At the event, Ali shared an anecdote about Indian cinema and talked about how he landed the plum role in ‘Victoria and Abdul’ and of course about the growing diversity in Hollywood.

Well, Judi wasn’t there at the event with him as she is already busy with her next film’s schedule. Ali, who loved working with the iconic actress, is rooting for Dench to win an Oscar for this film. She has been nominated six times for the Academy Awards and has bagged one for Shakespeare In Love in 1998 for the role of Best Supporting Actress.

Talking to Mumbai Mirror, before flying to the U.S. he said, “Films which are contenders for prestigious awards are invited and their cast offered a platform to talk about how they landed the role and made it their own. I will be speaking about diversity in Hollywood and how actors like me get a chance to grab the spotlight.”

Chiming in the matter of the current storm of sexual allegations making rounds in Hollywood, Ali added saying, “We have a big stake now and though Hollywood is in a mess right now with this Harvey Weinstein exposé and other skeletons coming out of the closet, cinema is evolving. There is major reshuffling happening everywhere and it’s important to respect everyone, starting with women.”
