes at Jaipur’s Amer fort. The protestors are from Karni Sena allegedly and are protesting against the portrayal of Rani Padmavati in the film.
They not only assaulted Bhansali, but also vandalised the set of the film in Jaipur. The mob, as per reports, gheraoed the set, causing the whole crew to get stuck. Apparently, Karni Sena is protesting against the depiction of Rani Padmavati – they have alleged that facts have been distorted in the film.
As per the protesting mob, Bhansali’s Padmavati, played by Deepika Padukone, has a few love-making scenes with Khilji sultan Allauddin Khilji (played by Ranveer Singh). The Karni Sena insists that in reality, Queen Padmavati chose death as against submission to Allauddin Khilji when he attacked her fort.
“We had warned the filmmaker against presenting wrong facts. When we came to know about the shooting, we gathered there and protested,” said district president of Karni sena Narayan Singh.
Earlier too, Karni Sena had tried to stall the release of ‘Jodha Akbar’, protesting the wrongful depiction of Akbar’s queen.
