Before we get started, here’s a suggestion. Plug in your headphones and listen to this playlist. If you don’t know how to listen to songs on YouTube while doing something else on your phone then read this. Just let the music keep playing while you read (Yes, even the next two songs). Also, if you scroll right to the end, we’ll talk about the post-credit scenes in this movie. Isn’t that something everyone wants to know about?

If Marvel chose to let people watch this movie first and then pay for it on the basis of how they felt, cinemas would get much more than INR 300-400 from each person. Yes!

The first question you may have is, why 3 + 1 + 5? It’s because these reasons are very different from each other. Confused? You won’t be by the end.

Marvel has a certain air about them. Everything they touch turns into gold. The biggest challenge in front of them right now is getting the Fantastic Four back and turning it into a popular movie franchise. But until Fox chooses to let them have it back, Marvel is dealing with another problem. How do they keep one-upping themselves? With ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ this was always going to be extra tough since ‘Justice League’ is scheduled for release just 2 weeks from now. That gives Marvel just a week to grab as much attention as it can before everyone starts talking about the most popular superheroes in the world. (We’re talking about Batman and Superman, in case you didn’t figure that out already.)

We have a theory. Hear us out. ‘Iron Man’ was the best Iron Man movie and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ was the best Captain America movie. It’s obvious that ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ was going to be the best Thor movie. 1-2-3, that’s how it goes, right?

Now, we’ve split this article into two parts, the first is completely spoiler free and will only tell you why you should be more than willing to cancel any plans you have this weekend just so you can watch this movie. The second part will contain mild spoilers which aren’t going to ruin the story for you but will give you more reasons to watch it. None of the 9 reasons are spoilers, though. So, enjoy! Just keep an eye out for the huge SPOILER poster. If you read anything beyond that, don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Let’s get right into it. Here are the first 3 reasons why you need to go watch Thor: Ragnarok right now:

Thor: Ragnarok – Thor

Isn’t it obvious? His name is in the title card (what a title card it was!), after all. He’s got a brand new haircut for this one (as we’re sure you’ve noticed from the trailers). He fights the Hulk too (you saw that in the trailers too).

Everything you think Thor lacked as a character, Marvel made up for it with this one. It’s like the studio actually takes feedback from its audiences. Imagine how good movies would be if all studios started doing this? Also, and no this does not make me gay, grow up, it looks like Chris Hemsworth got even more ripped for this one. Yes, he gets to show off his perfectly chiselled body. It’s God-like!

Thor: Ragnarok – Loki

How do you give Loki a purpose? He can’t be strong; they’ve got the Hulk for that. He can’t be the hero, that’s Thor’s job. So, what does Marvel do? They get Tom Hiddleston to put on one of his best performances as the God of Mischief.

Yup, if you liked him in the Avengers, you’re going to love him here. Why? Everybody hates him. He’s just so good at being bad! That’s why!

Thor: Ragnarok – Hulk

This one was kind of obvious wasn’t it? Since Hulk is most probably never going to get a solo movie of his own in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (not for the foreseeable future at least) this is as close as we’re going to get.

The ‘Big Green Giant’ has considerable screen time in this movie and if you love laughing while Hulk destroys stuff in a truly comic way then there’s your reason to watch Ragnarok.

On to the 1 which was so important that it had to get a separate mention:

When it comes to big bad guys, Marvel has fallen short every single time. Barring Loki in the Avengers, Marvel has never really had a bad guy worthy of mentioning. Yes, the Vulture (Michael Keaton) did a great job, but he’s only human. In a Cinematic Universe with Gods, we can’t have a human in the list of top two memorable bad guys, right?

Since they can’t put Thanos in every single Marvel movie, they needed to solve this in some other way. They found the solution; get a woman to do the job! Yes, Hela is the one thing which helps separate this movie from every single other Marvel movie we’ve seen. She’s the first female supervillain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and boy does she put on a show.

While we could have thought of a few others who could have played this role, Cate Blanchett pulled it off spectacularly. You can’t tell she’s 48. Not for one second. She looks so young, so hot! More importantly, so evil! The God of Thunder needed a worthy opponent and he got one, the Goddess of Death!

The 5 reasons are smaller things and represent my personal opinion. You may not feel the same way. But hey, we’re allowed to disagree, right?

– This is perhaps the closest Marvel has gotten to comic book visuals in a movie. If you liked ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, you are going to love this one.

– The soundtrack. Yes, the music in the movie is absolutely amazing. Whoever it is who was involved in choosing the music for the movie, excellent job!

– The supporting cast. It gets hard to be noticed when you have Thor, Hulk and Loki on the same screen. But, we can remember a few of the other characters quite vividly too. They weren’t given too much importance. But, they were memorable!

– Heimdall finally gets to do more. Idris Elba was perhaps the most underutilized actor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we’re glad he finally gets to do more than just ‘See Everything.’

– Yes, Stan Lee makes another cameo in this movie. Well, at least he gets to do something way more integral to the plot this time around!

If you’re reading this we’re presuming you’re okay with us talking about some stuff from the movie which may not have been integral to the plot, but was really cool. We’re listing them out for you here:

– The Infinity Gauntlet in Odin’s vault? Is it fake or is it real? Marvel addresses the issue in this movie. It’s fake! Hela knocks it off its pedestal while calling it fake. Yeah, Marvel took just a couple of seconds to answer a question we’ve had ever since the first Thor movie.

– Matt Damon. Yes, Jason Bourne himself. Ever wondered what it would have been like if Matt Damon played Loki? You’ll know by the end of this movie. It’s hilarious! But, Tom Hiddleston, is still Loki for us!

– Korg. If you’ve seen the animated movie ‘Planet Hulk’, you’ll remember Korg. The Kronan has a decent chunk of screen time in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and we may just get to see him in Infinity War too. We do have a bad feeling that Marvel is introducing so many characters right now just so Thanos can kill them in Infinity War.

– Odin goes to Norway when in exile. Fitting, isn’t it? Where else would he go? Since Thor, Odin and Loki were picked up from Norse mythology by Marvel, why not take Odin back there?

– We all thought Surtur was going to be one of the main villains in the movie. While yes, he is extremely powerful once his crown is filled with ‘the Eternal Flame,’ we’re too focused on Hela to care about what Surtur does. In fact, we’re done with Surtur within the first few minutes and don’t get to see him again till right at the end.

– The Dr. Strange cameo. Yes, Benadryl Cabbagepatch is in this movie. He helps Thor and Loki out. It’s fun to watch. Yeah, this is just a point because we wanted to mention Bibblytids Pumpkinpatch by name!

As promised, let’s discuss the post-credit scenes now! This movie has 2 of them! The first has Thor and Loki chilling together on their way to Earth when they come across a huge spaceship. Who is it? Thanos of course. It’s like the post-credit scenes were invented just so he could have a story of his own! We don’t see him this time, though.

As for the second scene, it involves the Grandmaster. This is after the revolution. He’s being his usual comedic self. It has little significance from the point of view of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But well, at least it isn’t as bad as the ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’ one, right?

Before we end this, one last thing… It’s just an idea.

Let’s start sleeping for just 5 hours and then going to watch movies first thing in the morning. After this, instead of giving movies a star-rating we can give it a yawn rating. This is calculated on the basis of how many times you yawn during a movie. In this case, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ would get a 1 yawn rating. Yup, I did all of this and just yawned once during the movie. Right after the interval. It was kind of boring there but, not enough that I would start complaining.

Now, enjoy the trailer once more before you go watch the movie. We know you want to!
